why is it happening?

It's a very complex attack on Bitcoin by the Bitcoin Cash team.

They are using their massive amounts of both Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash to flood and congest the Bitcoin Core blockchain to decrease the speed and increase its fees.

At the same time they bought their own Bitcoin Cash to increase the price and trigger a wave of FOMO.

There are also a lot of shills going around spreading lies in hopes of making profits on this attack. It's basically the digital age equivalent of an on-going coup d'etat.

Don't support Bitcoin Cash if you believe in the true vision of Satoshi, which was to decentralize power.

Spam attack, and likely has something to do with what the poster above me had mentioned when he took a guess that the Cash team is attacking Bitcoin and trying to make their own product appear more valuable. Seems pretty orchestrated to me, now that I am starting to look at some of the queues and address paths. It's likely not going to tone down for a fairly long while and we're going to experience a lot more spam before the week is over. Maybe we'll get lucky and they run out of transactions to spend, but you never know for sure.

Seems like there are whales significantly involved in all of this. I don't believe this would be happening without a massive amount of Bitcoin being used, in tandem with a ton of fiat currency.

But Bcash have no spending power. Our can only pump and dump the coin for profit. Bcash will never replace core.

Well, let's put things in perspective, segwit (what you call 'original bitcoin') came AFTER bitcoin cash.
What I think is happening is that people are starting to accept the fact that bitcoin cash (BCH) can successfully deliver on both fronts:  store of value AND transactional/payment capabilities so it'd have the best of both worlds whereas core/segwit seems to focus mainly on store of value.

Personally, I'd give priority to store of value but the transaction/payment/currency market is actually a LOT larger than gold so if BCH can deliver on both fronts then Bitcoin in general will face NO competition and will cement its place as THE cryptocurrency king and really take off. What I really like about BCH is that the block size can be dynamic and not fixed so it could adjust accordingly.

Most of the comments you will find around in forums refer to calling names the people behind these projects to discredit them and play the  fundamentalism card. I couldn't' care less about that. I only care about the power of their ideas and ability to deliver. :-)

It's unfortunate that the community is divided but let's not forget that we are all for bitcoin and we should not be divided. I'm cautiously optimistic about BCH but let's see what the market decides.

I don't trust this greedy Jihan Wu and his cohorts. They play the dirtiest games in crypto for them to rise in power. The crypto world used to be an innovation that is insulated from politics and other personal and greedy tricks. Jihan Wu helped to change such clean face of crypto and turned it the other way around. The pump happening right now is not permanent. The fork of Bitcoin Cash is happening tomorrow. Thus the pump.

This is partially my stance on the matter as well. Jihan Wu and Roger Ver are two very shady people that act nice in public and manipulate everything from behind the scenes. I will wait patiently for Bitcoin Core to sort things out. Proper scaling that works for the whole community takes time.

Meanwhile Wu and Ver are more interested in playing power games and trying to gain control than in preserving the community. They don't care if people lose money in the process thanks to the manipulative schemes they follow, as long as it could result in more control for them.

I'll just stay in Bitcoin and altcoins and ignore Bitcoin Cash entirely.

And if Bitcoin Cash miracurously ended up winning I'll just use Ethereum instead of supporting those con artists.

They have a lot of fiat money, Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. So they could keep this going for a while. Note that Bitmain has stopped accepting Bitcoin for Antminers over a month ago and only accepts Bitcoin Cash now.

That was already part of this attack. Their manipulative schemes reach back quite far.

why is it happening?

I actually read something that says bch is gonna go for 2nd place and tear ethereum apart. The growth rate of 57% in 72 hours is alarming. This happened after the cancellation of segwit2x. I just hope this is not a cry of protest. This may lead to killing btc but i hope it won't. It used to be a clear sunshine for btc. Now with bch sudden spike, i'm seeing dark clouds approaching.

57% in 72 hours is not alarming. We've seen greater increases in crypto several times.

And this is not a cry of protest. It's extreme levels of market manipulation by the Bitcoin Cash team.

Yeah, i am constantly checking bitcoin cash price and it turned all time high, currently selling at $1800.
Looks like traders are moving all their bitcoin to bitcoin cash, they want to replace bitcoin by this new currency.
People follow what they think is profitable. If the pumping continues, it may go upto $5000 and even more.

This is unfortunately true. It's quite pathetic that people follow the money, even if it comes through manipulation and deception like in the case of Bitmain and Bitcoin Cash.

If Crypto was regulated the Bitcoin Cash team would be going straight to jail.

After the BTC failed to implement Segwit2X it looks like this time BCH is determined and will replace BTC lead the market. People are panicking for what is happening in the battle between the BTC and the BCH. I'm still skeptical of this bold move from the BCH and if this coup succeeds then the altcoin market will likely have similar coups.

