I believe everyone is aware of Ethereum and it's unbelievable pump which we witnessed in mid of June this year and all i am wondering is will Ethereum be the contender for the most reliable crypto currency ? is Ethereum the next big thing ?

I doubt that. Ethereum has been hyped for long and the crypto has refused to ride on that hype. I don't see it as the next coin rather I see litecoin on that. Believe me, if litecoin was used as much as ethereum is being used, we would have see the magic with litecoin.

For me, litecoin is more in the "fight".

It is not competition on cryptocurrency for ethereum to be called a contender on bitcoin. Maybe ethereum could be a rival of bitcoin in digital currency, thus bitcoin will still be the leader of cryptocurrency and ethereum will follow what bitcoin has established. This we dont know until such time comes that ethereum will grow as rapid as bitcoin.

For me I believe that ethereum might grows just like bitcoin since many users now was in smart contract and It confirmed much faster considering that it also provide a small fees we could expect that the price of ethereum might grow just like  what bitcoin investors are enjoying now.

In terms of capitalization, it is perfectly possible that ethereum can reach bitcoin, as I do not see a justification for people preferring to invest in bitcoin more than in any other crypto, even though at this moment there are many other more advantageous and efficient than bitcoin.

But the market does not seem to be guided by logic, so I think that the hegemony of bitcoin will continue for a while longer before ethereum reaches the place it deserves.

Ethereum has already growth a lot just like bitcoin did. If i am not wrong, ethereum was below ten dollars by the beggining of this year, and now it is more than $340 each one.
It is more than x34 of the first price that it had at the beggining of this year, i dont know why you are complaining about that. In fact, ethereum gave the early investors much more profit than what bitcoin growth during this year.

Ethereum has already grown an incredible amount much like bitcoin and it is already a big thing. In the long run it can be a contender for bitcoin, right now it's about 1/4 of the size of the market cap. Ethereum cannot in my opinion now pump in the way bitcoin and ethereum did previously. The most we can expect is a year similar to this one of bitcoin where it increases 7 or 8 or 10 times its value inside one year.

Ethereum will eventually grow but am not sure that it will able to attain the same value as bitcoins is currently having, Most people are rather focused on bitcoins at the moment so no one is giving serious concerns about Ethereum but in my opinion it's time will come.

Since Ethereum's demand is high because of majority of ICOs are using an ERC-20 compliant token, that equates to a brighter days for ETH in the crypto currency world. But i don't think it will grow completely like what bitcoin had been doing all year long. It's just hard to imagine alt coin(s) growing like bitcoin if bitcoin is still around.

etherium is smart contract that impress many people now days, its big company and supporter so i am sure it can grow as bitcoin competitor.

Yes it is possible ethereum could be the next big thing as what you said, but it cannot surpass bitcoin, but it is a reliable coin that we can put our trust in investing, we can see its price increasing in time pass possibly we can be sure that these two coins wil be the best coins in crypto world as I see.

As the adoption of crypto grow I think that it might be posibble but for me and prob others as well btc will be at the top still because it was the first one out there , eth could come closer and maybe even overcome btc but for that they will need some really premium feature not just to be the place where smart contracts are mostly used for ICOs but for something really usefull.

Most probably, yes. Ethereum has provided a significant infrastructure for lots of proejcts and hosted their smart contracts on the blockchain. It has a real usage by the people of the cryptocurrency. It will keep growing surely.

Yes I would have to agree the ETH is really a good coin and it is even better than bitcoin, however, I doubt that it can grow similar to bitcoin because it is just another altcoin. If you look at the historical logs, it reaches ATH around May-June but haven't reached it again. While bitcoin is breaking ATH, ETH can't even touch $400 now. Although its on a current bullish run, but in the long run, it will experienced another dump causing the price to go to sub $200. So no, it will not grow like bitcoin, sad to say.

Wow this thread is full of newbies and non-sense posts, anyway, i had bought some ethereum at $6 each one of them, and i sold them at $15, this was by december of 2016 if i am not wrong.
two months later the price of each one of them reached more than $30, and i wanted to kill myself because i missed a huge opportunity.
By that time i did not have money, i was poor, i could be reach if i keept all my savings in that coin, because i had more than $3000 in there, and just think about it, i could made more than x7 from that thing.
And it is at more than $300 each one now, and you are complaining.. how many newbies there are in here..

