Title: GPU stops mining
Post by: necas on November 07, 2017, 09:28:51 AM

   I have a small rig with 3 Asus geforce 1080ti, Win 10 64 bit pro, Maximux7 mainboard.
I start mining and after a while one of my GPU's stops. As far as i know
i'm doing everything : 16 gb virtual memory, gen 2 ...
But i could't figure the problem. I have reinstalled the windows, reinstalled the driver but nothing..

Any advice please..or any link that explains solutions will be great..thank you

What overclocks are you using? What powerlimits? Share all details and we may be able to help you.

Is it the same card stopping? Maybe its hotter than the others and just throttles.
Also you have to say what is your power supply.

If you think its the overclock you can just run a stability test. Don't overclock them just mine on default values.
If its runs good without any problems, then its the overclock.

power suply FSP AURUM PRO 80PLUS GOLD 1200W
and i use power limit 85, temp 68, core clock 110, memory clock 220.
without msi burner it does the same thing, after some time GPU stops even some times all of them stop. every time the same GPU stops. i tried different pcie, but it stopped again.
the only way i found is to plug that GPU a monitor. this way it takes more time to stop, finally it stops again.

- try change risers
- try no overclocking
- try no undervolting

- if you unplug this card, are the others ok?

What system do you use?

I use win 10 pro 64 bit
I haven't changed risers yet but I will try,
without overclocking and undervolting nothing changed
if I unplug that card, the others ok..

Also it is better to keep everything in Gen1 rather than in Gen2. The best practice to follow when one GPU stops is to take that GPU out of the riser and also to remove the PCIEX16 GPU and put this one there, if it works it means it is a problem of the riser then.

ok. i will try gen 1 and with an other riser..thank you..

Not with another riser. First try only this GPU that stops working in the big PCIEX16 slot and see if the problem persists. If it does try this GPU in another motherboard and if the same thing happens , it must be a problem with your GPU then. If it does work on the big slot normally then surely it is a riser problem.

gpu stops after 5-6 hours if I use with a monitor..is it still possible that  there is a problem with the gpu..

Rarely it is. If you check it as a single GPU in the big PCIEX16 slot all of your doubts will clear. I know it takes time but I think it is worth to know if a 1080 ti GPU is working or has problems.

If you don't want to do that, you can just exchange the riser as a first option together with setting it to Gen1.

I haven't changed risers yet but I will try,

If nothing changes even if you change the card with another function card, it is time to claim the card to the manufacturer.

i have changed usb riser..it hasn't stopped yet.. :o :o
if stops, then I will try gen1..if stops again then I will burn it.. ;D ;D

Thank you all for your help..

it stopped again  >:( >:(...
İ have changed all risers and the psu. I bought corsair 1200w.. I have tried gen1 but didn't work.. one of the GPU's  stopped again.
Any idea?

Is it only in a specific GPU and after that all of your GPUs stop? Have you tried to remove the GPU that is stopping and test it again? Also have you tried it in another system maybe the motherboard. Still if you will not try all of the posibilites we cannot know that it is really the GPU that is the problem.

İt is  not the specific GPU. This time another one stops. I start pc, control GPUs, see three of them:OK, run afterburner
everything is fine. after a while sometimes one hour sometimes a couple hours one of the GPUs stops and
the others remain running.
i also updated the windows and drivers...

Check your Overclocking values...
also check your power supply connectors are ok (if some one is heated replace it).
may be your riser is faulty (first check if the same gpu is hanging every time).

i am going to look the BIOS again..Maybe I miss something..

Are you sure the GPU isn't temp throttling? If the temp goes beyond the set value, mining will fail.

It looks like bad GPU. But first look at your GPU temperature when the card is in mining mod. Maybe the problem is overheating. Or it can be the faulty GPU memory.

You tried to:
1. Change risers.
2. Change PSU.
3. Put GPU in PCI-e x16 slot.

Conclusion:
Install clean windows and put only that faulty GPU without raiser to another PCI-e slot that works.
If the card stops the same way then the card should be returned definitely.

Then try to change your ram, storage or motherboard as it is the as it is the only hardware that you did not troubleshoot. It can be quite a job yes but even the problem is the GPU stopping it can be other hardware really. Is there any indicator on your motherboard an may I just ask the full specs of your PC.

cpu g4400
ram 4gb
mainboard Asus maximus vııı
120 gb ssd
psu corsair 1200

I have unplugged all GPUs, uninstalled drivers with ddu.
After that plugged only one GPU that not working last time.
Installed driver 381.65.
after burner settings power:75, temp:65, core clock:125, memory clock:225
started mining with nicehash. it uses lyra2rev2 now, works perfect. it shows 3.80 dollars per day.
i will wait a few hours with one GPU and see what will happen.

Might be the motherboard. Did you check the code that the motherboard is giving? Specially for the motherboard that you have it has a code giving it it has an error. Also try changing the motherboard after you did your method.

Why do you set the temp at 65? Leave it at the default value.

So it's no problem with just one card, but it just stops working just one of them, and each time it's different? Did not you just change them when you changed the risers?

i do not want to wear out them. I want to use as much as possible.  ;D ;D

motherboard doesn't give any code, it works now properly..I didn't understand and didn't care..
this time ı just installed the driver when one card was plugged.
