Title: Trading or ICO
Post by: jsteFF on November 08, 2017, 07:20:52 PM
Hi, everyone. I got about $5000 to invest in crypto. Which one is more secure and profitable: trade crypto (yes, I'm a newbie) or invest in ICO?
I've made my own research and investing in several ICO's seems more attractive for me, but want to know your opinions ;)

trading can be very profitable if you have specific knowledge and experience. My advice would be to start trading with a small amount of money as you are a newbie and other parts of your savings invest in many many different ICOs (diversification). When you will get necessary experience in trading you will increase your investments ;)

Dont invest all your money in just one way. Try diversifying your investments, it will minimize the risks, there is always a risk involved either with investing in ICOs or with trading BTC and altcoins.
Also there is so many fake ICOs and scam projects, make your careful research before investing.

If the 5000$ is all the money for your investments then you should make portfolio of coins that you are really trust. They should have strong fundamentals behind it and good expectation in their roadmap. Don't invest more than 1-5% of your money in 1 ICO it is very very risky. Also these days many good ICOs trading cheaper then ICO price. You can pick some of the good ICO that listed already and dumped the prices.

Most ICOs are just shit and scam. They don't even have a working prototype. They take your money during ICO and never comes back. So you better avoid those ICO.
You can try trading, but learn about the market first. Get to now how everything works and how the market is affected. Try trading small amounts first. Once you get enough experience, you can try investing on larger amount.

If you're a newbie, you probably not very keen on trading, so please stay away from trading, at least for only this time. You can start by reading the forum and checking bitcoin price analysis on the internet.

Never invest in altcoins these days becasue their trend is downwards.

Both are with their risks and both require knowledge, I think in the current climate trading is better, many ICOs are struggling right now so it is really hard to pick a winner

Putting those funds on ico's is going to give you a nice surprise if that ico is succesfull and only if they dont run out with your funds, but this kind of situation is only happening on 1 of 10 cases, so dont be dumb and dont invest that money on icos, it is very risky because you dont even know if you are going to get your coins back, not even your investment back.
So use that money to do your own trading, that is the best desicion that you can make right now.

It all depends on what coin you would trade or invest. Some ICO's fail and some become a scam, but when the ICO you pick end up successfully and the coin/token was listed on good exchanges, it's a win win. While in trading, you should know how it works first or else you'll lose as well, advantage is you could always try with a small amount to start with. Always pick more than one coin/token or ICO that you think is good and you could do both by diversifying your money. Who knows, it might turn out well :)

For now trade is better, if following ico is more profitable but for now most ico scam. So you have to choose which ico look will grow and a lot of followers if ico did not experience or failed chances ico will not pay you.

Unless the ico has discount, buy it. If not.  Its a total waste of time and money.  Some ico coins posted a year ago are still below at their ico price.  Just take a look at Chronobank time now still under 1/3 of its ico price.

That's a huge amount of money for me but my suggestion is here, diversify it into different asset. Go buy bitcoin for about $3k and then hold for good, the rest $1k trade with atlcoins and if you really want to invest on good ICO then put the last $1k. But make sure you are ready for what ever may happen.

I think trading will still the best way to earn, at least when you make mistakes your money wont totally gone, investing in ICO need a lot time to do the research and there are so many scam, so I believe trading is safer, but in trading you need  to be more active and you are going to read a lot of things before you can get the skill

Yeah diversify your asset for you to lessen the risk. This is a good idea for your asset allocation. Well if you are just new in this kind of market I suggest that you put some money on your knowledge for you to learn all the basic thing about trading and also investing so you will make good money in return. Just be more careful on joing ICO because not ICO are succeed on their project.

Diversifying is always the best way. You should split your money and make a few of both, ICOs need supporters of course otherwise they never turn into value tokens, but also you need to do your due diligence about the product they are trying to fund. Also if you want your money to short-term investment ICOs not usually the way unless they have exchanges set to be listed or sometimes they already have some tokens in the market or the Pré ICO already successful or something of the sort. For some coins, you better of buying them when the hit exchange, so diversify is the best way. I might give a few examples of what I am saying here.

Both. Half trading and half ico. In ico split again into minimum 5 project  and trading also into minimum 5 coins.

if you want to trading, you need to learn basic of trading by reading some info in many source and watching video in youtube or other sites. you need to have a skills so you can make profit in trading and you need time to know how to trade with good. but if you want to invest your money in ico, then you need to know the details for every ico and you should select only the ico that you think it will gets success for a long time but this is difficult to choose the ico. my suggestion is you can divide your money to trading and ico at the same times so you can work with both and gain a profit in future but yes you still need to learn both trading and reading the ico.