Ethereum is just an Altcoin
while Bitcoin is the Maincoin.

For me ethereum has become big but will not replace bitcoin as king. There is a lot of speculation that says ethereum will replace bitcoin, but I do not feel it will happen. Bitcoin prices are always on the rise and are now touching $8000 and this is the latest achievement of bitcoin prices. Bitcoin gets stronger in the future, so I'm sure no one can replace bitcoin.

Ethereum will grow just like Bitcoin though ofcourse the price would be different. Still bitcoin is the highest, Ethereum has already reach the price high but it cannot beat bitcoin. Ethereum is the next on bitcoin because it has many users until now.

Ethereum is a true Altcoin. The team Ethereum is very smart.

im not  aware how etherium was pumped up, all i can see is that its value is still stuck at a verry low rate and i dont think it will grow like bitcoin because etherium is not the real contender of bitcoin but  bitcoin cash is. overall  etherium is not the next big thing because people are switching on the best coins like bitcoin and bitcoin cash for a much better profit.

I think yes, until now there are still no better substitute better than eth, but the one that need to pay attention is eth movement is very slow, after the up in mid June, the price not moving a lot, eth need to increase the popularity so no other alt coin could take eth place

It already does. Only this year ETH had a return of over two thousand percent by which any count is one of the best pefroming cryptocurencies this year. Considering that it's the second most capitalized coin out there, it's fair to assume that trust in ETH is very high (money talks) and that's a good indicator for future growth as well. Fact is that more and more developers are using the ERC20 standard which has been developed by Ethereum and more and more ICO's are using Ethereum as the underlying network on which they operate. All these are important growth indicators. ETH has already made descent returns when compared to BTC (BTC will probably always hold the top spot though) and it's definitely an important asset to have to any portfolio.

No it wont. Total market cap for ETH is 1/5 of BTC and price per coin is still 1/25 as per current rate this is due to Total coins available and circulating in market. Also mining rewards are easy for Eth compared to BTC!

In future ethereum is going to do well and if ethereum switch to pos I think ethereum will be heading to the moon. I have been following ethereum price since the beginning of this year and it seemed ethereum has the capacity to compete with big coins like bitcoin but it has been limited by one issue or the other.

There is a posibility. We have other coins, Dash, Zcash, Bitconnect, Byteball bytes and Bitcoin cash. Competition is really huge at current situation. At a sudden one or the other coin's rate boom up. This indicates how well cryto is welcomed and spread amonst everyone.

Of course, ethereum still has a lot of room to grow, and there are even those who predict that it may be worth $2000 in the medium term, but I do not think that ethereum is competing to displace bitcoin since each one has a specific and well-defined niche. Ethereum is becoming a dynamic business platform, while bitcoin is rather a store of value and long-term investment.

No chances for that. If it grows to 1000 dollars the cap of eth will be huge. There are so many coin in circulations thats why no chance to reach at least 2000 dollars in 1-2 years

Those coins mentioned here has the greater potential of its growth right now, and if we have to look at on ethereum platforms I guess it has to go more long ways to achieve that developments like of bitcoin does. When we have to face the current situations that ethereum was undergoing right now, the struggles is really not easy for the devs of this coin and panic sellers is always dumping their holdings. They diverted their investments to other eth platforms which mainly affected the entire eth community and also caused the price to lower of its value. We should never lose hope and must think that after this current dumping of eth there will be a brighter future that this coin will also be following the journey of bitcoin.

The problem with Ethereum is that is doesn't have a finite amount so they can issue more tokens i think that is one of of it's problems.

Looking at the rise of eth is not that high as how bitcoin rose. Eth is rising slowly though.. I think it hasnt primed yet but when it primes and reach it peak.. It will not grow as much as bitcoin is, and I dont think it will overtake bitcoin.

