2 I have encrypted the Client (wallet) on the laptop and backed it up on a few removable usb drives. 3 The encryption number is also saved. As I see it. 1 If my computer is lost or destroyed nobody will be able to steal the coins as they are encrypted. 2 I can simply get another computer. Install another Client (wallet). Import the (saved back up files) from the removable usb drives. This will restore my coins. No loss. Is this correct? Title: Re: Recovering Coins from a lost or destroyed computer. the only thing you need to do is changes the wallet.dat I change to an online wallet in blockchain.info because its faster than Bitcoin-QT. But it also depends on which wallet you have. They do not all work the same For instance with Electrum (electrum.org) which I use you don't even need to backup the wallet file, because the entire wallet (list of private keys) can be recovered from a 12-word phrase you remember, also known as a "deterministic seed".
