Title: Why is it that a lot of people don't understand what a 'troll' is?
Post by: acs26 on June 15, 2013, 06:04:45 AM
Just asking. All over this forum, if you have a different opinion, or hate a idea you're instantly labeled a troll by most people. I'm not saying all over like you see a thread like this everyday, but it's annoying when people do it. It just makes no sense.

Sometimes, I personally just want to strangle people who do it. I go on various forums, and on every forum there's somebody like this. (I can't blame it all on BitCointalk.) And when somebody tries to explain their definition of 'trolling' or being a 'troll' is false, but they still use a false definition.

If this same logic was used 'offline', everybody in the world would be a 'troll'.

Is there something I'm missing? Can you just label anybody a troll? Why do people do it? Am I just crazy, and imagining things?

If there's one thing the various ideologies you are lumping together have in common, its that we are all ANTI-groupthink...is why we're often correlated, we do not keep or want constituencies. Most of us don't give a fuck who belongs to what.

Don't bother explaining it to him.  It's always through one ear and out the other.

So funny how you guys didn't get it.

I will walk you through it.

1. A large group of people here think the same, and I named the qualities of that thinking. We now have a group.

2. A significant subset of that group labels others who don't hold those beliefs trolls.

3. That second group, the subset, is composed, obviously, of fuckheads, precisely because they like to ostracize those who don't hold their beliefs by calling them trolls.

4. If you're a member of that subset, then you're a fuckhead.

ive come to the conclusion everyone on this forum has a very linear opinion

they want to toss you aside if you aren't "professional, legitimate and run a real business". everyone here is obsessed with the idea that btc can replace dollars, and they think because they use it that they are somehow ahead and more intelligent then the rest of the world

secondly everyone here dismisses crime and bitcoin, most likely because they have never been on the darknet and are too christian for their mothers to even like.

that's great that people have made a lot of money with bitcoin but they are too cocky because they made some great investments and got lucky

thirdly the speculation section of this forum is a complete joke and deserves to be trolled to the highest extent possible

let there be light

Most people don't understand what a troll is' because we come in many shapes and colors. As suggested above, most people are probably in fact trolls in hiding, nothing to be ashamed of people.
Darn Tootin! Own it!

The second cap, ktttn, is 'coz men have a natural loathing for compound words.  It's a patriarchal thing, you won't understand...

Nope. Same definition. And Wikipedia has nailed the symptoms perfectly. See quoted paragraph below:

Quote
Loyalty to the group requires individuals to avoid raising controversial issues or alternative solutions, and there is loss of individual creativity, uniqueness and independent thinking. The dysfunctional group dynamics of the "ingroup" produces an "illusion of invulnerability" (an inflated certainty that the right decision has been made). Thus the "ingroup" significantly overrates their own abilities in decision-making, and significantly underrates the abilities of their opponents (the "outgroup").
