Title: Avalon highly unstable hashrate

My friend and I have received and set up two Avalon ASICs. We have no prior mining experience and only little experience with hardware in general.

One unit is running perfectly so far, while the hashrate of the second unit is highly unstable. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this? We checked the cables inside the cabinet, they're all safely plugged in, and all units inside are warm.

Are you running the latest firmware?

In our cgminer system log we have a lot of these:

A friend of ours had the same problem and replaced the shipped computer with a Raspberry PI to solve it. If this continues we will probably do the same. According to Avalon it should be an OpenWRT hardware bug and thus not repairable with new firmware.

Two steps:
1. Ensure you have disabled wireless, this is the main contributing factor towards the USB dropouts
2. Ensure the F1 fuse is removed (it might have already been removed on your unit as it's a more recent delivery)

First thing to do to rule out things...

UNplug the Good one...does the Bad one improve?

Remove cover to see if heat related. Blow a fan at it.

Actually I propose the opposite

The TP-LINK TL-WR703N is rather crap and the ethernet port sometimes gives issues.

It seems other people have also noticed network issues with the ethernet while the WIFI works fine

I think Avalon only tests the system using WIFI (considering their default setup)

One of my units had similar issues likes yours on ethernet but works fine on WIFI. Either stick to WIFI or swap out the TP-LINK TL-WR703N for a Raspberry Pi

The F1 fuse issue and WIFI overloading the board should be fixed in recently delivered boards

Look at the graph for avalon03, looks familiar? ;-)

Thank you. Disabling wireless seems to have solved the issue.

Ugh... why is disabling wireless considered a fix?  Wasn't wireless one of the selling points?  It should just work.

Should? Yes. Does? No.

Fail comes in all sorts of different forms in this world. This is another example of it.

There seems to have been conflicts between the wired and wireless interfaces. Maybe if we had used the wireless, disabling the wired interface would have worked as well.

Dude,
Wireless will never replace the wire. First thing you should do is to disable it. In my image i do not have wireless modules compiled at all. You got stable pool communication, 0 usb issues a lot of free memory (at least 10Mb 1/3 of the total available 703 memory). If you want it you have to take all the consequences coming along. I still do not know why avalon soldered external antenna (batch one) at all but this is another story

PS: it is a better idea to find out how to calculate your real hashrate and not to relay on pool stats. Just learn