Seems like a lot of noobs here. Here's a tip, buy low and sell high. Bitcoin just went up %400 over the last 4 months while ethereum hasn't even tested it's all time high in over 4 months. Now which one is considered high and which one is considered low?

but ETH has many other solutions, so its demand is not growing as fast as the demand for BTC

While ,many might think that Ethereum may be inferior to Bitcoin because its price value is lower, this is actually a good thing for potential investors who are looking for means of investing other than Bitcoin. The lower price may attract more investors as there is more room for growth. The only drawback would be that Ethereum is not as well established as Bitcoin. In consideration of this, Bitcoin is safer than Ethereum.

It doesn't matter which one is better, if you want to make money all you have to know is which one has a lower risk reward at the current level. Simple..Or you can just fly by the seat of your pants and hope for the best.

Most of the Altcoins in top 100 will go down in price and will not be on the first 100 this time next year, I believe 2018 will be the time to separate boys from men. So many projects will fade out of the space

I think otherwise the ALT top 100 will not dim,this is due to BTC which will drop in price as it was the beginning of the year that has passed.I think ETH grows at the beginning of year 2018 and this also has seen the maturity of ETH up the market charts.

Ethereum needs a stronger community members and supporters, that's the only thing they need to grow like Bitcoin, but still it is impossible and ETH doesn't need to be on the same level with Bitcoin, it just need more supporters. ETH project is being very stable in terms of the demand and price . Its not that volatile like BTC. So considering like btc will be difficult because btc prices grow due to its volatility which is not the case with ETH.

Exactly, even though the value of Ethereum is stabilizing, it will never reach the status of bitcoin right now with just a blink of an eye. The high price of bitcoin attracted the users and make them engage into it more deeply. More investments will be done if bitcoin continues this way. Maybe, there was a time that I was thinking of that because potential of both coins are so close to each one. But we never denied that in terms of popularity bitcoin is the most famous, however in payment using token ethereum is the most usable.both coins are usable depending on their usage.

Were you sleeping? ETH is the second coin in market cap, the only coin above is bitcoin, the first cryptocurrency, you cannot ask for more than that, those that want ETH to surpass bitcoin are asking too much in my opinion, ETH has already reached amazing heights.

I have high hopes for eth and i truly believe in its capacity and potential. Maybe eventually, eth will grow like bitcoin but as to its value to reach what bitcoin has reached over a short period of time, that part right there is uncertain. Maybe in a few years but i don't think it will be that easy though. Eth is in a tough position and with so many competitors so they will have a hard time. But there is a window of possibility for such though.

I hope so. Because i also invest in ethereum. Maybe after the bicoin reach the peak, many investors will shift to the other alternative currencies.

I dont think that Ethereum will ever grow nowadays since they are planning to change their road map and making Eth an PoS which will result in investors to leave the coin and this move by the devs is leading the coin to its doom.

When we do see based on their ranks its clear that this would be the next big thing that might able to follow bitcoins path like on its earliest years but yet we cant still be sure and there might be some coins that would able to surpass ETH anytime since we do know that this cryptocurrency world doesn't have a fixed assurance basing on ranking because any coin can possibly surpass each other which means any can follow bitcoin but its clear on our own eyes on who would be the next.

The ammount of corporate support alone will make ethereum boom. If bitcoin doesin't get it's shit together with the transaction fees then ETH might have a shot in the short to mid term. Otherwise it will be years before ETH overtakes BTC, but I think it's one of the only coins that has a chance right now. With that said there many alts vying for ETH's throne.

Directly proportional, here is my opinion and so far it is justified. Ie will never overtake and even catch up with it is already very difficult, and such a hard failure bitcoin is not expected. But you can not argue here, and the price will definitely rise again.

People have talked about this ever since the start of the year. That's why Ethereum went so high so fast around mid-year, but now the hype has died down and there has been no sustained pumps for pretty much 2-3 months now.

I think that it's going to get pumped again soon, when people start talking about it again and it recovers from the dump.

ETH has already solidified its place as the #2 crypto behind BTC, but it will never take over bitcoin's spot as number 1.

I really believe that Ethereum is compatible with Bitcoin, because when I observe ETH, its price increasing fast compared to other Alt coins.

