Title: Restart mining with a GPU
Post by: mitserdt on November 20, 2017, 02:53:27 PM
I've been mining on and off for a couple of years. I used several dualminers that supported Scrypt. Now I'd like to join the non-asic community and mine new or low difficulty coins to buy BTC, ETH, etc. Just for the fun of mining and trading. I'm from the Netherlands and electricity is expensive here. I've narrowed it down to AMD GPU's from the RX 470/480 range for being effective and power efficient. Do you have other suggestions that would match the scenario I'm describing? So, low power cost and mining new/ease coins. My goal isn't to earn loads of profit, just to have some fun and not breaking the bank when my power bill comes in.

well your goal is common. try to mine monero, zcash or dash. I believe these ones are so far profitable. you may resort to some new crypto, but you have to have a good knowledge and belief in it.

For now, these currencies are on my shortlist, I've seen them in similar scenario's. The thing however, is the power usage. NL is just really expensive. Would you recommend the mentioned GPU's for the coins you listed or would other GPU's be on your shopping list?

well, I'm not sure why, but when I tried mining monero via minergate, my CPU and GPU hashrate was the same. maybe you should try another mining software.