All those who prefer joining icos instead of trading are crazy, there is no way that you can make more profit if you join an ico, because you are probably going to get scammed in there. Nowadays all the icos are being scam, there is no chance that you can recover your money if the ico fails raising the funds, or if they have some kind of issues. So it is better to avoid those kind of scenarios, and better to buy some guides and start doing your own trading in order to make your own profit, dont be lazy man, you can make much more profit than before right now.

Lots of people ask like you. Better to trade Crypto because the coins that have been on the list by Exchanger more promising than the coins are still ICO. But for the opportunity price increases more ICO coins because ICO is cheaper. However, Trading is more certain than ICO Coins. It's all up to you.

I would wait on ICO's, especially the ones that have high bounty payments.  When the coin is released in the market, those usually go below ICO price, where you can snag up a few coins before they go up in price again.  You can also trade cyrpto's in the exchange but you have to be patient.  If you purchased at a high price, don't sell low.  Wait until that price goes past your purchase price to make money.

Now a days ICO is also consider as best way to earn money. You can even start trading with ICO.
In ICO we require less money investment as compare to other crypto l.

Depends really on your experience. For instance I prefer to analyze and invest in ICOs because I know fundamentals and I think I can spot good projects. I am very selective. But I am no trader, because it is a full time job and I don't have the knowledge, discipline and time to do it. But you might.

Since you are new in this community, i suggest you invest in ico and while you are at it, spend some time in learning the basics of trading and hone some trading skills. Moving on, before you dive into an ico, you do some research about the ico that you are planning to invest in and know its projects and people. Knowing the project, the people, and some other information about the ico is paramount when you invest in it.

Talking on joining on ICO it would really be profitable if you did hit the right project but if not then you are doomed which causes for you to lose up money and going back in the past on where ICO investments are really worth because there are only a few who do launch into those previous years unlike as of now where the market is already saturated or flooded with ICO which would really cause to increase the risk of losing your investment.Better to go with trading and just start up on small fund rather than on going all in with that bankroll.

Yeah trading is more reliable than joining ICO, i don't want to risk my money that I don't have any control instead I will trade my money so if I loose at least I'm the one who made it. Investing is much ok than joining ICO. But some ICO are worth investing for, be more careful.

You will lose your 5K trying to trade crypto, don't bother. You are better off investing in a top 10 or 20 coin and just simply wait. ICO's are not for novices either, lol. It's even harder than trading. Maybe do 1K on a big ICO, but you will need to dig hard to uncover the next big ICO.

please don't take big risk by start trading if you don't have any knowledge of enough provision to do trading. i am afraid that you will lose some part of your money (5000 USD) gratuitously in trading. you are better to join trusted and professional ICO to gain your money.

In my opinion trading is the best option compared to ICO because it is very difficult to detect a potential ICO and due to scam ICOs there are less investors for the ICO on the other hand trading is a bit risky but if you have good market research and experience then no need to invest in ICO, do trading.

First it is better to get some experience in trading if you wish to trade.
Fundamental Analysis and technical analysis will be useful.

If you want to invest find the best projects by researching.
Specially focus on projects that have a product and real world use case.
Then consider the team run a background check using LinkedIn,Twitter ETC.
There are many scams.

Invest 75% or 50%
Then earn more by trading.
Invest the profits you get in new good projects or pre researched ones.

As you spend more time in the forum, you can read diverse opinions on the subject that, it will be of great help as prelude to delve into it (Of course, also reading and informing you hard on your part) while, you investing in an ICO that is of great potential.

5000$ is a big money. Trading is ok if you know the things perfectly. Market conditions and all.otherwise best and smart thing is ico investment. In back you can double your earnings.

But you have to research ico and invest. Wabi, mercuryprotocol and eventchain , ins eco.

And also invest ongoing projects a portion.

Ethererum blue, walton coin,

Best of luck

What is the best way to figure out if the ICO is scam?

For example I want to invest in Covesting but didn't find them on http://icorating.com
On the other hand, I see that they have strong team and they were reviewed by trusted websites. Could it be scam?

I also checked Indahash they have low risk score in accordance to ico rating. I like the concept and they are already doing business and have revenue.
I think that the best way is to diversify - invest into several ICOs.

in last days many ICOs are giving returns and probably some coins ass well so who knows is easier make 2x on popular KYC ICO than trading in kryto environment.
But coins that will give you nice return on money is that much if you will look after them.

Your capital is quite high if its 5k. I would put some of that money Bitcoin and watch it pump slowly until you find the right time to sell and gain profit from it. Or invest in a promising ICO that you feel you can trust!