It is impossible to predict what will happen but ETH will certainly develop well in the future and should not compare Bitcoin and ETH because they all have different development communities and they all aim to build the world.

ethereum's already had its growth, and truly insane it was. did you not notice it went from $8 to over $400 this year? bitcoin certainly did not match that. if you're expecting another 8x then you're nuts and you get what might be coming to you.

Well, I believe Ethereum will grow gradually together with Bitcoin, and they will keep up in a long run and I can say these two cryptocurrencies are the best cryptos to invest. But unfortunately Ethereum will still be remained second before Bitcoin. Bitcoin is already a stablished and potentialy tested than the new Ethereum, maybe on a short term Ethereum will close the gap against Bitcoin, but theres no way it can overtake Bitcoins top position.

Ethereum already grow a lot more than many people expected and i really like ethereum but gettin on the same level with bitcoin is completely different story. I don't see any alt coin getting close to bitcoin in value. Bitcoin is on another level.

Actually I prefer ETH than BTC based on its purpose and technology. The major flaws of ETH is, it was used by some people to scam through ICO and airdrops. They abused the power of ETH.

Ethereum has tremendous potential, Ethereum is a decentralized platform that apply smart contracts (applications that can run exactly as programmed without any of downtime, censorship, fraud or third party interference). The transaction time is also very fast, which means it may be used as a legitimate currency one day.

Ethereum is growing nowadays highly and it will keep increasing with time most likely. I am not sure if it will reach the Bitcoin's level, but I have many doubts about that, since bitcoin still the most used and famous crypto currency right now, and it have also tyhe biggest and most actrive community.
However Ethereum have the potential to reach the highest levels soon.

Everyone is actually waiting for Ethereum to grow big just like Bitcoin but it will take time for this coin to grow as much as Bitcoin has grown. Though Ethereum is almost on the level as Bitcoin popularity wise but the demand has yet to be proven.

Maybe this is worded wrongly, the coins that are in the top 10 are not going to change much and the same is true for coins in the top 20 but for coins outside of that top 20 but that are in the top 100, difficult times are ahead since bitcoin seems to be growing stronger every day and a strong bitcoin is bad for altcoins.

Definitely Ethereum is going to be the next big thing. It is an altcoin but the best altcoin at the moment.

Eth has so much potential and it had definitely improved over the last months. But if we are talking about eth reaching the same amount as bitcoin did this year, i think it's quite impossible; it will probably take a year or two although it is not impossible but it will definitely need more time. On the other hand, if we are talking about the pacing of eth growth be the same with bitcoin, i believe that may happen but maybe early next year.

I sure hope it does. I'm starting to move half of my investment into ETH in hopes that it will take off. It's got some great advantages that BTC doesn't have so I'm pretty bullish. The crypto coin hype train continues.

Positively ethereum can do of what have bitcoin did. But when i comes to growth rate, it could be impossible that Ethereum can be equal to bitcoin. Taking a look from the growth rate chart, they are totally far from each other. Although they are far from each other but then, both of them are doing great and the community trust this coins for a long term investment.

There's no doubt ethereum is one of the best performing altcoins in 2017 with soaring price nearing $500 and forecasted to reach the same price by yearend. But ethereum needs more support to overcome bitcoin cash before becoming a contender of bitcoin.

ETh supply is nearly 5 times higher than the supply of Bitcoin, so there is no way that the price of ETH will increase like Bitcoin. I think the price of ETH will reach to more than 1000$ in coming years because already there is big movement in Ethereum we have already seen in the market.

Yes, i think so. Because of price increase of this some of developer of one project is motivated by this. They are motivated to create an idea and also by this more people will help by this like me. I'm only depending on signature's campaign it helps me a lot.

Eth is the total opposite to Bitcoin, so i don't see it growing like Bitcoin at all. ETH is used for gas, that is all. It is not a currency like Bitcoin.

If we compare ethereum with bitcoin ( years chart ) we can see that ethereum evolued faster than btc . First time bitcoin was 500$ in first 4-5 years , ethereum is 470$ almost 500$ in the first 1-2 years . So i think it will be better than btc but we have to wait a lot of time
