Title: Virus scanner for MAC Post by: elements on June 26, 2011, 11:47:57 PM Hi,
since we are all about security now, I wonder if you think it is necessary to install a anti virus scanner for Mac OSX and if so, which one you would recommend. Thanks! Title: Re: Virus scanner for MAC Post by: hamdi on June 26, 2011, 11:51:25 PM go for http://www.clamxav.com/

Oh, you mean my Mac! Those don't get viruses, silly. Didn't you hear? Title: Re: Virus scanner for MAC Post by: elements on June 27, 2011, 12:03:14 AM Yes I heard. But since we're in the Bitcoin forum and there are so many threats to our precious coins I thought asking wouldn't hurt.

When I bought my very first Intel macbook the only thing in the Apple store was the norton software but it didn't yet have a universal binary. McAfee had a mac antivirus software but they only sold it in packages of three.
I looked around and found a really good 3rd-party review for Intego. I've used them on my Macs for years. Title: Re: Virus scanner for MAC Post by: 1fyll on June 27, 2011, 07:42:29 AM Hello.
I have used Sophos Antivirus Home edition (it is free of use). Protecting from malware is absolutely relevant to bitcoin people. I'm always paranoid about a keylogger or something. Do we need a scanner on our macs?

You need Linux on your macs.Title: Re: Virus scanner for MAC Post by: activescott on January 24, 2014, 11:46:40 PM Thanks for the responses. Good to know that others see antivirus on mac as valuable. And yes, that we must run linux too - I just keep nix on separate box and in VMs.
If anyone has any objective comparisons of antivirus apps on mac, I'd love to hear those too. Title: Re: Virus scanner for MAC Post by: E.exchanger on March 20, 2014, 10:41:17 PM My best experience so far is with norton and i just love the second one i would suggest will be bitdefender !!!

Title: Re: Virus scanner for MAC Post by: escrow.ms on March 22, 2014, 09:29:34 AM Forgive me, but I thought Mac is virus-free? No it's not, main reason is Flash and java 0day exploits and malware authors are really advance now, they are making cross platform viruses. Title: Re: Virus scanner for MAC Post by: activescott on March 22, 2014, 10:26:41 PM Forgive me, but I thought Mac is virus-free? Mac is most certainly not virus free, but less frequently targeted than Windows so the likelihood of being hit by one is less.
