That would mean "holding" for the very long term.

Do you not mean "what is a cold wallet"?

It is just a method of storing your coins offline. Different wallets offer cold storage option depending on which you want to make use of. It could be paper wallet, hardware wallets or heavy desktop wallets.
However, one thing with all the cold storage method is that you have full control of your wallet as you have access to your private keys which is pretty much important.

Cold storage is when your coin is not connected to internet. It can also be called airgapped! Your private key has never been used and your coin is in a virtual machine or paper wallet and is completely offline.

Its one of the most secure methods to store you crypto currencies. Cold storage is mostly done in paper wallets. There are various videos that explain how you can create you own paper wallet at youtube!

Cold storage is a fully isolated from any network or even machine device where you keep your private keys.
