Title: How to Uninstall Bitcoin ABC from Ubuntu ?
Post by: BADecker on November 19, 2017, 07:46:47 PM
I installed Bitcoin ABC on Ubuntu to try it out. But I found that I didn't like it. Now I can't find any instructions that tell me how to remove it so that I can replace it with Bitcoin Core again. It won't go away, even when I use remove and the PPA. I am on the verge of removing Ubuntu, and reinstalling it. Does anybody have any suggestions before I make such a drastic move?

 ???

Bitcoin ABC is like a pre 0.15.0 version of Core, but it is for Bitcoin Cash rather than regular Bitcoin.

You should actually re-install your OS. It was a big mistake for you to install any other software that isn't signed Bitcoin Core software on your computer, I would never trust fork-wallets on my main OS.

And don't forget that Bitcoin Cash's Bitcoin ABC uses the same root directories as Bitcoin Core which is a total mess, so I would use a secondary computer if possible, to install Bitcoin ABC, but if you don't have another computer, create another partition to deal with altcoin software so you stay safe, or at least an VM.

Be sure to back up your wallet.dat in case you do any mistakes.

Thank you. Fortunately my Ubuntu is a second, less important computer. I run regular Core on windows... another computer.

Well, you should move your Core installation from Windows into an Ubuntu installation. Why run a node in a closed source operating system? specially if you have your wallet there... bad idea. You must minimize risk as much as possible by using open source software. Not only you guarantee there are not hidden services spying on you, but you also minimize all the viruses and malware that windows is exposed to. You can use Xubuntu if you want a more light weight version of Ubuntu.

Bitcoin Core GUI. To start Bitcoin Core GUI, click the Ubuntu swirl icon to open the Dash, type bitcoin , and click the Bitcoin icon. You will be prompted to choose a directory to store the Bitcoin block chain and your wallejt.
