Title: Separate myetherwallets for trading and airdrops
Post by: Paranuatu on November 09, 2017, 09:07:14 AM
I fel how some airdrops are scams trying to get into your wallet. Would it be wise to set up two of them, one for legit trading with altcoins and other for aidrops?

Yeah actually it's a good idea! If they somehow steal the private key of the ETH address which we gave in the airdrop by phishing or any other techniques! We will be safe! This is actually a good practice. Nothing is stopping is from creating a new ether wallet as it only takes a minute with couple of clicks.
Safety of the funds is the top priority.

It is a definitely wise step to make so. A little bit more actions from your side will give you more confidence and safety.

Not a bad idea, I would recommend to keep each coin in a seperate wallet to start with, not all airdrops coins into one wallet, but each wallet for a different coin. That make things kinda complicated to manage from your part, but it's the best solution if you want to be completely safe, as you know, it's enough if one time something bad happens, for you to learn your lessons. We've seen these kind of situations happening from many other people, falling victims to scammy tactics, so it's a good idea to learn from their mistakes and implement best practices when storing cryptos. Use a different address for every coin and make sure to keep the stored "cold" (offline) by using either a usb that is not connected to your computer or using an already available options such as Trezor.

You have a good idea because it's possible to have an unexpected event. Just like accidentally setting a PR. in air drop form. Good to be sure. Especially because it really hassle can also steal our whole salary to the campaign that we joined. This is what I will do to prevent such events from happening. To be sure it is also because the evil ones are spreading and they have no forgiveness. Just steal our hard-earned money.

Thats why i have a lot of myetherwallets i just sometimes don't trust airdrops because they can check your balances if they have your address. I just make a new one and give it.

My first wallet i just hide my coins in it and i hide it for everybody.

If hackers can steal the private key to your airdrop wallet, they can definitely get the private key to your trading wallet. It seems like a good idea in theory to separate them, but in practice, I don't think it would make much of a difference.

It would because if you get hacked, only one account gets hacked. And you would not use your trading address in any airdrops or shady websites  that would try to scam or steal your address. But the strict rule should to never give away your private keys. Always keep it safe and your funds are safe.

Yes of course it is a good idea. Firstly, you safeguard your coins by diversifying the risks. Secondly, it is good to separate your wallets based on the purpose of coins.

Or I will say why not you all hold your greed for a while and don't participate in Airdrops!!
What is Airdrop? A free distribution of valueless tokens which get some value overtime due to speculators and eventually drop back to zero where some gains, some loose. Or in short words, it is a spamming of Crypto market.
Let's not make crypto market a joke, if we say Cryptocurrencies are future of money then Airdrops are biggest hurdle in its inception.
I would never request MEW to create anything similar so other people can endorse spammy tokens.

Good idea to have 2 and more wallets. But the main, that you should remember nobody can ask you private key. If even Bill Gates ask you - know he want to get all your money.

The best thing to do is not to put all your eggs in one basket, alot is happening in the space and one need to be wise  and be preventive, I saw  a thread some weeks back where a guy lost all his tokens in his Ethereum wallet

Yes, it could be a good precaution to have a separate wallet for airdrops. It may or may not help, but it certainly won't hurt. Another thing to be wary of with airdrops is those where you have to download a dedicated wallet for that coin... some are legit, but some will be malware.

I have been using that technique for more than months, but i am not interested on airdrops and this is why i apply it to other kind of things. I use my real eth wallet on those programs and things that involves like "real money", and those money who is from online works, or any other kind of service on this forum i use a fake wallet, well, the second wallet , who is for storing all my coins in there and moving them toward the other one.
It is very safe if you it by the good way.

This is a great idea, an extra layer of security I suppose. Can never be too safe.

I think it's a good idea ,,,, for the safety of our wallet, I just thought, after reading this thread, for our wallet security should be made separately between the Main wallet with a special wallet for airdrop,

i think that is a great idea .it would make me feel a lot more secure about doing airdrops ,at least then they would not be able to see the balances in my holding wallet

It is nice that you realized this very early. I can see that you are somewhat new here since your account is still a low rank one. Airdrops are now full of shallow coins that will definitely not live long enough to acquire much value. It is good that you will make sure your myetherwallet is safe from phishing attempts that might be very fruitful especially if your myetherwallet has some very precious coins already.

Public and private wallet should be owned by evry traders. If you want to get airdrop use publoc wallet. SOmetimes some I am worry to send my wallet before then I create public wallet. Now, my asset is secure in my private wallet. I never tell anyone about my possession in the wallet. By giving private wallet to others they will know your balance.

Definitely a good idea to have multiple wallets, especially one for airdrops. You don't want to become a phishing target due to the ETH you have in the wallet when you apply for airdrops.

No matter how many ETH wallet we have, if are careless with our private keys still a chance to steal our money. Not totally necessary to have other ETH wallet but still a good thing to do, so we know where is a certain coin coming from.
