Title: External temperature measuring
Post by: der_wasi on October 22, 2017, 09:00:40 AM
Hello,
I just got two Gekkoscience 2Pacs and have them successfully running with a raspi 3 and CGMiner. As I found out, the 2Pac has no internal temperature measuring.
Now I was wondering how you monitor the temperature continuously. I thought about an USB temperature probe that can be read out with a script in my raspi. Anyone here who did this successfully? Or someone who can give me a clue what USB temperature probe I can use? I thought about a probe with a head I can mount on the side of the heat sink so I get at least a reference temperature for doing some cooling and overclocking.
Alternatively I would use a probe that I can connect to the GPIOs. I would be thankful for a clue either which hardware is best to use.

I hope my English is good enough to understand what I want because Iīm from Germany.
Greetings, der_wasi.

Hallo,

I'm using a bunch of DS18B20  with a raspberry pi (connected through GPIO).
You can put them in serial up to 255 sensors.

Here are some schematics:

OK, first, thanks for the reply.
I saw that DS18B20 during my search. But how do you mount it to the heat sink? I saw PT100 probes with an eyelet (I hope thatīs translated correctly) with a diameter for M4 screws. That would be perfect because I could mount it under one of the heat sink screws. But I cantīt find a 1-wire probe with an eyelet.
From technical point the 1-wire probe would be perfect. But how do you connect them in series with one wire? You mean parallel, donīt you? So that all VDDs, all GNDs and all DQs are connected?

yes, the electrical connection is in parallel.

you can try some heat rezisting tape to glue it to the head sink.  (this is what i have used).

OK thanks. Iīll think about it and give feedback here.
