Title: Forum bots
Post by: fragout on November 11, 2017, 10:25:01 AM
Is there anything going to be done or anything that can be done about all the newbie posters that are appearing now who post shit on various threads just to increase their status. I dont know if its bots or users but probably bots as the posts they make are almost identical.

Examples here :

If you believe they are breaking the rules then just report them they will eventually be dealt with.

Report them. It usually gets them nuked within a day. I'm pretty sure people are doing it on regular basis. It's a constant fight as they are making new ones every day, even reactivating old ones. I saw the seclog today and more than 10 newbie members with no posts woke up within 1 hour. In a day or two they will all be shitposting the same thing trying to get their activity up.

Staff can only act on them once they're reported but they're banned once spotted. Unfortunately, I think it's a losing battle though cos we can't really compete with bots who constantly keep changing their tactics to avoid detection, and this is why I'm a big proponent of removing signatures from ranks entirely because this sort of account farming wont ever stop otherwise.

Some of them seem to be getting more sophisticated.  They don't just repeatedly post the usual one liners anymore.  I just spotted and reported this one (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1273831).  It's less noticeable because it only quotes segments of one or more posts in the thread, instead of quoting the entire post, but still trying to blend in by duplicating existing text that has been a natural part of the conversation:
