If you're talking about a bitcoin or ethereum wallet, then definitely use hardware wallets. Specifically, Trezor, Ledger Nano S, or Keepkey; with your recovery seed written non-digitally, like on a piece of paper. That definitely should be safe enough.

The bitcoin wallet I use is blockchain wallet and coins.ph wallet. The blockchain wallet has high security so my bitcoin currency can be safe and many of bitcoiner using this wallet. It depends on what currencies you hold.  My favorite way to store is a hardware wallet.  It is a physical device, secure, not subject to malware on a computer when using the device, affordable.  A few options are Trezor https://trezor.io/, Ledger https://www.ledgerwallet.com/ or Keepkey https://www.keepkey.com/.

Yes, paper wallets are among the safest wallets you can use. There are risks as well though...

Other safe options include hardware wallets and cold storage.
Anyway you can use any wallet you want, but there are 3 main things to keep in mind in order to have your funds really safe:

1. The safest wallets are never online. Thus you cannot spend their money, but you can only store it for the long term.
2. To be really safe, backup your private keys and store them in - at least - 3 different places (for example a piece of paper, a USB stick and maybe your brain).
3. It's not important only which wallet you use, but also who can access such wallets. Stolen funds can come even from relatives, friends or collagues. Take care of your wallet, private keys, seed and store their informations only to very trusted people (for example your wife/husband).

try trezor or if you do not want spend money for it and have an old laptop, make a clean install of the system and install full wallet of a desired crypto and use it only for this, no other things.

As newbie I take this as an opportunity to explore myself concerning this business. I downloaded different wallet apps to discover it and while doing this I also make reading on a forum with the discussion about this matter just to see which wallet is using by many.  I usually check the rank of a person. So far I'm using the coinomi, myether, coinbase, and coins.ph(philippines).

In my honest opinion, I believe that paper wallet is the best and cheapest option when it comes to the holding Bitcoins. However, one must generate it in the secure environment, store it in a safe place, maintain more than 1 backup copies at various locations to prevent it from losing forever. When it comes to the hardware wallet like Trezor, it is safe too but comparatively costly yet flexible to use as compared to that of paper wallet.

You don't need hardware wallets if you have knowledge how to keep your keys safe alongside with your computer. Hardware wallets just make it easier for "non-tech" people.

But yes go with paper wallet specially if you are looking to hold bitcoins for a long period of time. For extra security run live OS (on CD/USB) without Internet connection and print it to multiple copies and hide them on more places: for security purposes. Since you need to make sure that you won't lose it.

You may also want to look at HD:deterministic wallets (BIP39 , BIP44) you can google this to see how it works. In short this wallet gives you a "seed" / "mnemonic" that you need to know/save. With these "seeds" you are able to generate bitcoin private key and address not one pair but multiple of them. This can come handy if you need more than one address and also if you are keeping/storing many other cryptocurrencies as many of them support this feature as well. Which means by backing up this seed you can get access to many private keys for other coins as well, not just bitcoin - this is mostly the way how some multi-coin wallets store your private keys and public key in the first place.

But I would go with paper wallet why not.

Paper wallets are a really clumsy way to store your coins. Not only that they take time to make, can be read by anyone that breaks into your house, easily damaged by water. With all the advanced options users have I wouldn't choose a paper wallet, unless I was afraid of an EMP attack, but there are safes with EMP protection if you're that paranoid.

I find the Trezor wallet it works for me,
It is a hardware which I find to be safe and a secure
Way to store your BTC.
My preference, but a lot of other ways to store, do some research
And decide what's suits you, always keep in mind security.

why there are so many wallet and why people use different type of wallet?
The easiest answer (cause there are more than this) is that it is like in companys, why you have so many diffrent brands of phones, drinks, boots cause every "company" want to earn and people pick one of them cause of number of coins, tax, fast or even is someone just recomend it to someone.

If you need a safer wallet, you must buy a hardware wallet. It is the best and safest wallet for your bitcoins, but its more expensive than the others.

Safest wallet is common sense.
People owned Trezor but still lost Bitcoins. Why?
Because they gave their seed on some third party website to claim Bitcoin Cash/Gold and soon Diamond.

Never give your seeds. Use air gaped PC preferably Linux such as Tails with electrum for Bitcoin.

Read the guides on how to secure your stash. Treat it like a treasure because it is.

Edited:
oh and make sure to create backup of the seed on a physical paper for yourself in case you lose hardware wallet.

I probably recommend the Blockchain wallet because the security is awesome. A 4-digit PIN is used to access your wallet on your phone. It not only shows the balances of each of your Bitcoin addresses, it can also scan QR codes and display on a map the location of nearby merchants who accept bitcoins. The only thing it is missing is the ability to handle other digital currencies.

You should buy yourself a ledger nano s hardware wallet. It costs about 70€ and to be honest it isnt exactly user friendly when it comes to people who have never been in touch with cryptocurrencys at al - but still there is a lot of information on their website and the internet in general on how to use it and a hardware wallet is by far the safest option you can choose because your private keys will never be physical in touch with your computer exposed to the internet.
Even if you use a paper wallet you still have to type in your keys at some point if you want to use or acces your wallet - and then a keylogger could log your keys. This can't happen if u use a hardware wallet

for BTC you may need ledger nano as the hardware wallet, and about software you may try blockchain, actually every wallet is safe and has high security. it depends on you how do you use it, if you just give someone your seed or private key, then however safety or security from your wallet is in vain. so just keep it secure.!

The least secure thing one could imagine is using a piece of paper to save your bitcoins. It could easily get misplaced, torn, or damage in water and other conditions.
If you want a hardware wallet (much secure than paper) ,you could use trezor or ledger.
Personally, I would recommend Electrum, which is a desktop wallet. I would suggest you to encrypt your wallet file and make a secure backup of it somewhere else in case the computer crashes and breaks down.
I don't recommend anyone to save their bitcoins on online wallets like blockchain.info or coinbase or any exchanges, because you have to trust a third person to secure your funds. There is a little possibility of it getting hacked or owners taking away your bitcoins.
There is a simple saying, "If you don't hold the private keys of your bitcoins, then they are NOT YOUR Bitcoins !"

There is no safest wallet.Even the hardware wallet can be stolen and hacked due to human ignorance and the less secure wallet can be made secure by human intelligence.I would advice you to use cold storage if you want to hold large amount of bitcoin for long term and use hardware wallet if you want to do daily transactions. That should be sufficient and make sure the wallet you use for cold storage gives you access to your private keys.Paper wallet can be considered a safe cold storage option :)

I wouldn't store large sums on Coinbase. I'm sure that they are secure but you have to believe they won't be hacked or anything else. At one point in time, people trusted Mt. Gox and we all know what came out of this. So it's better to store funds where you have your private keys

1.Web Wallets (Hot Storage)
             Easiest but the least safest.

2.Desktop/Mobile Wallets (Hot Storage)
Better than web wallets but depends on a 3rd party server.

3.Hardware Wallets (Clod Storage)
             Simply a USB dongle.

4.Paper Wallets (Clod Storage)
The private key printed on a piece of paper.

5.Other types of wallets
             Eg:-Meta Wallets,RFID enable chip

We used hard wallet ledger because it cannot be hacked by scammers. It is more safe than online wallet.

MyEtherWzllet. I use it and I'm fine with it. Seems safe and sound, and if it works - why change it?
I recommend it.

Safest wallets to use are ledger, trezor but they come with a price. If you want you can use paper wallet instead or other wallets like myetherwallet for Ethereum, rippex for ripple, DeepOnion qt for onion etc. Always remember to use wallets from official sites only.

Should I just write it on a piece of paper? What do you guys use?

For Etherium based tokens my ether wallet or meta mask wallet can be used and for Neo based tokens Neo tracker wallet can be used.

Depends on what coins you are holding. For ERC20 I like MetaMask and MyEtherWallet.  They seem to be the easiest.  Good luck.

There are trusted wallet but not really safe if you don't careful.

downloaded different wallet apps to discover it and while doing this I also make reading on a forum with the discussion about this matter just to see which wallet is using by many.  I usually check the rank of a person. So far I'm using the coinomi, myether, coinbase, and coins.ph(philippines).

depends on the crypto you want to store, but https://jaxx.io/ is user friendly & you have full control on your private keys, https://www.myetherwallet.com/ also
if you are looking for a hardware storage, I suggest you the Nano S https://www.ledgerwallet.com/

Regards.

I use blockchain wallet for store bitcoin and myetherwallet ( MEW ) for ethereum . But using online wallets for store coins is not safe anyway.  Hardware wallets are very good option if you think about security

A safe web wallet for example uses a secure socket connection which means https in the url bar and allows you to control the private keys or own these or export to another wallet.

Personally I'm thinking to store all my wallets on a metallic plate (QR code) and copies on plastified paper. I want to store the first in a safe-deposit box in my bank insured for 30.000 € - even if the value of my wallets in theory could be greater - and the latter in a secret and inaccessible place that even CIA can't find ;D As if it isn't enough I'm going to use my personal "system" for the letters and numbers wrote on the paper.

Frankly I don't understand why people don't use safe-deposit box. For less than 30/50€ per year you can keep your box in the vault of a bank. 1 key is for you 1 key is for the guy with a gun that lives in the vault. Evey time you enter you have to sign the attendance register. If your box is stolen or if the bank cannot find it (e.g. earthquake, meteors etc.) the insurance company have to pay out 10-30k (or even more) immediately with real money even if your box was empty. Way better than an USB device in my opinion.

p.s. Yes, I am a bit paranoid :o

As the name implies, you record the public key (bitcoin address) and private key on a piece of paper. You can send the bitcoins you get from each bitcoin client to the bitcoin address generated by the paper wallet. P2pbucks provides this service. However, please note that the address and the private key on the paper wallet are public, which increases the chances that the bitcoins will be stolen, so you must protect your paper wallet files!

A hardware wallet is the most secure. Regarding the recovery key for the hardware wallet, you can encrypt and store it on a reputed cloud storage.

Bitrex, etherdelta and binance are now widely used for trading purposes. I see in this list also bitrex most choosy wallet among the forum member. I also use freewallet, it's a very trustful one.
Whatever wallet you chosee, you have to choose the best coin on daily basis to invest that is enough and make sure all passwords are safe enough and better use clean e-mail to register so that noone try to get your wallet info through it.
