Title: Running Antminer fans at 100% constantly?
Post by: ukjack on November 13, 2017, 07:39:56 AM
I have 150 Antminers from a recent batch hosted in a data centre. I’m interested to hear peoples thoughts on running the fans at 100% constantly. Noise isn’t an issue, boards and chips run at 10C cooler compared to auto speed.

My thinking is that cooler chips means more lifespan less chance of failing hash boards and fans are easily replaced?

Perfectly fine, the maximum power draw for the fan is when you have zero air flow rate, that's the point of maximum stress to the fan / max static pressure and max current.

I do the same and run fans at %100.

I am running fine since 5-6 months with no issues.
Chips and PCB definetely become more cooler.

Thanks for the replies

I checked manufacturer spec on the fan and lifespan is up to 5 years with a 5-68% variance which is more than long enough.

The Delta fans Bitmain uses are DESIGNED for long life at 100% fan speed.

Running those Delta fans 24/7/365 at 100% is no problem. We have 74 S9's and we find that sometimes the fan blades will become brittle over a long periods of time, 12-18 months. Very occasionally (it's has happened 3 or 4 times) one will 'explode' in rather dramatic fashion, meaning that a blade will chip or break and shread the rest of the fan rattling around inside the cage. The fan will stop spinning and the miner, no longer being cooled properly, will perform a thermal shutdown within a few minutes, and the downed miner will pop right up on our monitoring software. Replacement fans are cheap and take less than 5 minutes to swap out, and we've never had a miner suffer any damage when this occurs.

I think also so, it may be better if walked continuously 100 %

While you are at the fan speed(i am awaiting my S9 to arrive) Do you have control over fan speed? Can you manually make it to always work at 100% or is only automatic way for it to work?