I still prefer on trading than investing on some ICOs due to some ICO that are fraudulent which is risky to get out your money and to invest, and you will not easily know that the ICO are legit, because it looks legit but after the crowdsale the developer abandon the project leaving without putting it on some decent exchanges.

define a ratio of long term and short term, it can be %50 to %50. You can enter mining, ICO or other long-term coins with that, and %50 with short-term trading, there are interesting figures on trading you can lose everything, example NAUT was 180000 and now 900, Or DGB from 80 to 2000 and now 150.

I think both require some knowledge in the field   and experience. As your are newbie I will recommend you first learn as much as you can from this forum and then try both strategy  make some trading and try pick ICO with real product or prototype. Divide your money on parts  and don't invest more then 10% in one trade or ICO.

define a ratio of long term and short term, it can be %50 to %50. You can enter mining, ICO or other long-term coins with that, and %50 with short-term trading, there are interesting figures on trading you can lose everything, example NAUT was 180000 and now 900, Or DGB from 80 to 2000 and now 150.

Most of the ICO investment goes to scam project only but trading is not like that and I do not know that how you are comparing ICO with trading they are 50/50 ratio. Try to do trading with the cheap coins as a part and trade the bitcoins. I am sure that they will be able to make the 1 bitcoin or even more in 3 months. If you do changes the value in the trading account frequently then you will be able to make more money.

I think trading is better for making short term investment since you can do it at anytime when you like, and ICO is a long term investment since there should will be big profit after some useful product or service are online.

I actually prefer ICO though. Investing in good ICOs can have high returns  :D but of course bad ones can cause you to lose more than 50% of your capital.

trading is more profitable than ICOs,because most ICOs are scam.
in trade you can gain upto 1000% in a single trade depends on market behavior.

In ICOs you risk your money for a long time and you are not sure if the coin will be successful.

I would choose investments in ICO. Trading, it seems to me, is much more complicated and requires a lot of time. While selecting an object for investment is easier and the risks are still less.

Hi, everyone. I got about $5000 to invest in crypto. Which one is more secure and profitable: trade crypto (yes, I'm a newbie) or invest in ICO?
I've made my own research and investing in several ICO's seems more attractive for me, but want to know your opinions ;)

There is a risk involved how ever you proceed.
The risk of losing your money is low for now if you go ahead with buying trusted and heavily exchanged crypto currencies like bitcoin, ethereum or ripple.
In the long run, you will be making some extra money.

In contrast, if you choose an ICO to invest in, the risk of losing money is higher, but if you proceed with choosing the right ICO to invest in, the profit will be much higher.
Just make sure you'll be doing your home work and that you'll be joining a successful ICO program - one that has all the qualifications to go all the way.

One such ICO right now is trade.io (https://trade.io/).

Both have high risk actually. But in trading you can control the outcome and if you really are good in trading  you can have a steady source of income. ICO comes and go. And you cannot be guaranteed that the project will be successful or the devs will be faithful and will not run with the money. Personally I'll choose trading over ICO because I am in control. But a good ICO can be very profitable if you chose the right project. It is whether you'll choose a steady income or one time big time.

I think investment in ICO is riskier, we won't know what will happen with the project. most of the ICO's is scam. they only offer a great bonus. better trading when the coins already listed on the market and it's more secure.

If you are a newbie, then neither.
I would recommend put 60% in bitcoin, 30% in good alts in the top 10 in marketcap, 10% in more speculative stuff.
Then you can learn trading by working with very small amounts only for several months until you have learned the ropes (or decided that you don't like it).
One thing I would say is be wary of ICOs as you'll need to do a lot of research to determine if a project is good or not, and also there is often a huge dump as soon as they hit the exchanges.
Another thing you can do is participate in bounty campaigns and airdrops.

Diversifying your investment is a really good decision. You can earn a lot of profit by doing it. Trading can be more profitable if you have the right knowledge and skills. ICOs is also a good investment. Like what he said, you should be very careful when choosing an ICO to invest on. Because nowadays, lots and lots of ICOs have been appearing and it is quite hard to determine which one is a scam and which one is good project to invest on.

I will choose trading for the long terms purpose or what we can say more or less passive source of earning money.

For ICO it is important to note that, not all of them are profitable or it may not be the case that they all will generate you handsome amount of profit all the time. Only few of them will come into market which can give you tremendous amount of money and you can benefit from he initial investment. Sometimes people get sucked into ICO because they never read the ROI value sometimes and it gets harder to carry the load of that investment until the right opportunity has arrived. So better think about the ICO is rare option of earning. Trading works best if you learn it step by step and acquire some analysis skills.

spreading your money into some investments is good it is better to that because in that way you can earn more profit than doing trading or ICOs alone and also, beware on the scam ICOs that just lurking around just to make sure that your ICO is very legit, then check if  there is a whitepaper and also, ask some members here if the ICO is legit. In trading the In trading the very important trait to have a good decision making skills ans also the knowledge in trading if you ave these 1 traits you will have profit.

