Title: Where did my BTC go?
Post by: limopc on October 28, 2017, 06:19:51 AM
A several hours ago I sent BTC from my Jaxx iOS wallet to my paper wallet. It didnt even get 1 confirmation
Checking later it gave me on the website that there is no such transaction
Its almost 30 hours now, rechecking it shows previous transfers to this address confirmed and not even
showing my latest transaction even unconfirmed.
So, I understand it should be confirmed or rejected and showing again on my Jaxx wallet

Where did my BTC go? How can I get it back?

Anything wrong with BTC blockchain network?
I’m worried its over with BTC though I dont wish so and wish it wil come out stronger.

If it didn't get any confirmations, then the coins are technically on your JAXX wallet. Can you post your address here so we can check if your latest transaction did get through on the network because If its on the block explorers, Then most probably the problem lies on your wallet. Their support are active on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/jaxx/

So the problem is with Jaxx wallet not the network?

Post your address here or check it yourself on any blockexplorers e.g. blocktrail as Your balance there as well as transactions should be proportional in your jaxx wallet.

If not yes most probably the problem lies in your side. You should try resetting your cache on your Menu --> Settings. Please note that you should have secured your backup phrase.

Let's see it if we can help you out, post your address here or your TXID so that we can verify if the coins are sent to another wallet or it is at your JAXX wallet.

Anything wrong with BTC blockchain network?
There's nothing wrong about the blockchain network, the normal network traffic is back that's why most of the transactions now are delayed and not confirmed immediately. And we can't figure it out unless you are going to post your TXID / address here.

if suppose your coins not get confirmation then your coins are in jaxx wallet. so problem is in your wallet of jaxx. so try once in this wallet next confirm. in blockchain nothing in to wrong. here most of the transactions delayed and confirmed immediately. if suppose you did not get it once check in your wallet.

Thanks guys,

I reset the Jaxx cache a few times. Now I see my BTC in my wallet.

Though, I don’t know yet why it didn’t get confirmed.

was it because of miners and this Segwit2x mess?

Any way, maybe this issue or case proves that blockchain technolology is 100% safe, you never lose your money.  In Fiat transaction, if you made a mistake, it’s up to the receiver to refund you the money, which is not the case with blockchain.

So, remains the question, why it didn’t get confirmation?

Since you checked the "website" and the transaction wasn't logged on the "website", (I'm guessing the website is some kind of block explorer. I don't use the Jaxx Wallet, so not 100% certan what website you are talking about.) I am guessing that your transaction was never relayed to the Bitcoin Network. This can be caused for a multitude of reasons. Either your phone carrier dropped the signal, your internet connectivity has an issue, or your Iphone had a software or hardware glitch. If your transaction did appear on the "website" but it is still  unconfirmed, than it is because your transaction has not been included in a block, yet. The bitcoin network has been congested today.
Furthermore, the blockchain technology is not 100% safe. If you end up sending your BTC to the wrong address, you most probably will never get your BTC back. The reason is because if you make this error, the chances are 99.99xxx..% likely that no one has the private key to the erroneous address. Therefore, no one can refund your money. Also, there is malware out there that changes the clipboard information, so you end up pasting the BTC address of the hacker, not the address that you copied. (Scanning A QR code may be a safer. I'm not aware of malware that can somehow cause trouble with that. But the hackers these days are getting so ingenious.) Always double check the BTC address before you hit send.

It depends on a certain transaction but most of the time transactions are stucked because of low miner fees as miners mostly prioritizes transactions with higher miner fee. Is it still unconfirmed? Can you post your TXID here and lets see what we can do.

Personally i think its pretty safe but just like what's explained above^^. Your safety depends on you the user itself so technically if you made a mistake theres a possibility that you might not get it back. The solution for this is being informed and having a wallet where you fully control.

Now that I have my BTC in Jaxx, would it be ok to move the balance to my paper wallet?
It is on defaults for mining fees...

Would it be declined again?

What if I selected the highest fees, how much would that be in usd?

Just hoping to safely claim and dump the BTG and the B2X

Any ideas, Can I still move BTC to my paper wallet? Or is it ok to just leave it in Jaxx wallet?

"How long is a piece of string?"

No one can answer your question except you... However I would say that "right now" is not a good time to be moving bitcoins as the network is REALLY busy... The fees are likely to be really high due to the large number of unconfirmed transactions :-\

https://blockchain.info/charts/mempool-count
https://btc.com/stats/unconfirmed-tx
https://bitcoinfees.21.co

Especially from a wallet like Jaxx that doesn't give you "true" custom fees

The number of unconfirmed transactions does seem to be dropping (still above 30K though)... So keep an eye on the mempool count and recommended fees and send when the network is less busy!

Thanks, you just confirmed what I was thinking of...

I hope the lightning network can come in soon...

It will save us a lot of hassles...

Anybody knows when expected?

Just to update you guys,

After resetting cache and the BTC appeared in my wallet, checking the wallet today I found the transaction confirmed and appeared in my paper wallet!

This was the longest time I’ve seen for a transaction.
