Title: Have you ever invested in an ICO?
Post by: ematt on November 07, 2017, 03:50:31 PM
And do they have a future in general?

I think regulation can be good...right now just seems like there are so many (potential) scams.

yes i have bought into an ICO,
my first one was Electroneum which has great potential and there are a few threads about it in the altcoin section.
The current one in my signature INDAHASH has a very promising project also.
Here is the link to the announcement page https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2285136.0;topicseen
There are also a lot of scam ICO's still being found out.

I have invested in countless ICO. Some are good some are bad. Regulation could be a double edged sword. It could bring sanity in ICO space and at the same tme stifen creativity and growth, while denied the participant their freedom! Think carefully about regulation!

There are many scam Ico that is why we need to search over and over again in which has the potential coin. Regulation can be good in order to prevent scams ico project. And this is the best to stop people to create another Ico.

You must be careful when investing in ICOs. There are many scams around and several serious projects. I always recommend to do a bit of analyses. Better invest in projects with real existing project, where people have invested already before the ICO. Not just nicely designed white paper.

I have not been able to participate in an ico investment, because I do not have enough stock yet, but if there is stock, I want to try some investment on projects that I think can be profitable in the future, I will research by myself how a project will go forward, through the whitepaper, roadmap, and team managing the project.

Yeah, I invested in few ICO's from yobit but that didn't end up well so I am actually scared to buy tokens during ico.
From that time I have been joining only bounties if I believe project will become big.
Regulation is good but giving your personal information without knowing something is scam is big no no, ICO regulation has to be world wide and not only in few countries.

I think ico's have a future with the pace at which technology is changing. Personally I have invested in a few ico's because I can see that we live in an ever changing world and cryptocurrency is here to stay.

I've invested in a couple of ICO's, luckily it wasn't too much money,lol..even those projects that seem to sale millions of their tokens during their ICO , turned out to really suck when getting on the exchanges. Seems like the team that makes the most during their ICO doesn't put in anymore effort in promoting/upgrading their project when getting on the exchanges. Safer to buy the tokens when they just been listed on an exchange. My opinion.

Yes, I have been investing in ICO's but I only invested my time since I can only afford to lose it rather than losing money. They do have a future but not all of them in general. I have been investing my time in some bounties like Soferox and for now I am into Spectre.ai which is a unique and a one of a kind project with a working software that has potential to grow in the future. It is really hard to tell whether an ICO is a potential scam without doing intensive research about the idea of the project, the team and a working application. Investing money on ICO's kinda hurt our feelings, wallets and purses most especially if the one we are in turns out to be a scammy one.

Yes, I take part in many bounty campaigns, so analyzed projects, read white paper, look team and what is the main thought of the project, so after that I really found few projects in which invested. Of course, I invested just 100$ for each, but that is good for the start.

I think some of the ICOs are able to come up with Bitcoins in the future. Crypto is growing and mutually supportive. The rates of these coins are satisfactory and I think we will soon see a breakthrough.

TO be honest , there are several good projects in my mind but the system of bonuses at the start for big investors make them non profitable after the ico is done and the coins are dumped.

The only one project for me to invest as investor in long run would be GRID+, they are real they dont even mes around with the bounty and I ike that.

I have invested in a few ICOs, having made good gains initially but not doing so good recently. I think the market certainly become more sceptical to ICO now and be particular careful with those ICO that offer heavy discount during private sale as they can dump at a much lower price than a regular ICO contributor

In my opinion ICOs are a legit innovation in fundraising, I think it will be around in some type of format for a long time. With that being said the current application ICOs are still very immature and I think ICOs conducted a few years from now will look very different to the ones we are seeing now.

The last ICO that I have invested in was DIMCOIN ICO back in July. In my opinion, I think the coin has huge potential and the chances of making it in the near future, and might benefit investors who are willing to hold for long term. I love the idea behind the project and the fact its not just a coin but there is also an ecosystem involved, which might excelerate the value after some years, and the nice part is that I started making profit during the ICO phase.

Yes, i have invested in ICOs.

I've invested in Antshares(NEO now) as well as Datum which is still ongoing. Antshares obviously turned out to be a great investment, though i definitely sold way too early at just a fraction of the current price being traded at.

ICOs are only emerging now as a viable way of making investments. It'll continue to make an impact.

I have invested in ICOs and believe they make good investments. I am always looking for new interesting ICOs to invest in. Right now I am very interested to invest into Propthereum.io. They are an asset backed cryptocurrency on the blockchain and are expecting a 1566% coin appreciation. All proceeds raised will be used to purchase A-grade property worldwide. This will generate a rental income and underlying value for the PTC token holder. The great thing about this concept is that the coin will always increase in value.

