absolutely. i've been watching newbies flock to download malware when altcoins launch for years now. it never ceases to amaze me. at the very least, one should do a basic amount of research: the bitcoin gold team has an official website (btcgpu.org) and twitter. start there. cryptocurrency user or not, nobody should be downloading anything straight off the google search results.

there's already been a pretty widely circulated scam also: twitter.com/btcgpu is an imposter, and he's been sending people to a web site where users input their private keys to claim their BTG. it's clearly a total scam. this space really is a scammer's paradise.

With the experience of Bitcoin Cash, most probably a lot of hackers try to steal Bitcoins and Bitcoin Gold. Any one should be very careful and don't trust to any wallet or instruction to get Bitcoin Gold.

In times like these, I wish we could input private keys and have exchanges sweep them, so we don't need to deal with any software. Of course, you would want to be very careful to make sure that the private key held only BTG when you used it on an exchange. Otherwise they might sweep your other currencies and not credit them.

I'm hoping that a reputable wallet provider like Blockchain.info or BTC.com or Jaxx supports BTG, so I don't have to deal with its Core wallet. I don't know or trust the developers, so I don't really want their software on my machine. I just want to dump the coins...

Surely they will come and going to take the advantage of bitcoin gold wallets since there are so many claimers that wants to get their free BTG. Just secure yourself, don't download something that you don't know and don't ever try to put your private keys into those wallets that are asking for it without further notice that wallet you'd downloaded is trusted and recommended by the community. Since up until now there's no update coming from bitcoin gold website itself on how to claim it.

Of a truth a lot of scaming activities are on going and many people are been scam every days. Wallet provide services are pumping up every day and we do hear story of how much people are lose on bitcoin related scaming activities. I just read a story just now on how a guy lose  0.11bitcoin due to fake wallet providers online. I will keep to what I know and that is using blockchain.info wallet and xapo if I most use online wallet. I lose money true ethereum wallet providers in April and I did not expect to make the same mistake again.

Some people are so innocent and they believe that will receive some BTG for free if they put their bitcoin adress and their private key in a malware site. I've seen at least 3 people losing bitcoin believing on those sites and even calling people to do the same thing. Maybe they are the owners of those sites and are trying to scam people. Just avoid them and make sure you have your coins in safety wallets or exchanges (some are exchanging bitcoin for btg at 1:1 ratio)

This is serious. Google Adwords must hire people with deep crypto knowledge before approving any ads related to crypto.

These scammers will do anything to hack your money. Fake domain names like replica of myetherwallet.com , fake ICO sites.. Must be banned by Google SEO team. Fake sites must also be banned from Google Adwords.

I knew that that were bound to be lots of fake wallets making their rounds, it doesn't surprise me it is an ease back for a scammer to make. Please be careful everyone and always transfer your bitcoin to a new wallet so that nothing can be stolen.

This same stuff happened with the BCH fork.  I wouldn't trust anyone with this until all the
dust has settled.  But this time I do have a small amount of bitcoin and should therefore
have some bitcoin gold....which is going to be worthless, mark my words.  But yeah, be
careful.

Really good advise here, and one more thing to add is be careful when you transfer your Bitcoin, Bitcoin gold, and Bitcoin cash ... I've been hanging around the exodus wallet slack channel, and everyday they get people who mixed up Bitcoin/Bitcoin Cash addresses.  Bitcoin Gold is just going to add one more address into the mix to confuse.  And be warned that many exchanges and services will not assist you in recovering the private key if you mix up addresses.

It's best to be cautious with forked coins while there can be price advantages to being first losing your main asset aka your Bitcoins for a smaller stake such as Bitcoin gold is not worth the risk. I agree when a fork happens act with prudence and caution before executing any trade or launching a new wallet to extract coins with.

Yes I've noticed all the fake ads/sites/wallets popping up for BTCGold. It would be easy to get fooled as newbie so well done for putting this warning out.
I've temporarily stored my Bitcoin in a burner wallet for this as I won't be giving out my main private key to anyone, legit or not..

Don't rush into getting your BitcoinGold if you had money on a private wallet. It is better to be safe than sorry, just wait out the initial craze. Its not worth losing your entire stack for a coin worth so little right now.

