Title: is there a way to determine wallet version from just wallet.dat?
Post by: khelair on November 14, 2017, 05:50:41 AM
I have been digging through some old archives that I've only recently been able to access again.  First thing I went for is my old BTC & LTC wallets, as I know that they had some currency left in them when I was forced to abandon them.  Unfortunately, I don't have a clue what version of the software they were for; I only know that it's not anything within the last few years.  I believe that they were last used about 4 years ago, maybe 5.

Does anybody know of a method to determine what version of the bitcoin wallet this wallet.dat file is for?  I've tried perusing the file for strings, and nothing intelligible regarding a version, or even anything that looks like a version #, is appearing.  Any help would be greatly appreciated on this matter.  I'd be happy to toss some BTC to whoever can help me figure this out, though I can't promise it'll be a huge amount.

TIA!

Wallet.dat only contains keys and should work with any software version of the wallet itself.
