Title: Testnet Bitcoin Mining Pool - 0% FEE
Post by: crazy_rabbit on June 16, 2013, 02:21:47 PM
I've started a P2Pool testnet Bitcoin Mining Pool:

It's p2pool and I am currently not taking a fee.

To mine:

ADDRESS: 84.200.2.8:4000
Username: Your bitcoin *TESTNET* address
Password: Any password

Testnet is by definition worhtless.  Why would anyone want to mine on testnet?

Testnet gets reset from time to time.  So if I would mine on your pool, I would get worthless coins, that would be reset at some point, making them go away...

Seriously, testnet is for TESTING, not for anything else.

Also note that many people just give away testnet coins if you just ask :)

I have my reasons:

I happen to think we need a testnet economy to help move bitcoin towards accepting non-standard transactions on main net. I don't think it will happen if the testnet economy isn't more robust.

I'm afraid that I must disagree with you.  Testnet doesn't need to be worth anything in order to be used.  Also, experiments can be done in alt-chains or in merged mining chains.  If you want to use the "disabled" features, go ahaid and experiment on testnet.  Then make your case to get them standardized and accepted.