BTC didn't "fail" to implement SegWit2x.

Check who voted against SegWit2x.
It was the Bitcoin Cash team! They are manipulating public opinion, the Bitcoin Core blockchain (flooding transactions), and the Bitcoin Cash price. And they have been planning this for months, as you can see by Bitmain only accepting Bitcoin Cash for their new miners since a few months back.

Bitcoin is doing just fine, Bitcoin Cash is the piece of shit that can't play fair and square and has to resort to shady behind the scenes manipulation in order to even stand a chance.

I guess this is due to the cancellation of segwit2x since there is no market available to divert bitcoin. BcH needs to be at the top so people will get interested to it. Besides the first time bitcoin cash is introduce it did not get much market maybe this is also one way to help bitcoin available in the market when people sell their bitcoin and go for bch then bitcoin supply will be back in the circulation

I think its only pumping one of the coin, nothing more.
Many investors buy bitcoin to sell after fork, fork canceled and now need to sell btc for high price.
Comunity select bth for this time. Maybe after next fork rises other popular coin

Nobody started investing in it.

The Bitcoin Cash team started a targeted attack against Bitcoin Core while simultaneously manipulating the Bitcoin Cash price to trigger FOMO buys. There's nothing behind Bitcoin Cash other than manipulation and deception.

Yup, I had a confusion and I mean Segwit2x hardfork was canceled.
I also know that it is very likely they are manipulating the news, which makes investors panic and it is likely that the BCH will achieve what they want. But if that brings benefits to the market in the future then maybe I also have no objection

BCH is dropping down dramatically right now from $2400 to $1400. It's definitely a pump and dump game, nothing worth in actual.
ETH is gained its 2nd place again. Such a crazy day.

My guess will be around 1200 USD for BCH and 6500 for bitcoin.

Expect much more volatility up to January as BTC corrects to healthier levels and BCH will make further strides. TA indicates BTC can go down to sub 5k levels before it levels out. Keep in mind that BTC and BCH pairs are closley following each other currently.

By the time of your writing, Bitcoin Cash is going up and its been pretty pump hard by those manipulators. And bitcoin crash plummeting to below $6000. However, bitcoin already recovered from this all of chaos the last 3 days of so and now bitcoin cash is dropping. So basically what I'm saying here is that Bitcoin cash rise is just temporary and won't killed Bitcoin although I believed that the fight has just started and those people behind bitcoin cash won't stop until they put a significant dent on the market price of bitcoin.

If the issue the team attack network of bitcoin that cause slow transaction, there will be no problem, I think blockchain bitcoin will prefent by it self to secure the network. As long as suporters keep bitcoin and not move to bitcoin cash. BTC cash is fuck. Intruders, opportunist , and capitalist.

I think no, Bitcoin Cash cannot kill Bitcoin for any reason and there should be no way Bitcoin cash to slam Bitcoin into being part of history. These mining team that are trying to convert attention into a manipulative way and start making huge profits by turning into Bitcoin Cash and leaving Bitcoin out thousands of pending transactions to small miners that will cost users to complain about the delays.
Bitcoin will be always Bitcoin but Bitcoin Cash will have it's part of ways.

Dastardly subhumans who only want to make a buck and care less about decentralizing and freeing humanity. I am quite surprised the way Bitcoin went down and BCH went upwards. This is a clear example that most people in crypto are just for profits, and decentralization and all those things are just cover ups. But it is also true that Bitcoin is having high transaction fees, transaction time, not good for micro payments etc. which were it's main selling points initially. I guess, the point is if you don't evolve, you go extinct. But of course, BCH is not an alternative to BTC. Hopefully BTC will find it's path to recovery.

I guess, the point is if you don't evolve, you go extinct. But of course, BCH is not an alternative to BTC. Hopefully BTC will find it's path to recovery.
I can subscribe to your every word. I think that the bch example the miners are trying to put pressure on the developers. This is wrong. Changes to bitcoin are really needed. Everyone is interested in it. Just need to know how to negotiate. War is not beneficial to anyone. Bch just a tool in this war. Its use and throw away like rubbish.

Bitcoin is doing just fine, Bitcoin Cash is the piece of shit that can't play fair and square and has to resort to shady behind the scenes manipulation in order to even stand a chance.
i think this is a reason for bitcoin cash break $2500 , and i believe bitcoin cash come back $500 soon . after pump is dump , bitcoin - btc is king  crytocurrencies .
The people behind this shitshow still have a huge amount of Bitcoins and Bitcoin Cash left, so we might see more of this in the future. Hopefully that won't happen, but be prepared.

100% agree
But Bitcoin Cash has 8MB block size. Doesn't it make it superior from efficiency perspective?

It's just a pump, relax, guyz. It's way easier to apply hardfork to the BTC than replacement by BTC cash. Some people earned a good number of easy BTC by that pump by the way.

