Title: solo vs rig gpu-performance
Post by: coinlikedoge on November 11, 2017, 06:05:52 PM
Hello,

first off, im all for googling things like this, but i've been working on this for 2 weeks now and cant find clear answers.

I have a 470 (Gigabyte gaming G1 4gb, bios modded) and a 580 (Sapphire Pulse 8gb, bios modded). When i put a single card on the board in windows i can put the following OC's:

470: core 1162; mem 2150; -100mV (Crimson 16.11.5 & Crimson 17.5.1 installed)
580: core 1176; mem 2100; -80mV (Blockchain driver installed)

However if I put both on risers, or 1 on the board 1 on a riser, and put for either card: core 1200; mem 2080 (other stock); it goes to BSOD: "thread stuck in device". This is with any configuration of the above mentioned drivers in which both cards are recognized. (except for blockchain driver, but the 470 only gives 4mhs on dagger with that)

Now my questions:

1. Is it always the case that cards perform better individually than in conjunction (with/without respect to them being different)?
2. Is it possible to "tell" the drivers to which card they belong, or "tell" the cards which driver(s) to use?
3. How can a piece of hardware use multiple drivers anyway, and what is merging them? (I followed the wiki on /r/ethermining)
4. Am i overlooking some aspect?
