Title: Can I Mine with a Laptop?
Post by: Shendy23 on October 25, 2017, 01:50:51 PM
Hi All, I'm just wondering if I could really use my laptop to mine bitcoin? My husband says my laptop did not reach the exact specs to mine a Bitcoin. That's why i didn't try it yet. However, my friend said they are using old laptop to mine bitcoin so I assume that his laptop should have older version of specs. Well, the below is the specs of my laptop. Can you please advise me? Thank you so much.

Processor : Intel (R) Pentium (R) CPU N3700 @ 1.600GHz (4 CPUs),~1.6GHz
Chip type: Intel (R) HD graphics
System Model : Inspiron 15 - 3552
Operating System : Windows 10 Home Single Language 64-bit (10.0, Build 15063)

Listen to your husband...  ;)  There's been no direct mining of Bitcoin with CPU or GPU for years now.  Only ASIC miners will mine bitcoin directly with any chance at ROI.  Check into Canaan, Ebit, BiteMe - uh I mean Bitmain, for current hardware.

Yeah.

Canaan Creative (AvalonMiner hardware): https://canaan.io/shop/
If you order small amount of miners, then you need to buy from the Canaan reseller.
The reseller is Minerwarez.com.

Ebang (Ebit hardware): http://miner.ebang.com.cn/

Bitmain (Antminer hardware): http://shop.bitmain.com/

Don't even bother mining with a laptop, buy a specific miner instead as per above.

Mining with laptops is probably the worst idea, you'll just end up burning up the laptop and breaking it.

I've purchased a few miner from deep in the mines, fast delivery, no issues what so ever.

Yes you can,

But... you most definitely should not, it will not yield anything worthwhile and you will ruin your laptop, so in all honestly if you hate your laptop enough to try this, you might as well throw it off the roof and run it over with a lawnmower. At least you will have fun destroying it.

Or you can use it to host your wallet or something productive like that.

Listen to HaggssFIN in regards to the hardware selections.

Unless you fancy buying a new laptop when it burns out then its not going to be a worthwhile exercise.

Your better off downloading core or something on your laptop and having a play with that or get yourself some GPU's and a motherboard and mine some altcoins but bitcoin is no longer viable to mine on CPU. It CAN be done but it would be a futile exercise and be a waste of your machine.

Look into miners like avalon or s9 miners if you're looking to get into mining they are the only real viable options for profit but you need to take into account a few things before going down the asic route.

1. Power cost!  You need to know what your electricity will cost before you start this is key to your ROI if your electricity is costing more than you can mine then it's not a good idea.

2. Heat... These suckers pump out a lot of heat and require good ventilation for optimal performance,  many people overlook this factor when buying and setting up.

3. Difficulty... The network is taking some rather epic jumps recently and there is much new hashrate coming online every day so you need to factor in the increase in this as this will affect your return.

Hope this helps.

You can use it to mine on nicehash.  Those specs should get you about 7 cents a day though.

Yes, you can mine with a laptop if you use the nicehash software. Possible but it's not profitable and dangerous to get a burned laptop.
Laptops are not constructed to work 24/7 and with 100% load.

I think yes as long as your laptop has the ability or the specs for mining bitcoins.

Yes. But I wouldn't even bother. The efficiency of your laptop is not enough to be highly profitable. Plus, you'll burn it in a few days, since in order to mine, you need to run it 100% capacity 24/7.

Make sure you have no sentimental attachements to your laptop

You cannot meaningfully mine bitcoin with a laptop. Try the altcoin sections.