I think both of those things have the same risk and do not have different places. because of the nature of the world cryptocurrency have the same thing wherever it belongs. but to the question of profit, I would be much more leaning into ICO although it could just be that doesn't match expectations. But most of the profits can be obtained via the ICO, because of the advantages that we can get much bigger than trading. It's just that it all takes time, so we also have to have patience

For everyone, not newbie. 50% of all is longterm investment to BTC 20% to alts of your choice. 15% to try traiding on exchanges. And rest to invest in 5-10 ICO.
But the main not try to go 50% in one coin or one project except BTC

If you will join the ICO then best to know about trading too. Just spare some money there and try it.
Why?
I saw in telegram that a bunch of first time investors are having a hard time on what to do with their coins or they dont even know where their coins at or how to receive it.
If you already have the knowledge in the trading industry then you wont have much of that question. Right?
Just so to minimize that questioning in the ICO's developers end.
Out of 500 questions there maybe 400 are the same asking how to receive their coins.

You can do both at the same time but be careful and don't trust anyone where to put your money. If you are just starting and you want to go on cryptocurrency trading you need to understand first everything about the coins you want to buy and do your own research. But since you still don't have knowledge about trading start buying small amount of two different coins with small value don't go all in. Investing in ICO is more risky than trading for me because most of them suddenly disappear having your money in their pockets, There are some legit ICOs but we can't tell if the project will be successful. I also do both but I don't just put my money without researching and understanding because that's the key.

I think that in this situation, you can try investing in a suitable tested ICO, only you need to invest a small amount. It is necessary to feel how it works. before investing significant amounts. For trading on the exchange, certain knowledge and experience are necessary. Here you also need to be careful and start trading better with small amounts and with well-known coins. The main thing is not to take chances before getting the necessary experience.

All you need with ICO is a good and trusted team, with time the reward will come, just don't invest all money you need for your upkeep into it.

Beside trading is not too risky, you can't lose all your money in few minutes.

Neither! Especially if you are just new to the space. You should just spend your time learning how to buy and hold Bitcoin and this will do you well in the short term and the long term. If you have a family or are thinking of starting one you should definitely just get into BTC as that is what has the real long term value all these other altcoins and forkcoins are garbage.

Since you are a newbie in trading then it is not advisable to put all your money there. You can choose to put an amount  that you are comfortable with and if you feel that you are already familiar with the market then you can choose to put a higher amount. You can also invest in several ICOs but do a due diligence first like knowing the people behind the projects and know the public sentiment of the project because you might get a hint of the project has many supporters or not. Many ICOs are scam so better be careful where you put your money and if there is a possibility you can communicate with the developers personally then meet them especially if you are putting a significant amount to the project.

First, what is trading and what is ICO. Trading is a proccess which you buy and sell for a short time, for example is you bought a Altcoin and then when the price is up or on your target value you exchange it immidiately. Buying an ICO is different, since you stayed on it until its price or your target date has been reached and then exchanging it.

There's no almost difference on it, when you trade you are buying an alt coin and trade it for bitcoin to get profit. And when you are investing into an ICO you will get their tokens soon that you are about to trade and exchange it for bitcoin. You made your own research but you didn't made a research for comparing what's the difference of these two. Go for alt coins that are popular and avoid those scam ICOs that are only going to take your money.

I think trading would be a better choice. Investing in ICO can be very risky to the point that you will be blindly invest based on what they just wrote on their white paper and have only plans and ideas. I am not saying that all ICO are scam but most of them are. It can be very deceiving to just look and research at what is their product and what can it do. There is no such thing as it will go to the moon after it hits the exchanges. Trading can be rewarding if you do it right. Why not invest in knowledge first. Study well and then  start with just a small money. In this way, you can just get your feet wet first before diving into it. At least you can experience it first hand and if it doesnt go as planned at least you will not burn your portfolio.

You should split your money and invest in the two. Either way you have to do your due diligence. Before you venture into any investment you should do your bit by investigating and research. For ICO there are a lot of scams so I will encourage crowdsale ICO and for trading learn the nitty gritty before you start.

Both are risky if you do not have the necessary knowledge. Investing in ICO is good because there are huge bonuses given but the risk is much higher. There are so many ICOs that failed. Aside from that there are other ICOs that are outright scams. And several others are nothing but projects founded upon the whims of the team. It is a good investment provided you will not fall among these categories. In trading, you need to learn the skills before you will also become successful. Study both very well before you decide.

