I am absolute beginner with bitcoins. I just found out about this currency a few weeks ago from newspaper. I did some research on my own and what I have found so far is that it is a currency that is "mined" with computers (where does it come from, who issues it, is there any gold/petroleum backing it?). I am confused by this whole mining process, a lot of sites I visited say you need to solve complex mathematical problems to earn or mine bitcoin. What is this "complex" mathematical problem? Is it something like SETI@Home? Do some research labs/universities offer incentive in form of coins?
All the guides that I have found so far are either very technical or plain vanilla that leave out a lot of questions. Is there any guide that is not too technical yet explains the technical stuff in plain English?

Bitcoin is to internet as $ is to US but has no physical form.Forget about all the math stuff coz you won't be doing that, what matters is it's real currency,  no backing,  decentralized (no one can ever control it or manipulate it's value so it all depends on supply or what the miners create and the demand, which is quite high coz it's used worlwide), it's peer to peer (no third party needed to send money anywhere, banks are useless now) and is instant (or not really at the click of a finger,  maybe a few minutes to an hour,  compared to clearing etc in banks).

Altcoin - alternative coin
Faucet - gives away free btc or other coins, initial purpose was to spread knowledge of btc
Wallet - your "bank account" for cryptocurrencies
Wallet address - your account number
Satoshi - 1) the creator of btc Satoshi Nakamoto, 2) cents of btc
                 

Everything else is in youtube, search topic for beginners so you won't get the technical stuff

You really just need to simply read. ALOT. Just like with any other skill, field, or subject you want to learn or get in to. Here's a great guide compilation that can get you started with the basics.

bitcoin.org is a good place to start with bitcoin questions.  Altcoins can be found in the subsection Altcoins in this forum, but it is basically any cryptocurrency other than bitcoin.  There are some great youtube videos and tedtalks about it as well. 

I'm newbie too. Just reading and trying some faucer first to know what it work.

This forum is a good start. Also have a look on youtube and use the right keywords, then you'll have thousands of hours of videos about Bitcoin, Litecoin, wallet, etc.

Just read trends about rules and regulation in this forum. Make some research about the topic that make you interesting.

maybe you should watch video tutorials or online docs about bitcoin, but first you need online wallet or bitcoin address just search on google where you can create online wallet with bitcoin features.

altcoins is other coins that is like bitcoin but different name. examples are ethereum, waves and many more altcoin.

faucet is using for capcha jobs.

wallets are use to store some bitcoins and altcoins.

satoshi is altcoins. this is the very cheap altcoins that can be get in faucet jobs.

Welcome on board, I would highly recommend reading as much as you can. There is a tremendous amount of valuable posts available on this forum and you can use the magical search box in upper right corner of any page. Do not invest your money first but spend as much as time to learn and understand the concepts. Bitcoin is nothing but just another form of money so it's not a rocket science and hence there is nothing difficult in it.

Mining Bitcoin is not really worth your time. There are huge factories that do mining and you need a ton of computing power to do it. Just simply get set up on a Crypto exchange network and start buying some. That's the easiest way.

It is never too late to invest in crypto, just look at how much the price of Bitcoin has risen for the past month

I also just learned to recognize this bitcoin. Almost every day I try to find information about bitcoin for the future can try to invest in bitcoin which is very interesting the price keep up.

I know what BTC is because I bought books to study.Then learn how to trade bitcoin via the Internet and friends.

Learn to educate yourself and try get as much information as you can get.
Keep the information, which seems legit and discard the rest.
... but i think the most important part is to just DO it.

I suggest you start by watching some youtubes videos on Bitcoin. You can also search on google what is bitcoin. It's very easy to use google. Personally, I also check Reddit Bitcoin and Twitter for the best and fastest news or drama on Bitcoin. If you see the price of the Bitcoin pump and you do not know why just go to Bitcoin reddit and you will have your answer. Bitcointalk is also one of the best Bitcoin forum.

I think it's a good idea because of that way could be much easier to learn stuff like that.

I will help you and explain these terms you asked about.

Altcoin is an alternative coin then Bitcoin itself. You can also buy it, mine it, trade it, etc.. All altcoins came later on then Bitcoin.

A facuet is a feature on say a gamble site or a faucet site itself on which you can get free money in that currency. You have faucets for BTC, LTC, Dogecoin, etc... They often have hourly limits to them. Watch out for scam faucet sites though. Be alert.

Just like in real life you need a wallet online to store your digital money. You can also buy a hardware wallet or offline wallet. There are wallets online that require you to download or simply make an acc on their site such as blockchain.info.

Satoshi's are 1 million't of a bitcoin. Say 1 bit of a bitcoin is 100 satoshi of that 1 bit.

Well you're already on this forum so that's a start. There's a great website with a lot of information about bitcoin called https://lopp.net/bitcoin.html It covers how Bitcoin works, where it comes from, talks about mining, trading, has a lot of video presentations, statistics and a lot more! The 2nd source I would suggest is Andreas M. Antonopoulos just put his name on YouTube and you'll find plenty of videos where he talks about Bitcoin and Blockchain. And always ask if there's something you don't understand.

Just start watching bitcoin for beginner videos in youtube for simple explanations.

I would say start with watching videos and then reading white papers.

It would be best if you start with video tutorial from youtube.
