Title: Google Auth
Post by: ragtimebetty on November 12, 2017, 07:07:41 PM
So I had to reformat my phone, and silly me thought the google back up codes on my account backed up my google auth, which it does not.  Not I am locked out of several wallets I used for small transactions (storing small amount to send to my main wallet, browser farming/faucets set up before I got a better wallet)
I can't seem to get the authenticater back and some of the sites don't have simple ways to remove the 2FA,

ie I have a dogechain.info wallet and can't find a reset or contact info to remove 2fa

any ideas on how to recover or mass remove 2fa I had on several sites?

This doesn't help now, but for future 2FA you might want to look at Authy. You could recover your keys from a desktop, app, or a browser.

I am always scared of using the Google Authenticator but even if I have to use it, I do back up the keys in a draft

There is no way to recover 2FA, Google auth.
This is happen to many people before you, thats why using privates key and backup wallet its necessary if you lost access about this, so you can open your wallet on another device.

I'd look into another Auth, I've had this issue with google before - I think unless you can provide everything they won't re-send the codes back to you. But they will probably ask for details of all accounts, the dates it was added... I'd have a nosy on a google auth forum and see if anyones had success.

Didn't think about this before but i use google 2FA on bitrex. What are the steps necessary if I want to move it to other phone? Can I have it installed on both phones simultaneously?

I had done this along with my contacts, even though I popped my sd card where I saved  it out of my phone before I formatted, all the info other than my pics was lost, seems it was corrupted along the way, in some kind of muphys law of fml

Best thing to do... check if you can log into websites... if they ask for a 2fa then most likely that would be part of it. Most websites will let you log in past the initial screen to the 2fa screen

dont use google authenticator, you just made your balance lost. it's very hard to recover it, you had no choice.

If you contact support of the exchange your wallets are in they should help you reset the google authentication with a new phone.