Investing in ICO's can be more difficult than trading in my opinion. If you want you can open demo account and try trade crypto on dummy account but it's not the same - there is no emotions involved and believe me your decision can be influenced by emotions when price drops. Because you are newbie I will not recommend day trading for you, and I will not recommend buy Initial Coin Offering - it requires skills and knowledge, experience and patience.
ICO is basically investing in StartUp, things can gowrong at any stage from the beginning.

If you really must decide, try research about ICO's from first top 25 from coinmarketcap.com Make sure read their ANN thread, visit website, watch reviews on YouTube, Search videos witch Ian Balina on YT and watch them all. Make sure to read a road map, white paper, check Reddit what other users say, join Telegram. Some ICO's can take 2-3 years from day one before Tokens are highly profitable. If you don't know which one project to start?
research: Golem and SONM. Both are direct competitors but SONM is younger Project and price is still very attractive - around ICO offer.

Why debating this? while we can do both and ICO aswell with tradings is not far different since after the ICO we will go trade our coins we bought, But I will maximize the tradings since from here I can able to earn huge profits rather on ICO's where we can earn with this on monthly basis but sometimes it takes more months since we cannot make sure if the ICO price will come on the coins since sometimes the dump from the bounty hunters will surely came.

Unless the ico has discount, buy it. If not.  Its a total waste of time and money.  Some ico coins posted a year ago are still below at their ico price.  Just take a look at Chronobank time now still under 1/3 of its ico price.

That's a good point. I noticed that on the first day of listing all investors sell their tokens which pulls the token price down.

Dealing with new ICO is always risky. Investing into the project and being among those guys who were first to do it you can lose everything or get a really Big Prize. To my mind, trading gives more chances to earn here.

I would choose investments in ICO. Trading, it seems to me, is much more complicated and requires a lot of time. While selecting an object for investment is easier and the risks are still less.

I think investment in ICO is riskier, we won't know what will happen with the project. most of the ICO's is scam. they only offer a great bonus. better trading when the coins already listed on the market and it's more secure.
It is not so difficult to choose an ICO for an investment that will not turn out to be a SCAM as a result. Perhaps you will not increase your money, but if you choose the right ICO, you will definitely return it. But the trading on the exchanges for a newbie carries the high risk of losing money. It's only easy to say "buy low, sell high". And one more thing - to buy and hold BTC/ETH it's not a trading, it's just an investment.
Read this post on Reddit, it's just about the wrong investments - https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/6tfxq4/how_i_fucked_up_and_turned_600_btc_into_200_btc/?sort=old

Forgot this fairy tale that bounty hunters can dump the token price, mate. What can they do with their volume 1-2% of total supply maximum? Nothing.
I'll tell you how most of ICOs arranged. On early stage some big whales invest in project and get a huge bonus (private sale). Then there is a pre-sale, where small whales and groups of small investors get smaller bonus. And at the end of campaign ICO is carried out, where everyone can buy tokens at the highest price. After listing on exchanges big and small whales start to sell the tokens even lower than ICO price (if there is no explosive price growth right after listing) because their prices fm private pre-sale and pre-sale allow them to do so. And at this time all the ICO participants are indignant why bounty hunters sell their treasure at such a low price. ;D

So far It is going well. But I advise people who just start with crypto to just buy and hold for 6 months and take that time to educate themselves about the crypto market.

Hi, everyone. I got about $5000 to invest in crypto. Which one is more secure and profitable: trade crypto (yes, I'm a newbie) or invest in ICO?
I've made my own research and investing in several ICO's seems more attractive for me, but want to know your opinions ;)

I think it is all up to personal preference but really ICO carries more risk and more reward. It carries more risk because you dont know if it will get picked up or will be developed properly but there lies a bigger reward for

taking such a risk. Trading however the coin is already in circulation and you can see what it is how the community is and everything else. This leads to less reward but less upfront risk as you know everything you are

getting into. Again I say it boils down to personal preference, perhaps try both with a nominal amount like $100 and see which you prefer more. That can help you decide better which is better for your style of trading.

Recently there are very few ICO that give + at the outlet for investors (only if you wait long). This is somehow profitable for those who buy tokens on pre-sale with high persents. I'm more inclined to trading. About the word "safely" you can forget))) But if you find a really good ICO, then it will certainly bring you profit.

Go ahead and learn some crypto trading skills. Investing in ICO is not only risky but also the returns will be coming a bit late. I am not saying it is not a good way to invest but for a beginner like you I think the much better option would be trading. Here is what you should do: buy some good coins and then try to take a little amount from it to trade for yourself. This will be your learning experience. Take note of your entry and exit prices.

cause it could be scam or develop the coin ain't properly and stopped like nothing and u lose everything u invested into.

