Title: What do you see for the future of social media and its affect on mankind?
Post by: stackholio on October 20, 2017, 05:07:19 PM
This video got me thinking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzLtHqr1qjA

There are an insane amount of hurdles for humanity to jump over if we are to ever explore the visible universe. Elon Musk is doing his best, maybe not in the most ethical of ways, to get us there. We need a cultural and political shift in order to solve our immediate issues which seems to be happening at a steady pace. However, there seems to be significant issues with misinformation disseminating through social media channels further dividing us as people. How do you envision the evolution of social media in preventing misinformation, "fake news", etc. from continuing to divide and separate us into echo chambers?

I feel like this question is deep and philosophical and is better suited for the politics and society section however I will answer here yet. First off when there will be news there will always be fake news.

Fake news isnt a concept that is born because of social media but rather popularized because of social media. Traditional media outlets have also spread fake news you just never knew it or couldnt

fact check well enough to prove it. Now that the snake is out of the bag the real question is will people think critically for themselves? If we all do this and ask questions about the information we are

taking in daily we can fact check and corroborate these findings. It isnt up to the media outlets there job is to get likes, hits, reposts, or whatever. It is up to the common person to do their own work!

I personally feel that social media is killing our relationships that we have with one another. This coming generations divorce rate is going to be significantly higher than any other, because of the ease of communication/attention social media offers us.