8MB block size is just a bandaid fix. Proper solutions can't be rushed and Core will do just fine.

Look! the price is dumping. and looks like people spreading disinformation about bitcoin cash, that's really bad idea!

There's no relation between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash in terms of values. They have their own path and dump-pump concepts. Bitcoin Cash' sudden price hike is due to shifting support of a large scale miners from Bitcoin into Bitcoin Cash but that doesn't mean Bitcoin's network is crippled due to an event but the case maybe in favor to Bitcoin Cash by now but the sudden Price hike is a good proof that any altcoin can have a good future and be the next Bitcoin.

Really no shifting support. Miners mine what is most profitable. And the market manipulation from Bitmain and Roger Ver made it appear as if BCH was more profitable for a very brief moment. Now Bitcoin is 2,7 times more profitable again and even Bitmain (the leader of BCH) shifted back to BTC.

I think it was a drama set up to destroy the bitcoin they used to earn cash to pour into bitcoin cash and called the miners to dig up bitcoin cash and prevent bitcoin segwit2x

bitcoin cash is rising suddenly because it is being pumped by all big whales, who want to rise bitcoin cash to peak and sell to gain high profiit, this trend does not last for long, because when the big whales dump bitcoin cash, its price will drop back again.

It already crashed really hard. Time will tell if it'll manage to stay above $1k.

I see that bitcoin cash is rising dramatically topping Ripple volume.
why is it happening?
Well, why are you so surprised by this situation? Everything in the old scheme, the coin raised, earned money and lowered back. Everything is standard

It's all about miners, difficulty and profit between bitcoin and bitcoincash. As both of them have same algorithm and devices for mining, bitcoincash is the real competitor of bitcoin.

Real competitor BTC in terms of shilling. Try to do research who is behind BCH and people supporting it. BCH price behavior is totally manipulated. They use the opportunity of the Segwit2x cancellation of fork to gain attention by means of FUD news. And now bitcoin network is overloaded by small size transaction which in my opinion setup intentionally to hurt BTC.

It is already going down as of now and the drama and the hype is already settled as we can see the price is already decreasing and now bitcoins price is gradually increasing again which means profit takers did already make their move and for those people who did get in on late for sure do have the dilemma on how they would get out specially if they are already on negative floating. No one can kill bitcoin even if its price do decrease but later on it does recover again.

obviously it was pumped from the particular people and it will not killing bitcoin because as you can see currently people more likely to dumped this coin again and i have to says many people has been trapped because they thought BCH hasn't stopped raising and decice to bought more BCH when the price reach all time high but very unfortunate i'm pretty sure they will suffering huge loss however i was very lucky to listen my friend when he said i have to carefully from this pump and i'm so glad because he said was true because currently BCH dumped rapidly

I consider the appearance of various bitcoins clones, taking into account their characteristics, a good process of improving the crypto currency. The original bitcoin is already heavily overloaded and can not cope with the amount of transactions that have arisen. Dimin in seven transactions per second leads to the hang of transactions for a long time. This defect is completely eliminated in bitcoin cash. Significant improvements also have bitcoin gold.

That is because the Bitcoin Cash team (Bitmain and Roger Ver) are attacking the network by spamming transactions to slow it down and drive up the fees. Bitcoin Cash is a manipulative scamcoin and nothing more. If Bitcoin Cash wasn't attacking Bitcoin Core there would be no overload.

To be honest, it is oretty obvious that these massive price increases hapoening to bitcoin cash is nothing but extreme efforts to pump the bitcoin cash coin. It clearly is a planned propaganda or move to take down bitcoin and make it look bad for everyone and make bitcoin cash look amazing and better than bitcoin. But you know what? I ain't buying this sht. All these bitcoin cash people can shove all their bitcoin cash possessions up their asses and get the fck out of the crypto world. I don't want a piece of their shitcoin. Didnt even bother getting my free bitcoin cash. Soon this bitcoin cash will get dumped and people will see how useless this shitcoin really is.

This has absolutely nothing to do with investing either. This is an attack on Bitcoin and decentralization, but enjoy sucking off your Bitmain overlords.

Bitcoin Cash isn't a threat for Bitcoin and although it is a fork last August, there has nothing to do with Bitcoin the sudden rise of Bitcoin Cash' value.
Bitcoin Cash has it's own strategy but they're backed by a large scale of miners and supporters that simply wanted Bitcoin Cash to bubble. maybe it's just an experiment that puts a simple Altcoin into a mega cryptocurrency that everyone is talking about this week.
Bitcoin will never be affected by Altcoin pumping, Bitcoin will be affected by large scale attacks that has been noted since Bitcoin's value is rising.

You clearly don't understand what Bitcoin is and what it was created for. Not much of a surprise coming from somebody who only cares about his bank account though.
