Title: 7990 - 2nd GPU burning up ... looks abnormal
Post by: ragingazn628 on June 20, 2013, 10:08:43 PM
I have this guy right here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131483

I undervolted it to 950mv and left everything else defaul. Fan at 70%

First core is 60C and 2nd core is 90+why is this?

cgminer settings

-thread-concurrency 8192 -I 13 -g 2 -w 256 --shaders 2048 --scrypt

Most likely the second core isn't being undervolted. I read before this was a problem with earlier 7990s, and the linked card is one of them. Undervolting both cores works fine on my 7990 but I have the newer Malta revision.

Try disabling ULPS, if you haven't already.

How are you guys undervolting the Maltas?  I have them running stock and they are running at 100C on each card!

HELP.

thanks

MSI Afterburner - using latest version 3.0 beta 10. Undervolted to 1.0v and 950MHz/900MHz clocks mine run around 78C.

What the hell is that red light?

BIOS change switch

What's it switch?

What's it switch?

You can flash a secondary BIOS, in case something goes wrong you can switch back to the default and re-flash. Failsafe against completely bricking the card basically.

MSI Afterburner or Sapphire Trixx should do the job. Make sure you verify the settings take on the second GPU.

You can down clock memory to 40-100mhz  (You may run into stability problems around 50mhz range)

Use MSI Afterburner and down clock the memory, under-volt if you wish (have to enable it), and speed up the fan (manually).

1.  install latest msi afterburner.
1B.  Close MSI Afterburner and keep it closed until the last step.

2.   Edit the MSIAfterburner.cfg file and put this MSIAfterburner.cfg file in the msi afterburner directory.
C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner

3.   search for atipdlxx.zip or atipdlxx.dll on google or bitcointalk.
3B.   put atipdlxx.dll  in C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner

4.    open msi afterburner.

I recommend dragging memory mhz down to 80-100mhz
or lowest level then close msi afterburner then reopen to down clock more.

turn fan off from auto, move fan % to appropriate level.

7990 tahiti (probably malta too? ) second gpu is voltage locked. But, if you set core clock at 700 with cgminer, then is posible lovering voltage to 0.950 (with cgminer). Second gpu always is more hot.

I have a Malta and the second GPU is not voltage locked.

yeah my sapphire 7990 is not voltage locked.. my gigabyte 7990s were and they ran hot as hell.
my sapphire on the other hand has been running for a couple weeks non stop in my open case, 74-78c.

I am looking to get a 7990 for mining, but the information about undervotling (second core) is incconclusive. which cards are you using (mode number?) and do oyu have more information about undervolting?

I have got  two  7990 from Gigabyte ( Malta )  they are hot like hell  :(
now I am trying to setup  lower  VDDC on them  using cgminer   : "gpu-vddc" : "1.120,1.120,1.120,1.120",
but  second most hot gpu stays with  VDDV 1.175   :/
I was  reading somewhere  that  malta gpu can  work on stock  1000/1500MHz  with  VDDC  1.095 / 1.100
without  lowering  vddc   we can  forget  about  mining  scrypt on it  with room  temperatures  :/  +/- 21'C

i have notices on other (single) gpus, that cgminer only reports what the driver reports as voltage. but that can be quite different from what voltage is really set in the card!!!

My voltage problem solved , catalyst 13.9 and  MSI AfterBurner 3.0 beta 17
vddc for  my 7990  set up at 1.13V    without OC  and  every gpu is mining with speed  660KH/s  max GPU temperatures 78'C
VRM temperatures  85'C    good enough for me now .

b.t.w

I still can't play  BF4 or  Benchmarks  using  2x7990   it is  shame on AMD drivers team that they can't do a proper drivers for multigpu configs.

Are you able to lower memory voltage?
