Title: BTC or LTC
Post by: FredGordon on June 21, 2013, 12:50:49 AM
Not sure if it is the good place to ask that but if I have just one Radeon 7970 Graphics Card, should I mine LTC or BTC considering that Bitcoin difficulty is way higher.

Thanks

I usually go to Coinotron.com and watch the profitability table at the top of their home page and switch to the most profitable cryptocoin. Right now it's LTC (37%) and FTC (44%) better profit compare to BTC.

Found a site once which showed what coins were worth mining. Don't remember the URL but I remember LTC being more viable than BTC because BTC is more difficult these days.

I would say Litecoin, as Bitcoin difficulty will keep increasing as more ASICs come online.  GPU mining is going the same way as CPU mining with Bitcoin.

But ASIC will also be used to mine Litecoin, so not a safe guard either, am I wrong ?

Scrypt is more ASIC un-friendly for now so it wont be a problem in the near future.

Isn't that kind of like biting the hand that feeds you?  If LTC is becoming the only alternative for GPU miners, shouldn't they be thinking long term and retaining the Litecoin instead of just making ASIC mining that much more profitable?

I agree. If people keep converting Litecoins to Bitcoins they will simply fall in value and become another alt coin for the count.

I say mine LTC and then sell half of what you mine for BTC, and then stack both.

As far as I know, Litecoin will give you better returns at the moment.

It depends if you can get the full kH/s out of your card mining LTC.  I am getting 650-700 MH/s BTC with a 7970 on very cheap hardware - old motherboard, 1gb ram, etc.

I tried going to LTC hoping I could get more $$$ doing 650 kH/s, but my hardware couldn't handle it.  I started getting bad shares around 300 kH/s, and once even crashed my motherboard with a 'thermal event'.

So yeah test out where your hardware max out mining either or, and then decide.

I just started mining last week myself with a 7950 and I haven't tried. btc yet just Ltc and FTC, how long does it take to get 1btc mining with a decent pool with a single 7950? any recommendations on a btc pool to try?

Thanks I'll mine LTC then. Anyone can suggest me a pool? I heard about Give-me-ltc but I'm not sure of what it is so...

Thanks!

I use that pool.

And I agree that LTC is the better way to go for now.

BTC is too sketchy.

Too scammy.

Too much BS in BTC.

LTC is more profitable then BTC and you have more chance to make profit by holding LTC then BTC.

LTC is 30% more profitable mine. And it's also going on mtgox the largest exchange platform, which many people are speculating will lead to a nice increase in Litecoin price.

I therefore recommend mining LTC and holding onto as many as you can. I will be shocked if the price hasn't gone up in 2 months.

LTC is more profitable with a GPU then BTC because with the ASICS the difficulty for BTC skyrocket.
Give-me-ltc and weminelt are both good pools for LTC

The sooner you switch your GPUs to LTC mining, the better (for your wallet)
However, lack of adequate/reliable pools is still an issue

Btc-e sells LTC.

Yea it trades there, but the question I have is how do you get cash out of there if you want?  Can't turn it into bitcoins and Dwolla it anymore?  If you wanted too, how do you turn back to cash?

Smart choice In my opinion.  How many posts do you have to do before you can post at another forum other then newbie forum?

TIA

I rather hold lite coins.  LTC doing fine and I think is superior to BTC for many reasons.  Faster, more secure etc = way more upside