I started off by buying a well known crypto and then trading a very small amount, about $10 worth, trying to buy the lows and sell the highs. I had lots of successes and lots of mistakes, the successes helped to absorb the cost of mistakes. Then I got in to 2 ICOs again with small amounts, couple of hundred dollars. Again I learnt the ropes with these.

Now I do a bit of both, trade and ico's. Hope that helps.

To be honest with you, it’s never 100% secure to invest in cryptos. However If you’re willing to take the risk, you could as well invest in ico’s, which have the highest potential to rise a lot in price. Metta looks good to me, however that’s a personal pick and in no way investment advice. You should do your own research and then perhaps pick a project you really believe in yourself.

With that money you can do both, 60% trading for larger profit and disseminate your money to different coins or focus on 1 coin. 40% will be on ICO but make sure you did an extensive research before investing into one. Some ICO are shady and Scam , but some are promising. You just have to extend your patience in ICO but returns are great as well if you hodl for awhile. goodluck with your decision though it's your choice

I think there is a higher risk in investing in ICO, but a greater profit if it would succeed. In short, you have to learn and study the project so that you would know if it would work or not. As per trading, you have a n assurance because the coin youll be investing is already in the market, so you would know which of the coins have the possibilty to increase the value. So if i were, try both, that way, you would know which strategy you are good at

Soon there will be changes and invest in ICO will have to be wisely as before. Yes, that soon, not all investments in new projects right now justify themselves. New ICO reduce the hardcap. For example, Oracles (POA) updated the target to 12.5 million instead of the previously announced 25 million.

They are an upcoming asset backed ICo on the blockchain and are expecting a 1566% coin appreciation in a short period of time. Proceeds raised from their ICO will be used to purchase A-grade property worldwide generating a rental income and underlying value for the PTC token holder. This means that the coin will always increase in value!

I think you can choose both, my opinion is to invest in many places but it should have certain safety and less risk. $5000 is a big money and you qualify to try both trading and investing in ICO. However, before investing you also need a bit of knowledge. ICO projects are becoming more and more, so you need to learn thoroughly to make the right decision. As for trade, you are a newbie. I recommend learning more knowledge and techniques to gain experience, do not spend too much money on the initial steps because you can lose more. This is just my advice, wish you success :D

Trading is profitable if you know the game! Investing everything in one thing is wrong imo. If you do so, then the risk is greater, so having said this, it would be wiser if you share your investments and minimise the risk effect.
The risk is everywhere though, whether your investing in an ICO or if your trading Bitcoin and Altcoins.

I would recommend doing both, trading is good now, especially with segwit out of the way. Investing in ICO's is also profitable, start with joining a bounty program and collect Airdrops from these programs to start you off.
How about checking trade.io here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2370663.0

Your main goal should be to study whatever it is your getting yourself into, and be cautious of the scams that exist in the cryptoworld, because everyone is out there to make money.

For the love of God try not to trade if you can. It's very dangerous and you are likely to lose a lot of money. What you can do is invest in ICO's as you have already suggested, which will definitely increase your chances of making a profit (if you are good at picking the right project), but that really depends on you. Trading involved a lot of stress and there are days were you can experience restless nights, unable to think, eat or sleep, if your money depends on it. ICO's from the other hand are offering some long-term investment, which you don't have to monitor all the time, you can simply invest in what you believe in and wait until that thing either materializes or not. Stick with ICO's is my opinion, trading is very tricky and can get you destroyed in no time.

Trading is best option rather then ICO as new ICO will take time to implement their project and no one knows that project will survive or not. In trading, all listed coins have some background behind them and acceptable by investors and with your proper study, you can find a gem.

Trading is more profitable than ICO and if I were to choose between both I'd rather trade with a much well researched coin than an ICO that is unsure yet if it will make it in the future.

Just as you mentioned, trading needs experience, I think ico needs more experience since you do not have much former information about this project, while in trading ,you can see some information about the market performance.

Considering the market environment, i think ico is not the best choice now, you can buy new tokens when they hit an exchange with lower price. But, of course, there are some very hot projects like RDN, ico is a better choice.

Why don't you divide it into two? The first half is for trading and the other half is for ICO. Just to be safe. But if you studied the ICOs you are going to invest in and you found out that those are good ICOs and not a scam, then go invest all of your money. It's all your decision, after all.