I suggest that if you are going to buy or invest you must to deep study that particular coins for you not to regret later on. Put some enough time to analyse and see the benefits of that coin not only for investor but also for everyone or in communities. Goodluck and Happy trading.

They have a future but that depends on the hype on their product, if there will be mass potential to use their product and the ico just will become the time bomb. As you can see a lot of the ico that gives best platform.
The regulation will be filtering the professional person from the scammers. It's good imo.

regulation in cryptocurrency and ICO ? i do not think it will happen.
because it's a decentralized thing, and it's very hard to control it while we do not have an authorities behind it.

other than that i do not think they can do it

I've invested in ICO but it's just a small amount. But when it came to the exchanger I did not like its price because of the fall and too much of my investment value. So I did not repeat this and participated in campaigns. I have a bigger interest in campaigns than investing in their ICOs. I'm just one poor person and I'm trying to earn money to make payments on my daily expenses.

I did invest in Ethereum. Arguably the best ICO of all. Sadly, I did sell a bit early on and prior to its great bull run but thankfully went ahead with mining and holded some later on.

Later ICOs have in my opinion been based a bit too much on speculation rather than providing a minimum viable product from early on. Infrastructure in the crypto space is in my opinion worth investing in, but speculative ICOs are too risky and could potentially leave nothing behind if the ICO bubble pops. So I haven't invested in any later ICOs.

Kindly go through all the required details before investing in any ICO. Read all the whitepaper and if that is situated in your country and nearby do visit them and have a meeting and ask all the question before you invest in. If you are not satisfied do not invest just because other are investing in that project.

One day ICO's will be regulated by law, but for now, it reminds me Wild Wild West. I did invest in two ICO's: Monetha and BlackMoon Crypto, and few more once Tokens was released to exchanges.  It's very risky and in some cases better is wait until tokens start trading on exchanges and price goes down after few weeks. Only best ICO's brings rewards from day one, some after time and few are never profitable or became scam.

do that. Very often new coins trade at or below ICOs prices for some time before appreciating.

I always participate in ICOs with bounty, especially in signature and translation campaigns. I guess this is the only way to get tokens with no risks.
Anyway, I think you should always search for projects with interesting innovative ideas and support them despite the fact that there are a lot of scam ICOs out there. Just don't take things for granted, check everything and ask questions.

I've participated in programs for a few ICO's in the passed year, some have "seemed" promising others were simply scams and thankfully i pulled out before it was too late.

I would suggest looking into the NEW ICO called trade.io (https://trade.io/).
trade.io is an innovative new blockchain trading platform that will disrupt the financial ecosystem and democratize the markets.
They use peer-to-peer platforms to support the trading of a wide range of assets, and will be launching their own cryptocurrency, the Trade Token, which you can now acquire via PRE-ICO.
They currently have a bounty program available which has attracted many users in this community. Airdrop also available if you join the TradeToken telegram group!!!
Bounty Program here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2370663A
ANN Thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2367245.0

It has been the most solid ICO i've come across in the passed year! Be sure to check it out.

I haven't invested in any ICO. Investing in ICO is risky but if you research and find out a good ICO, you can be succeed in the specific ICO investment.
I do not see any reason to invest money in the ICO, because the price of tokens falls immediately as they go to the stock exchange, in general there is no sense, we need to wait until the situation on the market calms down

Hiii!!

I have invested in somes ICO but I havent had good experiences, I didnt lost money, but I have seen how the project's go out to the market with price lower than the ICO ... I know that by investing in the ICO, you invest in the project, but if we talk about profit... it is better to buy in the market when it comes out and hodl. Thats what I did with some new project and I bought at a lower price than ICO. Anyway, with some ICO you have to wait long time till the release in markets... Thats my experience.. Good Luck!

Regulation is good but giving your personal information without knowing something is scam is big no no, ICO regulation has to be world wide and not only in few countries.

Please let know if you come across good bounty programs where we can participate. SInce you are senior member you might have more experience in analyzing ico's and their project.

When you guys are planning to invest on ICO token sale. At first you have to read their white paper release and blog. You may get more information and can clearly understand the project relevancy to cryptos.

You're right, most of the ICO has the risk of financial fraud and illegal fund-raising, and it's fair to say that many ICO is a scam.
I was involved in ENJ's ICO, and as a result, you saw that the price of ENJ was very sad for me, but even worse was that I was involved in ENJ's ICO, which was a quarter of my total assets, and I was depressed.

Yes, you need to spend some time researching the project (team, $ hard cap, working product/prototype, partnership, token utility, etc...) and then you can be rewarded. No need to trust all the websites that offer you ICO reviews...

