It is an ALT coin, a fork of the bitcoin chain happening sometime tonight. If you have your bitcoin private keys you will be able to claim BTG on a 1:1 basis after the fact.

Should I expect the bitcoin to go down? Thanks!

Definitely not much. Bitcoin Gold's community support is very poor, and it's trading volume and market cap are going to be extremely low, atleast for the time being. Thus, this should not affect BTC's value much, maybe it will go down a few 100$-250$ or so, but this is supposed to be very short term. Bitcoin Gold will only emerge as a pump-and-dump altcoin.

you just have to hold bitcoin for a while. because in some market exchanges can not exchange with bitcoin. chances are you will get a btg with the ratio of bitcoin you have.

No problem with your BTC! BTG is a new coin (split from BTC) at the time of splitting, if you have BTC, you also have the corresponding BTG. You should transfer the BTC to another wallet before you use the Private key to transfer BTG coin (this is only a safe option)

Bitcoin Gold is another Bitcoin's Hard Fork - a rival for Altcoins. It is packed tons of features that isn't present in Bitcoin so this promising new currency will be able to mine with lower specs of hardware, it is due Bitcoin's mining is currently big mining companies will be always been rewarded and also with other features that could be accessible by everyone and I think this how blockchain community should be.

Bitcoin gold is new cryptocurrency from bitcoin hardfork. This coin has different script with bitcoin and this coin can be mining with cheap GPU.

Bitcoin Gold is another fork of bitcoin. Some says it is another coin that replaces the Bitcoin Cash. But based on my undesrtanding, it is the reward you can get if you hold BTC or Bitfoin Cash. Whatever it is, it is new invention of coins that is trying to be popular now.

Bitcoin Gold is a new cryptocurrency after a hard fork is initiated form its original digital coin (Bitcoin). I am expecting a drop of bitcoin's market value after the hard fork and i guess it's the right time to invest on it too. I have also joined on an airdrop of BTG recently and hopefully i can received a token from that airdrop. Hopefully this BTG will be a good coin.

In short, bitcoin gold aims to achieve two goals:

First, bitcoin gold wants to change how mining works by making it so the most powerful mining machines (called ASICs) can no longer be used. Second, by attracting more people to this system over time, it hopes to free the bitcoin network from the large companies that offer these products, and it argues, command undue influence on the network.

The bitcoin gold cryptocurrency is set to be created in advance (prior to the code being open-sourced to the public). About 1 percent of the total cryptocurrency tokens mined before the blockchain goes public will be used to pay the bitcoin gold development team. Once this distribution is over, the team claims it will launch the cryptocurrency so that users can redeem their coins.

All in all, it's unclear if business and mining groups will ultimately support the project, and if they do, how much value the alternative blockchain could create.

Bitcoin Gold is a clone of the main Bitcoin blockchain that will result in a 1:1 split of your Bitcoin funds, so if you have 1 Bitcoin you will receive 1 Bitcoin Gold in the same. The goal of Bitcoin Gold is to make it possible for anyone with GPU graphics cards to mine Bitcoin Gold just using their home computer, which they believe will make mining more democratic. As long as you hold the private key for your BTC, you will be able to claim your Bitcoin Gold by exporting the private key and importing it into one of the supported Bitcoin Gold wallets listed on the official Bitcoin Gold Website.

Just another fork of Bitcoin trying to piggy back on it's popularity while not really bringing any benefits of it's own.

yes bittrex will be crediting each account which had BTC
with the new BTG but I dont know the time frame for this.

BTG is actually a "snapshot" of the bitcoin blockchain and
took effect when block 491407 was mined. The thing I like
about it is that it is trying to make it easier to mine for almost
anyone rather than the elite few who virtually control the
mining of Bitcoin.

Help, What is BTG? what should I do with my Bitcoin?
- Another bitcoin clone
- Mineable with GPU not with ASIC
- Premined by developers, one of the lead developer is trying hard to remain anonymous
- If you had bitcoin when snapshot of blockchain was taken around mid day today than you can get bitcoin gold for free, you just need to have private key of your bitcoin addres.
- They are offering nothing new so expect heavy dump in market.

