Post by: miscreanity on June 29, 2011, 03:59:29 AM The Bitcoin network builds the groundwork for the computer equivalent of a self-regulating cellular membrane with neuronal features, particularly behavior akin to an action potential (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_potential). It's ability to autonomously self-regulate is probably the single most important aspect. This structure could possibly enable some radical capabilities beyond acting as a monetary or political system.

Sort-of like the idea from a New Kind of Science where a lot of simple components and rules produce complex life-like behavior. Also as a side note, the Singularity Institute of Artificial Intelligence is accepting donations in Bitcoin ;)