For example, I recently invested a small amount in Modum ICO (https://modum.io/): (solid swiss team, working product, big pharma partners, token that pays dividend, reasonable $ hard cap) the ICO wasn't even sold-out but now the token is worth almost 3x than the ICO value. I didn't sell any MOD yet  since I believe in the project long term

My only invest to this day is Electroneum

Electroneum is a project that had so much of a hype and that was even the reason I did not invest in it. They had too much of a promise they were busy giving investors which obviously is not a promise that would be easy to keep.

However, I am still waiting for how the mobile mining is pulling through right now. I will rather take my chances to see how such a coin will fair later on, than partaking in such ICOs. ICOs are great to invest, but you have to be careful so you do not end up with a shit one and which you can only do by doing your own thorough investigation on the project, team as well as the chances of the product really flying when being realistic.

yeah i invested in an ICO twice , and it was successfull , if you wanted too to invest in an ICO you must know first what is the worth of their tokens in the future . Read their whitepaper , and their roadmap, and if it is interest you a lot , you can invest as much as you want . But there are many ICO's that are good at start but in the end its a scam , so be carefull to chose the ICO you want to invest.

I'm fairly fresh to the crypto-world.

Invested in electroneum, enjin, and astronaut.

Enjin was oviously a bad investment, could be good longterm, but would've gotten it cheaper on exchange. Learnt a lesson from it, that is hopefully worth more than its loss :).

Electroneum is hurting these days. The pure hype behind it could probably drive it to be succesful.

Astronaut is my best ICO as of now, trading well above ICO-price on etherdelta. Long-term hold tough, and could go both ways.

Ongoing ICO's invested in: Indahash.

ICO's i'm considering: Wabi, Gloom.

Kinda pissed at myself that i didn't invest in Genesis Vision, wich was a project that i had followed closely from the start. But i thought it'd trade below ICOprice like enjin did, since it didn't sell out. Another lesson in the book for me.

I am researching and following permanently promising ICOs, checking the project, the technical background and commitment to the project. If there is a well established technical company wanting to enter and do business in the blockchain, it is interesting because they are going to implement the project as a serious business targeting the future profits from it. I holding alts like OMG, VTC, WTC, etc. I have invested in Electroneum, Swarm. I am monitoring now Gladius, Sether, Qchain, Utrust. We will see..

People tend to invest in ICO MLM projects because every day we have only one purchase and it is very difficult to own that tokens. I think now is a good time to invest in ICO MLM because this market is a new trend of ICO.
What the fuck are you mean about ico mlm? sounds very strange if you are talking about the Ponzi like bitconnect or regal. and that coins just filled with a lot of the millionaire that they can generate the newmoney everytime. Not all of icos were including on the Ponzi.

I have invested in just two ICO up till date and i make 50% plus interest on each ICO. I have read alot of stuffs on ICO on bitcointalk and i have discover that just few ICO usually last long without being dumped. so I do set target for myself ones i buy a token, I will wait until the token is listed on the exchanger site and continue to monitor the price per token. ones the price reach my target, I will sell it off. this is what I did for the two ICO i invested in. i dont wait until 1 token is sold for 10 USD. i set a target and go by it

You shouldn't judge all ICO's having one unfortunate investment. Though I started working with cryptocurrencies only in August I already invested in 6 ICOs and 4 of them (PRX, MTH, VIB, PPP) allowed me to increase my assets. I managed to sell them at x2-x3 price and then bouht again when they fell below ICO price. And I'm gonna hold them, because I believe in these projects.

Yes, I've invested.....even running our own NON-SCAM :-) ICO in 2 week at valhallacoin.com

But seriously, when doing due diligence:

Start with the team.

Are each of them on LinkedIn?
Do they list their affiliation with the company there (at least 75% of them should)
Have they worked for credible companies that you have heard of, and respect, in senior positions?
Now this is a BIG ONE: Do they have 500 or more connections?
Is there any one of them that REALLY stands out as SUPER-AWESOME (Advisor/Founder/Vitalik himself?)?? Great....Is it listed on that persons' linkedin? If not, PING the person on LinkedIn and ask them is their affiliation is real.

If the team is ex-Soviet.......red flag (bad pun I know). If there's no extradition treaties.....more likely to be a scam.....sad but the statistics bear it out.

The read the whitepaper......but due diligence on the team is maybe 10 mins and anyone can do it.....Whitepapers are sometimes too complex for many readers.

ICO is one of a way to make money or to grow money. with small investment you can earn high rewards from the increase of token price in the market. In fact, now ICOs price lower when released in the market. many ICO price drops in the market. I bought scl but the market of scl is under ICO price. recently I postpone to invest in ICO. I am looking for the best and promising ICO only.

