Title: Some questions about block erupter usb Post by: NR3000 on June 18, 2013, 08:39:43 PM 1. It is possible check temperature using cgminer or any software? And if yes, how? Ar I need external thermometer?
2. What heatsink you recommend? And how to fitted it? 3. What cooler you recommend? Most important question is number 1. Thank You very much! Title: Re: Some questions about block erupter usb Post by: tempestb on June 18, 2013, 09:27:11 PM It has a flat heatsink connected to it already. Some people have fans that blow on theirs. I don't, and they work fine. They DO get really hot, but it doesn't impact their function. I imagine Asicminer would have put a better heatsink on them if they thought they would just burn out if people didn't put fans on them.
I've been running them for a couple weeks or more now, 24 hours a day without any issues. But getting a small fan to blow air on them isn't a bad idea. It's all you really need. Title: Re: Some questions about block erupter usb Post by: Photon939 on June 18, 2013, 09:54:40 PM Block Erupter USBs do not have a temperature sensor, but I would recommend active cooling to keep the chips happy. The stock aluminum plate is enough if you have airflow going over it to keep it relatively cool.

GPUs can run at 95C all day long too, doesn't mean it's a good idea :-\ Title: Re: Some questions about block erupter usb Post by: PeZ on June 19, 2013, 12:29:19 AM If you point an Arctic breeze mobile USB fan at it, it will reduce your hardware error rate slightly and perhaps increase its lifespan.
Title: Re: Some questions about block erupter usb Post by: LogicalUnit on June 19, 2013, 08:07:12 AM I had stability issues when running USB eruptors without a fan: hashrate in cgminer started to drop after a few days. The arctic breeze usb fan is perfect for cooling the block eruptors, and it does lower HW error rate by about 0.2%

I blow air to usb block erupter with a 14 cm fan. It is enough to cool the usb miner to about 40 degrees centigrade. |
