Title: Coinbase account instantly hacked upon recipt of BTC before last confirmation
Post by: DanzoFriend on June 22, 2013, 09:55:18 PM
I've been using Coinbase.com and really liked them. No troubles, and really easy to use. I had setup two factor authentication, setup a safe password, use Noscript and Adblocker, and scan my computer all the time with AVG and Malwarebytes. So I sent 10.399 Bitcoin there to sell. The 6th confirmation hit, and the status on the transfer said it would be valid any minute. Yet when this happened, another order popped up to send the exact same amount of coins to an external address exactly one hour to the minute the orginal transaction to receive BTC was recognized. Both were clearly pending at the same time. I never even saw the money hit my account.

Here's "advanced details" page on the order to send the coins to an external account: http://postimg.org/image/i5tojn2wt/full/

It looks like I'm not the only one who has had this happen:

Anyone else had this happen to them?

Holy browning of the boxers Batman!

So I got an email this morning that this incident was a software error, and they guaranteed me my coins were safe. A few hours later they credited my account for the full balance plus an addition 10 bucks or so in coins for the inconvenience.

Man, I love BTC but this just shows me how fragile they can be
