Title: Difference between Sapphire 7970 and Sapphire Vaporx 7970 ?
Post by: forexmasterja on June 24, 2013, 02:30:19 PM
I would like to know what the real difference between these two GPU's ?

1# Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 OC with Boost 3GB DDR5 11197-03-40G

2# Sapphire Radeon Vapor-X HD 7970 GHz OC 3GB DDR5 (11197-12-40G

Do both of them hash equally as well as the other ? can one be oc or undervolted more or something ??

Which one is the better buy ? in terms of Bitcoin hashing as well as scrypt hashing ?

"Vapor-X" has custom cooling, so you can theoretically get better OC. It also looks like the "Vapor-X" version is factory overclocked.

Looks like its not much difference to me as the regular one can be overclocked just as well.

So i'm thinking its better to go with the regular one instead of the vapor x and save some money as they both should achieve roughly the same hash results ..

Ive built rigs with both of these cards.

The Vapor-X I found had a lot louder fans. So if you are concerned about fan noise the Vapor-X is a lot louder. In my experience for hash rate there isnt a lot of difference to be honest.

The Hash Rates were roughly the same

Great thanks for the reply. I'm just concerned about hash rate & power usage. So sounds like the regular will work ..

i have both the dual-x and vapor-x. the vapor-x seem to run cooler at higher clocks. my vapor-x run steady at 680mhs <70 degrees @ 1.25v, my WF3 on the other hand won't go past 640mhs reliably. if you can get a vapor-x for $15-20 more, do it. the extra cooling is worth it. they are one of the thickest cards out there, i could not get 2 to fit side by side in a Haf XB because the width is wider than 2 slots, although you could do a 3 card setup with 2 vapor-x and a dual-x

my dual-x gets about 630-640mhs in the mid 70's. i have to say the sapphire cards are great for scrypt mining considering they're usually on sale, as are the WF3 with custom bios.
