Cloud is just a marketing concept. It's just a regular server.

Where a Global Corptocracy has access to your information.  You're a complete effing moron if you use Cloud.

Well, at least this time uncle Jobs didn't tell nothing new... It is just presenting the "Ubuntu One" service...  \o/

I made a SIMPLE solution, which hosts the Bitcoin data (~/.bitcoin) directory, within the Ubuntu One free cloud service... Ahh! 100% encrypted by the way...

 With no third party softwares.

 Take a look at this:

Wallet in the Cloud - Keeping your Bitcoins encrypted and saved into the Cloud!

What do you guys think about my solution?!

It is really easy to do by everybody... No complications.

And it can be easily changed, or used with a USB pendrive instead a Cloud environment... But always use a Live CD, even to mount your encrypted USB Pendrive.

Cheers!
Thiago

The do. BitCoins are stored in the cloud. Can you point to the computer that stores your account's BitCoin balance? (It's not your personal computer. Turn it off, your account still has the same balance. Blow it up, your account still has the same balance.)

Cut off access to it?  Your account still has the same balance.  Only someone else controls it.

bitcoin basically is a cloud service, in that it stores the block chain in distributed through the net.  Only thing not automatically distributed is your private keys.  Do you really need to ask why they don't?

Apparently some people do store their wallet on Dropbox and the like. I wouldn't recommend it ...

If I was going to store my wallet in that type of service I would probably use Wuala (http://www.wuala.com/referral/53MG7F6HN56G36K67PG6).   They are one of the few of these types of services that can't read your files and they seem to care more then most of these types of services about security, and you can even pay them with bitcoins.

The only real way of using the cloud would be to use P2P, just like the bitcoin system currently does. If it is on someone else his server it is just client - server with a new name. (even if it is stored on more then one server it is still just client - server)

To prevent difficulties like with mt Gox, it would be great if escrow could be build into the bitcoin system/protocol itself.
That way we would not have to store our bitcoins on some 3rd party server (which can always be hacked).
Instead we store them in the cloud in a way that they can only be released when both parties in a bit coin transaction agree to it.
(the only problem might be that one of the parties "burns" their bit coins by never releasing them.

Missing a letter? I don't think you'll be making much from that referral link...

Thanks, seems so, thanks also to  Maged for fixing it also.

Even fixed it does not get me any money, all it does it get me and whoever uses it  both some bonus storage space when it is used.

http://wuala.com/en/bitcoin (http://wuala.com/en/bitcoin) is the url to use to pay with bitcoins.
