Title: ETH/altcoin beginner
Post by: Paranuatu on November 07, 2017, 04:50:28 PM
Hello

I am thinking of starting my first ether purchase.
I would pelase ask for simple instructions on how to go about this the simplest way. If there is another thread about this, please let me know and post a link! And then admin delete the thread please.
What are the steps in simple terms? Do I first set up a wallet? Then go on an exchange site where I buy them? How do I transfer them? Store them?

Thank you very much!

A lot of people start with Coinbase. Its expensive, but a really simple process to purchase funds. It also has its own wallet (some people do not trust exchange wallets), however I prefer myetherwallet for storing my Eth

The best thing to do is to buy bitcoin, put on the stock exchange, buy an ether there and then send it away on Myetherwallet

Coinbase is the best place to buy. Myetherwallet.com is the best wallet to store.

As i seeing that, a huge number of people in the world using coinbase and block chain now. And they are holding bitcoin in their coinbase and block chain wallet very smoothly and gets profit. For the time being I will recommend everyone that you should use ETH/altcoin. Because as we seeing that bitcoin is increasing terribly. With bitcoin the altcoin will increase in the future. So beginner should use ETH if they want to get profit from here.

You need a credit card. Purchases are instant. Fees are a bit high though.

For paypal I do not know because coincidentally I do not use coinbase, but as far as I know paypal prohibits transactions related to cryptocurrency (CMIIW).
But if you have credit card you can try buy it in Cex.io or bitfinex. For details you can read here

Good luck!

You either use a credit card or link your bank account with coinbase. Alternatively, you can buy ETH from sellers in marketplace of this forum. Some of them accept PayPal but the fees will be high due to higher risks of accepting PayPal.

Myetherwallet is one good and free wallet. But remember to secure your private key and beware of phishing websites.

Like many have mentioned, start with coinbase. It is easy to get started and works well. Then you can transition to GDAX, but you need to prepare because it can take 7 days to get funds before you can use them.
