Title: Coinnnnn.com - Feedback please
Post by: gbks on November 02, 2017, 04:36:18 PM
Hello. I would like to get your thoughts on http://www.coinnnnn.com (http://www.coinnnnn.com), a side project I recently started. It is a watch list and price ticker for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. There are many similar sites, but I want to create something that is more playful and visual than what I’ve seen. I only started learning about Bitcoin 2 months ago and was super impressed with the community, both in what it has achieved and also the overall community feeling. So I hope my project contributes something useful as well. Showing is easier than telling, so here are a few screenshots for both desktop and mobile to show some of the pages and features:

http://www.coinnnnn.com/assets/temp/coinnnnn-desktop-171101.png

http://www.coinnnnn.com/assets/temp/coinnnnn-mobile-171101.png

So what you can do right now is catch up with prices (top 50 currencies only) and news. If you create an account (currently only via Google), you can pick the currencies you have and see all their price changes in one screen. I still think a lot of things are pretty rough and need more work. I'd like to especially focus more on making things easier to understand for people who are new to this topic, visualizing the data in interesting ways, and adding a few more community features (event, reviews, etc). But that's enough from me, now I'd be great to hear from you. Thanks in advance. Here's the link one more time: http://www.coinnnnn.com (http://www.coinnnnn.com)

The idea sounds good, I think that some more sites like this are indeed needed.
I don't like the domain name, imho sounds newbish. Even Coin5n or similar would be better. But this is me.
The news area was attempted here and there, but either abandoned, either not enough relevant news where I've checked. Something that I'd like to see would be RSS feed with the news. That would be something I'd surely use, but I don't know what would be your site's benefit. Maybe adding the tickers too to the RSS feed too?
However, it looks like a good project. Keep it up, good luck!

your web site looking good but domain name is not a good select. it sounds like a garbage site. i really like your visualization of showing prices of coins.

As you've mentioned, there are many similar sites available so I expected something different. When I visited the site, I find this (https://i.imgur.com/D8eYFjE.png) good, though when I scroll down I think you could improve it more (simple but eye-catching style maybe). IMO it would be better to put the Global market cap and trading volume above or below the watch list pane. News and Ticker Pane should be in the same size, just add a scroll bar to the News list so that the list won't be long. The numbers are on the right side of the currency, won't bother others, I just prefer to see it on the left to avoid confusion in the first look.

I saw that you're active in social media, that's great. Also, you have chrome extension, others that I've seen don't have.

It's very cool, overall the site looks pretty clean and contains all the information I need. I like having the ability to sign up and create my own personalized watchlist, gives another layer of engagement in a way (I'm not sure if this is a new concept or if competitors do this aswell). The only thing I don't really like is the big graph on the homepage. It's a little bit too big and the graph itself combined with a poorly chosen gradient look a bit off. But overall good stuff!

Agreed.  I had to squint to count the number of "n"s.  :/

I'm kinda bothered by how in the big chart widget the chart line covers up the price. While it's refreshing to see something more playful, that part of the layout doesn't look pleasing to me. I'd probably try switching price information and chart line, ie. having the chart line in the background, with the price information hovering on top. But that might be a matter of personal taste.

What I really like is the ticker widget. Having the hourly / daily / weekly price change on one page gives a way better picture than what you usually see. The reddit ticker is also an interesting metric.

All in all good work so far! Looking forward to see how you further develop this project!

And yeah... I'd also recommend reconsidering the name. It's kinda hard to remember when you can barely distinguish how many "n"s there are. Would be a shame if this site missed out on traffic due to its domain name.

Fresh information is always good.  IF this site will be live...  this is a good site after all.  If we can have live updates here, this site will be very useful to traders, investors and to all stakeholders of this cryptocurrency.

Thank your for that. Sounds like lots of people here dislike the domain name, I'll have to see if I can come up with something better.

News is definitely very tricky. As you also experienced, I was also a bit surprised how few good sources there are for crypto news. One idea could be to include the blogs of various projects, but then it might be too technical for the general audience. Alternatively, people could submit links they like, but there's no community yet to do that, and Reddit already does that well. I've also briefly looked into something like IBM Watson Discovery News (https://console.bluemix.net/docs/services/discovery/watson-discovery-news.html#watson-discovery-news (https://console.bluemix.net/docs/services/discovery/watson-discovery-news.html#watson-discovery-news)), which aggregates hundreds of thousands of news articles every day and organizes them by topic. We'll see, sometimes it takes a few experiments to find something that works. I'll definitely set up the RSS feed, thanks for the tip.

Haha, thanks for the honesty, I do appreciate it. Few others said the same, so looks like I'll have to come up with something new.

Thanks for your input. How do you use the global market cap and trading volume? I would imagine they help you get an idea of how much activity there is in the market, is that right?

I think the numbers on the right vs. left side of the currency is a difference in style in the US vs. Europe. I'll have to see if I can automatically show that based on your timezone maybe...

Thanks for the kind words. I do agree that the graph is a bit over the top when you use the site on a desktop or laptop. I was initially just planning to use it as a big dashboard to set up on a TV, in which case this works well. I'll have to see if I can find a middle ground, or just have it smaller by default and then have a "Big screen mode".

I have accessed your site through mobile phone and it seems pretty impressive, even though with the big graphs for the most famous cryptocurrencies. The most interesting part is; market (exchanges) to compare bitcoin price among those exchanges.
But honestly, I don't like to sign in into a site to create my own watchlist and how much I hold due to there is a bot on telegram which is more convenient for daily use.

Call me old-fashioned, but I liek it much better when there's a clear graph with everything on the X and Y axis defined.
I also just don't like the design of the graph you currently have, way too simplistic and bombastic for me.

Also, the design of all of the information under the graph is a bit too underwhelming, everything is just plain black, the text/title size and spacing seems a bit off to me.

It's a good start, but you really need to upgrade the overall look and feel.

It is nice site with some good info but maybe you should work more on design because like this is look very simple.I like News section, good to see news from different sources in one place, maybe you need add more sources(CoinDesk) if you have that possibility.Another interesting option would be to make a widget with price of desired coin and news,I think many site owners related to crypocurrency would like to have something like that-and you will get promotion of your site through widget.

Same observations and opinion on the site but its not really bad either but its too way simple and I don't really like too much the size either on the chart or on the size of the Text showing up the price.I do still appreciate the effort made by Op but there still lots of time to develop and make some changes to the site which would possibly make some popularity later on.  Goodluck

I think you nailed my most difficult challenge - finding the right amount of visual playfulness. The two areas are on the extremes sides of this right now. Thanks for your helpful feedback, definitely something I will keep working on (this is the fun part for me).

Thanks for the feedback. Can you please explain your comment about the site being simple? Is there specific information or a feature you would like to see?

From what I see you know fairly more than me on this subject, so I'll wait and see what will be the result.
If you get to implement that, feel free to even PM me about it, I'll surely subscribe.

I like it. It's simple and very well designed. Big plus for the night mode.

What I would change:
  - Have the global mcap and trade volume somewhere higher up, preferably as a single row above the big chart.
  - Talking about the big chart, I really like it, although I would make it a little smaller, and maybe add the possibility of user interaction, such as drag, zoom, or change the timeframe. Also, the price of the coin behind the chart is kinda weird, I would say it's more comfortable on the eyes if you place it in one corner of the chart, maybe the upper left corner.
  - Definitely change the url. It's horrible to type.

I will follow closely, looks like a nice project with a good start.
Good luck!

Looks promising, quite like the way you have done it, just not a big fan of the domain, as it is a bit difficult to remember how many "n"s there are in it.
