Title: Imagine you have $50000 to build ETH mining farm, what HW you recommend?
Post by: marlyn on November 04, 2017, 10:01:08 PM
I have an investor who wants to build ethereum farm. He wants to spend $50000. What kind of graphics card from today's market would you recommend and why? I plan to use ASUS B250 MINING EXPERT motherboard which allows me to use 19 cards on simplemining OS.

Please advise. Thanks.

Probably lots of GTX 1070s, don't really know the current performance of GTX 1070 TI though.

I think it could be better to mine at full speed use  GTX 1080ti for better performance.
I was planning to build my own mining rig and i would like to try this GTX 1080 someone already told me is getting more profit with this GTX 1080ti so i think this is a great choice to start mining ethereum..

C.B250A-BTC PLUS V20 to avoid the cost of risers and frames, save space and mess.

buy $30000 btc $20000 ETH and enjoy your sleep.

mining only really makes money when speculation makes a lot more.

I would do what this guy is saying, and buy only eth cause it is very undervalued right now.

This^^ only maybe spread that 20k over the top ten alts.  30k on btc seems about right.  Hw you’ll lose your mind sleep and coin.  Ask any long time miner what would have been the better invest. Hw or the coin.  100% say coin if no they only lying to themselves

I wouldn't spend that amount of money on ETH mining farm at the moment , ETH will move to POS in the future , And cards that is good with ETH mining not same good with Zcash etc .. . However I think the most balanced card right now is 1070 . Maybe just spend only 10% max of this money on mining rigs and the rest you would be better spread between  some alts that are clearly undervalued . Putting money in BTC at the moment is so risky if you buy this high . There is alts that have pretty decent chance of getting nice pump after 16th ETH , Neo ..... the list is long  . The bottom line is with this money you have other options that might be better than mining , consider them  ;) .

I think, you can stick with AMD card to mining Ethereum. You can choose AMD RX Vega. It can produce approximately 70 MH/s. But one thing you must consider, mining with AMD card, sometimes you must regularly check the drivers update version.

lol = you won't even come close to hitting 70 mh/s currently.

and this ram

buy these mobos

Phil is testing that mobo

It can use 7 of these

and one of these

 Yeah  that is correct.

and you would be at

150-170 for the mobo
125        for the cpu
70          for the ram

3700 for 7x  1070 ti's
  750 for 1x 1080 mini

4815 for the rig  plus a psu

230 for a cheap psu I have yet to test

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Deep-In-The-Mines-2600w-ATX-Power-Supply-180v-240v-ETH-ZEC-mining-S7-S9-12-GPU/401396653730?

420 for a good psu I know works
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Corsair-AX1500i-Digital-ATX-Power-Supply-1500-Watt-Fully-Modular-PSU/332433673378?

so you are at 5045 or 5235

 it would do  4200 sols

but  there are cheaper set ups

the

mobo is 145 shipped to the usa if you buy 10

so

145 for mobo
125 for cpu
 70 for ram
360 for an evga 1600g2 psu
230 for cheap chinese psu

so 570 to 700  for mobo

1x zotac mini 1070
https://www.ebay.com/itm/ZOTAC-GeForce-GTX-1070-Mini-ZT-P10700G-10M-8GB-GDDR5/382237701193?

400

7x evga 1070 ti hybrid

3700

so 4800 usd with a  high end psu (evga 1600 g2)   gives you 3900 sols

you could try  amd vega 56's but they are tricky to setup.

Yes, but at the end of the day after let's say half year, you will end up with coins, and still can sell HW for 70% of price you bought it. :)

If mining weren't profitable, there wouldn't be miners. There are some drawbacks if you're not experienced, but if you really wanna be a miner you gotta like it and be patient. DYOR, of course. All these people pointing you towards investing rather mining are not wrong, because you seem new to the game and there's a high chance you could get burned. I'd say invest if you're not the least bit techy and enjoy this stuff.

Will a couple hundred thousands of old android phones be viable to setup as a mining farm? They are already being setup as clickers and bots.

It's probably not worth the effort for the hashrate you'd get. Phones have basically no cooling system, so it would be very difficult to constantly run them pegged 24/7 without running into problems.

Thanks for your answer. Are you sure about hashrate? I bought XFX Radeon RX Vega 64 8G HBM2 XT Air Cooled Black Edition 2 weeks ago, for testing purposes and today I returned it back to shop for 2 reasons:
- on Windows 7 64bit was hashing only 36MH/s average (max. 39 for short while).
- on simplemining OS it wasn't working at all :(

Yes. If you read https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2002025.0 you can figure it out. I believe best I've seen is 44 mh/s at 150 watts