Thanks for the good advice - I guarantee the people that need to hear and actually comprehend your warning though won't see it in time and have already frantically signed up to the scams straight after the fork in the hopes of getting in on an early pump and dump. They'll only see this after they've lost BTC and whine about it then and want compensation/retribution. Shakes head.
Meanwhile - its a pity the honest crypto-community can't do something to band together and fight the cybercrooks. I'm still new so if there is already a crypto-hero group I don't know about it yet (Excluding the MARVtoken group - thats clearly just moneygrabbing off using the Marvel heros lol) - but considering it still feels like every individual has to learn how to fight the cybercrooks alone via your own research and protection layers it would be nice to have an unhackable/uninfectable - who am i kidding... nevermind - im just wishful thinking...

Yes! be careful or you might be a victim of it. You know popularity of bitcoin has a disadvantage of it because as more and more people knows about it, the news will be shared to bad people too and they will capitalize on bitcoin's popularity. I have encountered fake wallets before be careful! I think if you encountered a wallet that you want to join research on them first! Not only one search, read a lot of articles about this wallet! the creators of a fake wallet might create a fake article about it saying its legit so be careful also. I think the safest way of a wallet is reading its review on the apple store or google play store.

This, basically. I'm guessing these people that are rushing to get their Bitcoin Gold are doing so to be able to dump as soon as possible, anticipating a dip. I know I'd rush into it, too, since it could be worthless at any given moment, but come on. There won't be any scammers if there are no people to scam. I have no idea why people think it's a good idea to trust a service that's pretty much days old. The correct way to go about it is to wait until a reputable wallet pops up and supports it. Its value might already drop by then, but is risking all your Bitcoins really worth the few hundred dollars?

If you see ads about it anywhere, report it to the site in question as it's likely to be a scam. We should be taking an offensive against scammers.

Christmas season is now here. That's why the hackers are very active nowadays! They know that people have loys of money during this season because of their 13 month pay and Christmas bonus. Be extra careful and vigilant. Do not just click links and site. They strategy now is riding on the popularity of BTG. Transact only with trusted people and websites if you don't want to lose your precious coins.

71% drop since the fork. Who would want to wait? BTG is a dying coin, with no support. Everyone would try to sell it asap, but you are correct better safe than sorry waiting for a day or 2 until the craze is settled would be a good idea.

i guess many people wants to make money from the free coins right now because we are see this when bitcoin cash is release yesterday and i think we should learn from the past. and for the links that could be fake, we need to be careful when we click the links in search engine so we can avoid when something might be turn into bad things in future. but as long as we don't click any suspicious links then i think we are safe from the bad things. but once again, be careful when we visit into a website and its better to stay alert.

It seems to me that there is a sense a few years to keep the coin. Of course you can sell it immediately but I doubt that will give you coins, for a decent price. If this coin has no prospects, then the whales will buy up the coins while they are cheap. When they will know that you bought the most coins they can start the game on the rise. Then you will have the chance to earn really good money.

It was to be expected, because it happened with Bitcoin Cash too. This time around people should have learned their lesson,

but the developers from Bitcoin Gold is to be blamed for this too. They were not really prepared for this whole fork and people

complained about this before the fork. Who is testing these wallets and the code behind it?

It seems that when a new coin or when bitcoin is at hype,  hackers become more eager. It seems like that times like this motivates them to find a way or ways so that they can do their thing.

With the news of BTG fork,  this will be their opportunity to perform any attack therefore everyone must be careful and must not feel that complacent about the safety of their wallets.  We don't  know if one of the wallets that they will target  is one of hours.

Be careful at times like this and don't get attractivene easily with offers over the site.

No, I won't. I consider BTG to be a cash-grab, not a serious fork. It doesn't have any ideology or major economic players behind it. I'm not going to make a big announcement and guide anytime creates a pointless little fork like this (which anyone can do at any time with no cost whatsoever).

I will make a guide for B2X, which actually has some economic support.

Thanks admin for the heads up! I'm quiet wondering why this Bitcoin Gold doesn't even give a buzz just like on what happened on Bitcoin Cash and not being posted above regarding on how to claim it. Now, I do know the reason which is actually true. BTG is also fake with the issues connected to it, Still it is a "free money" from BTG, I should wait for the right wallet (the famous one of course and supported and suggested by the bitcointalk community). I will wait if someone successfully redeemed their Bitcoin Gold then that's the time i will trade my bitcoin gold to get "free money".