Hi, everyone. I got about $5000 to invest in crypto. Which one is more secure and profitable: trade crypto (yes, I'm a newbie) or invest in ICO?
I've made my own research and investing in several ICO's seems more attractive for me, but want to know your opinions ;)
Most of the ICO nowadays are scam and only some of the ICO is porfitable and trusted. I think it is better if you will do trading. But you are still newbie so it is good for you if you will study first the information about trading.

if you has knowledge about trading I think trading is profitable but still has risk you can secure that about risk
but if you not has knowledge ICO can be some way to make profit but you must get information accurate about that ICO
ICO can scam or loss value of coin/tokens
trade can make you loss

It takes a lot of effort to learn trading and become profitable. Even experienced traders lost money a lot of time, especially in this market. For ICO, it's more in your control as you can research about the team and the project before making a decision.

Just focus on trading because ICOs are all just about presentations to lure you and they already making that it's price is like this or like that but then it will just going to be tanked down terribly when it hit exchanges.

I personally do both, trading is one to get short-term profits. and investment for the long term, so I think this is about the problem of knowledge. if you have more knowledge about trading and crypto you will do the same.

both can be done, and both can produce a decent profit, but both require knowledge and experience, as others have said. but if I am, I will try to trade first in small quantities, if you want to invest in an ico you have to really analyze the project, whether the project can be profitable in the future

If you are newbie I prefer you to don't try that both.
because your too early to do that risky thing.
but if I can choose , I suggest you to learn trading , so you can make a profit with your own without depend to the others.
so first thing you must do is learn this article https://www.deepdotweb.com/2017/04/30/tutorial-altcoin-flipping-cryptocurrency-trading-strategies-always-win/. if your mind already opened. Don't be doubt to begin.

That is something what you need to decide yourself.
Do a lots of reading first, hold that 5000$ until you are sure that you know what is ICO and what are risks of investing in it and what is trading and what are risks of trading.
You can go with both as well.

Perhaps, investing ICO project is a good one. Just invest in the ico project that has a KYC rules, because that token for sure will increase after the ico campaign then once being distribute the token to the investors and list in the exchanger it will multiply more than x2 or more.

Investing in ICO at this stage you play roulette because now even promising coins are falling very much

Title: Re: Trading or ICO
Post by: realisto on November 15, 2017, 09:54:05 PM
5000$ is a lot of money, but keep in mind the biggest gains with most of the popular currencies have already happend (ETH, LTC etc.) so if you invest now your chance of a huge return like you would have received if you had bought ETH early this year is a lot less likely to happen then back when those currencies were "undervalued", if you now buy in you wonīt have the same leverage since the increases in price are still huge compared to classic investments but the chance for 200-400% growth seems smaller with established coins right now. (personal opinion, not the majority opinion). Also keep in mind if the price goes down just after you have bought you will loose a sizable share of your 5000$ on paper (if you dont panic sell since those 5000$ are closer to your heart than you initially thought).

The Other option is investing in ICOs, like with every investment you should stick to grandmas words "never lay all your eggs in one basket".
Research 4-5 ICOs, and i mean really research them, think about their business case, about their real world competition ( most regular people donīt know what the blockchain is, even less so do they know they need it in their life as a customer) and then invest into your top list.
If you do that, you will become a pint-sized venture capitalist, sounds good right?
Just keep in mind you will invest heavily in the founders and their idea of a mainly not yet finished product - this can be the best thing ever (think microsoft, google, amazon, facebook) but i could also be a complete loss like that DVD+ player you bought instead of a Blue-ray player (if you donīt get that reference it is a clear sign i am to old).

With Trading you will have to invest a lot of time constantly, otherwise you will rely on stop loss&take profit orders which could ruin you if you donīt watch them carefully (google gdax ETH flash crash for further reading) and with ICOs you have to take a leap of faith into the founders and them chasing their dream, partly with your money.

I would prefer you invest into ICOs, but maybe because I am part of an upcoming ICO myself, so take that with a grain of salt.

Both are good as long you make the right picks but the fact is no one is a 100% lucky with their picks. When you're not, you might just choose to wait it out.
Both are risky if you do not do your due diligence. ICOs have given 10X returns in the past but that isn't the case anymore. I prefer trading even if it gives me smaller margins  but they are consistent. Like many have mentioned diversification is a good idea.

Trading is more profitable in my opinion, when you partcipe in a ICO you are not always sure to recover the invested amount.
Buy when you trade everything is in your hand and if you diversify well your portfollio your interest can grow very fast, trading is better when you participate in a ICO they keep your funds for one month at least and you can loose money if the price if the price does not increase or worse if they dont deliver your coin, in the second case you will have been stolen

Investing in projects is sometimes very profitable, yet you can't control this and you can't know the result. With trading, you develop your trading skills and then you earn as you developed yourself. You can control what you're doing in trading.