It is good to invest in ICOs and buy their token for a half of price from their pre-sale because when the ICO is success then it can make your investment double or even more, I have also investment in some ICOs but I have to make sure first if they were hit the market cap before to invest and it is sure profit.

Yes i have invested in ico some months ago, i invested in taas and aragon. I choose taas because i like the dividend as passive income and i still have it now, already get my investment back usd wise with the dividend. I choose aragon because i like the business model. I don't invest ico now because i can't find the right one and i don't like the fact that they want to collect lots of money ay the beginning because the market can't support that kind of marketcap so early.

I invested in some ICOs that in my opinion have good business model for this type of fundraising, for example subscription commerce when token can be used to pay for the product of the company. In this situation token has potential to be liquid and profitable. But also don't forget about reliability of the project it is also very important, today there are so many scams creating ICO. :'(

If we can choose the right ICO then this will be very profitable. but like what you say there are so many ICOs doing fraud, so this is a very risky thing for me. if we are not good at analyzing then we could lose all the investment we have. this is the reason why some time ago the government was concerned about the development of ICO. maybe I also had time to realize that this decision is behind all this.

This is not new in ICO tokens, expect that while the ICO is running there are many hypes and burst social media advertising and so as investors we think that this token is promising and the worst we buy again because we want a lot of profit afterwards. But the reality hits us when the token is listed in exchange and we got nothing but disappointed. Yeah before I'm a fan of ICO but now I stay away as long as I could.

Yes, a successful altcoin must have a well-established development team and a community-backed community culture, both indispensable. At the ICO, you should do both, too. Unfortunately, most ALTCOIN just posted an attractive PPT and a very rudimentary white paper when ICO finances it, and then nothing.

Hello from a person who has never invested in an ICO. I read up with much interest, and I will say that all of the news has increased my appetite to participate in an ICO for the first time. Yet, at the same time, all the bad news is holding me back. It would seem, in this case, regulation such as what looks like will happen in China, is the only way to help people like me so we do not get burned by our first experience.

I read yesterday how Confido disappeared. That is very frightening to me.

I never invest in ICO because every time ICO coins are listed in the market the price is usually below ICO price. Although they give the coin/token under ICO but when it has been listed on the exchange it will be under it again. I think many ICO projects have experienced it so I was afraid to invest in ICO projects.

Title: Re: Have you ever invested in an ICO?

it might be a scam and it might be legit, that's up to you to evaluate and decide, everyone has to do their own due diligence, which means that they should make sure the things the projects are saying they will do, that they are both feasible and that they make sense. There are so many projects that promise things that are impossible to implement and investors wonder after why they are losing the money when everyone dumps the coin. This short term mentality is really bad, people should get involved in a project at least one month before deciding to invest or buy into it. Read the whitepaper and try to understand whether what is written there is possible and if the team is able to implement the idea in the first place.

1.Powerledger

3.Horizon
4.Cobinhood
5.Genesis Vision
The most promising one right now is Fundcru

by the PowerLedger way not badly shot during the last days, and still going upstairs, x3, bought a little over 6000, but I did not hear about the other ICO. Search ICOs on icorating.com and icobench.com. They may help you find ICOs with good ratings and projects. Those are a candidate of being successful.

I only invested in one ico so far and that is ong.social. Who knows if that was the best choice but I just liked the work they already did and how active they are in the community. I will hold the coins longterm. Normally I do not invest in icos because like mentioned from others many times, most of the time price drops hard at the beginning so often there is a good chance to
buy cheap. Another advantage of not investing in ico is that you are not putting your money at risk before there is even a tradable coin released on an exchange.

So far I haven't joined or invested in any ICO. The closest thing to participating in an ICO I did was to join some ICO's signature campaign back then. I am not sure if it can actually be considered as some sort of investing but that's the best I had, also the thing is I also got paid in BTC and not the coin they were developing. I guess maybe in the future I will look at ICOs, maybe if I find some really good projects.

My friend suggested this to me but im not ready to invest im gaining more money to do this. I read about their whitepaper and backgrounds of their teams. It is solid. Try to visit their page.

So they will soon have a sale, I will definitely participate, all who remember their history and how they transferred the sale understand this. I think that this is one of the best projects, not counting INS ECOSYSTEM. I participate in the company's bounty in selling tokens, try to buy more and get them, because the project is really good. But this is only my opinion.

Well, it's certainly true that you wrote, but now again there is a great interest in ICO and you can make good money, of course it's better to go into the project at the pre-sale stage, but if there is no such possibility, then it is possible and in the main sale, I personally have a point a couple of good projects, I can share.
