Title: Be a mod on CoinChat. 1 BTC a month.
Post by: 🏰 TradeFortress 🏰 on June 09, 2013, 04:22:11 PM
Moderators on CoinChat get 1 BTC a month.

How to be a moderator:
1. Have a high maturity level.
2. Be active and provoke thoughtful discussion.
3. Don't ask to be a moderator (this hurts your chances).

Visit coinchat. (http://coinchat.org/)

How long should it take? 1 hour per day? Less? More?

I still can't figure why you invest some much time and money in that project.

Not TF, but I assume there aren't so much any rates of how many hours you should be online per day, but you should just be active enough to effectively moderate in your timezone and you don't neccesarily have to chat and be active, I'd assume you'd just have to keep an eye out on the chat and moderate it, but I wouldn't do it just for the BTCs, you'll need to have some actual motivation, i.e liking the site, to moderate effectively.

Just my two cents, and again, I'm not TF but that's what I assume is needed/wanted.

So how exactly does CoinChat handle over $100 per month? Did they get so big that they get $100/month in ad money alone?

He believes in his website and is investing in it.  He doesn't need to make a profit immediately - he can have reserve funds allocated to the project.

The goal of the OP is to get people contributing lots of thoughtful, mature and not-about-being-a-mod content over at coinchat. So it would seem the main goal is to promote the site, not hire a mod.  :P

I'll try out.  I am mature (If I do say so myself.) I may not be that active when chatting, but I will keep an eye out. Besides, It is already a pinned tab on my browser. I can be on for at LEAST a hour on week days.

For the record: I am NOT asking, I am simply stating that I may be interested.  ;)

Send me a PM. (If I don't get one I may PM you)

Also, How many mods are you going to hire?

Email recovery is very difficult to do right. Compromising a email account should absolutely NOT mean you just compromised every account of the user. I've been working on advanced recovery wizards involving the information that only the person would reasonably be expected to know, along with request analysis (IP, useragent, OS, browser) down to even if a user uses the tab key, hits buttons with enter, etc.

This is not something that will be used for coinchat, a small web chatroom. If you can't do something right, it's better to not do it at all.

Well you just gave away all your security measures, so now I can circumvent them.

Feel free to, that's the info you could see from clicking on "View Source". And if you're trying to compromise someone else's account, you'll need to know what OS, browser they use, where they access it from, etc.

I think the idea can be good, but what would happen if you switch OS and use a new browser? Or, your computer breaks and you buy a new one, and that one would be another OS, and another browser, would you still be able to use the forgot password function?

Well if you get a new computer, change your punctuation/browsing habits, and forget your password all at the time, you can't reset your password.

Sounds like a prime target for behavior phishing. E.g. create a bitcoin faucet: multiple forms to fill, browser headers available, IP address, down speed, etc etc all available.

Though I guess you could then send them an email :D

A good practice. I consider moderator status to be a lot like political office: those who want it the most are usually the worst candidates for the job.

I've moderated and administrated forums before, so I know that people can get pretty pissed if they're constantly being asked by people if they can be mods.

Just some general tips if you want to be a mod on CoinChat (I speak from administration experience myself):

  • For God's sake, don't ask to be one. As an admin/mod of multiple forums, I can say that unless you've been told that people are allowed to make applications, you shouldn't be asking for mod. I'm pretty sure TradeFortress has this view too - if you ask for mod, you don't get it.
  • You don't just become a mod and then check in for 10 minutes daily, this is at ~2 hours at the minimum daily, or you're going to look like you're taking the piss.
  • If you see the 1 BTC a month and that's the only reason you want to moderate, then you shouldn't moderate. Ideally, you should actually *be liked* by most regulars of CoinChat.
  • That means you need a reputation.
  • Which means you need to chat quite a bit.

Edit: Going to keep an eye on this thread, not going to PM you of course.  ;)

Epicness of what happens on CoinChat in the average day:

Me and lordson decided to go tip-mad today, another reason why you should use coinchat  ;)

And of course, the almighty DiamondCardz vs the World battle. Where the mods try to fight me with their powers, while I try to fight them with...tipping.

(of course these periods don't last long, otherwise the whole chat would be submerged in a tip vs 0mute war xD)

And that is your average day, as well as all the other chatter. ;P

applying some logic here....as i am actually allowed there, unlike you...i see the user base growing :) where on earth do you find 15%?! since you guys left, people come and stick around now they feel more comfortable.

the bots belong to different users...if you weren't a dick, you could've made one for yourself.....yeah, that's a scam....yawn  ::)

"It's near the end of a contest".....and, what are you saying? so T runs off with shit loads of referrals.... omg killer deal man! have you seen the exchange rate on referrals?!...it's free to join and they give you btc.....yeah, that's a scam...yawn  ::) there was other referral incentives in place before this contest...he didn't run off then did he?

It's a shame your guys chat is so quiet you manage to get the time to post so much crap about CoinChat.
note its not done back to you?
It's not something we would a) want to or b) stoop to tbh

Time to get over it guys. Maybe find something else to do with your time? You just come off looking like total saddos tbh and you do realise it is to the whole community?
You are damaging any future endeavours you want to have because people will remember all this and won't want to work with people that do that. Just a thought.

Peace guys, well from us anyways :)