Anyone who is running ICO can request personal information and say that they need it because of some kind of regulation and only gather personal information of investors. KYC requirement could reject investors from investing in project.

Dont invest all your money in just one way. Try diversifying your investments, it will minimize the risks, there is always a risk involved either with investing in ICOs or with trading BTC and altcoins.
Also there is so many fake ICOs and scam projects, make your careful research before investing.
Diversifying always help in spreading risks. Normally, since that is all I have or I have set aside to invest into crypto, then I will take some part of it and invest into BTC and some other top coins that I trust to deliver after looking at the charts over the years and then HODL.

Little part of it can be spread into ICOs as they are a very good way to really make some good profit if you do some good research to invest into the right project and then the rest can go into trading after I have learnt all that it is needed to know about trading safely and efficiently. With this, the OP can never get it wrong.

For me the most profitable is Trading but you need alot of knowledge in analyzing and speculating the market because trading is just like a strategy game you have so many oponents here specially big investors you need to know what happens next on the market and trading is too very risky for the newbie so if you're newbie you need to invest only small amount of money, In ICO you don't need have much knowledge to learn you just need to analyze if that ICO is good and Legitimate so many Icos are turning into scam and developers running the funds so make sure that the ico you belong are have so many good reviews from other big investors and you need to wait for few months to get your money unlike trading you can sell it anytime depends on you.

Paricipating an Ico contains a lot of risks. It takes a lot of time to end an ICO process and many unexpected situaitons would occur at that time. We see that when coin go exchanges, they can be bought lower than the Ico values. So better be careful about the Ico's. If the risk is worth for the participating the Ico, go for it unles trading is more reliable.

Both trading and ico are profitable these days just be sure to invest in icos that have very legit team members and good project plan you might want to check first the whitepaper for you to be able to know what are the plans of that particular project in the future, In my observation in many icos choose etherium based tokens as they are more profitable in the short time compared to others, trading is also profitable be sure to research first the coins you wanna trade this is risky for the first timers but if you master trading it would be very effective.

There is a lot of profit there but you need so much practice and training.  The majority of day traders actually lose money.

As an alternative to ICOs which are very risky try to find coins which are undervalued because they are still under development but have a great development team.

And of course put a little into ICOs...

Hi, everyone. I got about $5000 to invest in crypto. Which one is more secure and profitable: trade crypto (yes, I'm a newbie) or invest in ICO?
I've made my own research and investing in several ICO's seems more attractive for me, but want to know your opinions ;)
Dont not do something that you have memorized to do, and be careful of ico because not all are good ones are scam too. Just keep on reading always and be wise also.

Both are good but trading is more of the profitable one and guaranteed way to earn if you know how to do it well.
No one is born as a trader, so you will really need to learn to be able to bet best at it. Still, for ICO, it is more of an investment in the growth of a company or a project and if you can always hit a good project, you are definitely guaranteed a win.

It still does not come easy too, since you will need some research to hit a good project and also count on the team delivering at the end.

Ico is more relaxing, if you are clever, you are sure to make profits, but it's easy to choose a good ICO

trading or ico are two things that are very profitable if we can do it right, because trading requires experience and patience, usually people will buy coins that are falling, and hope to rise again, but if ico, should be more careful because very much a scam ico project

Do both. Do not put all your money in ICOs and altcoins. Have a balanced portfolio - invest a part in bitcoin/ethereum, another part in top ten altcoins like OMG and the rest in promising ICOs. This is what I recommend. With ICOs do the research, read, follow, monitor. Do not invest based on marketing hype - pages of forums written by paid people, advisors for the marketing sake, etc.

I haven't tried trading yet but I'm sure trading is better than ICOs or joining bounty campaigns. Traders are actually getting huge profits on trading and that's why Bitcoin price is soaring very high because of traders that keep on buying and selling coins in order to pump everyday. Joining bounty campaigns on ICOs in order to get new tokens is only for beginners and doesn't know how to trade because trading requires special skills and experience.

In the future I'm gonna make money also doing both but I think I'm gonna need experience because as a trader it's not guaranteed you'll be able to get according to the way you want to get. As of now, joining signature bounty campaigns is the only option I have and I doubt if I can make my living by ICOs alone.

it is better to split your deposit, since ico is a more risky type of investment than a crypto currency

Trading or ICO are both risky, its like gambling, its either invest in one or invest on both but make sure that when you invest you will gain profit. Regardless if it is small or huge amount of profit, the important thing is you Learn , after doing those decisions you can now invest on the successful experiment that you have done.
Try this ICO https://www.spectivvr.com i suggest it because i know that when you invest in this it will be valued. For world cause.
