Title: Let's demand Kraken our bitcoin gold
Post by: educob on November 14, 2017, 08:25:52 AM
Hi all.

Yesterday I opened a support ticket in kraken demanding my bitcoins gold. (No answer yet)

I encourage everybody in the same situation to pressure those thieves to give us our bitcoins gold.

This is the problem when you don't control your keys. If you wanted immediate access to your BTG, you should have moved your BTC to an exchange that explicitly said they were supporting it, or to your own wallet where you can extract the keys.

I don't think Kraken is under any legal obligation. They have your BTC in custody; they can't be expected to support any and all forks. If BTG has staying power and holds value over the course of weeks or months, maybe they'll credit the BTG to customer accounts. After all, there was replay protection, so they technically still have the coins. But they need to set up a whole wallet infrastructure and implement it securely; that takes time and money. They need to be sure that BTG isn't just a shitcoin that's going to immediately crash and burn before they take the time.

About 10 days ago they replied to a support ticket that they have no plan to support bitcoin gold and to give out the coins to people.
I am Ok with it, I am the only one to blame if I really wanted my bitcoin gold. I should have moved my coins from Kraken. And I somewhat understand that they don't plan to support it.
BTW, if they changed their mind, do keep up us updated with your ticket.

They do have much bigger problems with their platform performance not able to improve it once ... too much to ask for new features/implementations

The pressure you want to ensure they comply with is going to be out of their sheer will and I am sure you are not new to the crypto world at the same time not unaware of the time of BCH fork. It has been a rule that even when there is not fork that you should always keep your coins where you control the key and this is always more pronounced during the build up days to the fork happening with various threads that show up on how to claim BTG which you are obviously not ignorant about.

Good luck in getting others join your course and hoping that Kraken will bend to your rules and mostly if you have learnt your lessons to always keep your coins where you have the key.

I sent a similar message yesterday regarding missing Stella Lumens; will send another about BTG today.

The same goes for Polo. Months later and no word from them about it. Looks like they've pocketed the free money.

Probably, probably not. The main point of importance is that an exchange isn't required to hand over the fork coins people think belong to them. Some exchanges are pretty quick when it comes to crediting on-exchange account balances on a 1:1 ratio, but it's clear that a large portion of the exchanges like to take their time, literally. Don't forget that enabling forked coins on their platform requires time and optimization, which is something people don't seem to realize because they only focus on their 'free money'. People should definitely grant exchanges more slack in that regard. If you want to avoid such situations again in the future, make sure you take your coins off the exchanges you are using before a fork takes place.