Someone's made a cheap slightly different copy of Bitcoin to make themselves some money. You can ignore it, or you can claim it and them sell it to make a little bit of money.

Any clearer?

Bitcoin gold is an altcoin which is created after the hard fork of the master of all cryptocurrencies -bitcoin. You will receive as many Bitcoin gold as many Bitcoins you own in your wallet at the time of hard fork on October 25,2017.
It is just an altcoin created from Bitcoin but is a little different from its parent. It is based upon equihash algorithm which is ASIC resistant whereas Bitcoin is based upon SHA 256 algorithm.
For more info you can refer to https://bitcoingold.org/.

To my knowledge, Bitcoin Gold is a branch of Bitcoin, which is separated from the original Bitcoin blocks, or in other words, a product that was born after the hardfork took place, in the same way that Bitcoin Cash was born. Bitcoin Gold developers want to solve the mining problem by changing the proof-of-work algorithm and they have chosen hardfork to solve the problem. If you have Bitcoin in your wallet at the time before the hardfork occurs, you will receive the corresponding Bitcoin Gold number, so keep your Bitcoin very careful, especially your private key

Seem like OP don't really want to know about BTG. He just want to promote PAX ICO project. I seen the same topic he created in Bitcoin Disscussion :)). Maybe he thought that he can cheat people to invest in this project by this way :))

Bitcoin Gold is a community-activated hard fork of Bitcoin to make mining decentralized again.
The Bitcoin Gold project is being driven by some developers, miners, and their head Jack Liao, the CEO of the  Hong Kong-based mining equipment manufacturing company, LightningAsic.
Features of Bitcoin Gold (BTG)
BTG will be based on Equihash so it will be GPU minable.
BTG will have inbuilt replay protection because it is a direct fork of BTC.
BTG will have a variable difficulty that will change per block. (Good thing for GPU miners.)
And looks like BTG will have a pool of pre-mined coins for 16,000 blocks.
Apart from these, there will be no changes like block size adjustment.
And BTG will be following the suit of the original BTC core developers for the future betterment of their coin because they believe that’s the secure way.

Bitcoin Gold is a fork of the Bitcoin blockchain. Bitcoin Gold miners began creating blocks with a new proof-of-work algorithm, and this will cause a branching out of the Bitcoin blockchain. The original Bitcoin blockchain will continue on unaltered, but a new branch of the blockchain will split off from the original chain. The new branch is a distinct blockchain with the same transaction history as Bitcoin up until the fork, but then diverges from it. As a result of this process, a new cryptocurrency is born.

Bitcoin Gold is launching as a hard fork of Bitcoin. The goal of BTG is to become a better gold than Bitcoin. The chief way they have decided to do this is trying to solve miner centralization through a proof-of-work change. Changing proof-of-work is generally going to require a hard fork and BTG has decided to go that route. The proof-of-work that they’ve chosen is Equihash, a memory-hard algorithm that used by ZCash. The idea is to give mining back to the users who can start using CPUs and GPUs to mine. Bitcoin Gold will only affect you if you own Bitcoin when they pick the hard fork block. You will receive the exact amount of Bitcoin Gold as Bitcoin you hold at that block.

Bitcoin Gold decentralizes mining by adopting a PoW algorithm, Equihash, which cannot be run faster on the specialty equipment used for Bitcoin mining (ASIC miners.) This gives ordinary users a fair opportunity to mine with ubiquitous GPUs.

Yes, but still we must spread our investments. this is why 50% of my holdings are in altcoins, actually now I am 40% in PAX so if it goes where I think it will I ll be very happy man

Bitcoin Gold is a hard fork of the bitcoin protocol devised by Lightning ASIC which is a Hong Kong based mining firm led by Jack Liao, CEO. To combat the mining centralization problem, the BTG developers are implementing a different mining algorithm altogether that will be resistant to ASIC chips called Equihash. I think you just hold your bitcoin in a while

BitCoin mining is constantly improving and renewing itself. BTG is the one of them. firstly it must be thoroughly investigated and learned. new features have to be discovered. it will also take place in many exchange sites over time.
