Title: How many PSUs do you have to get to run 6 or more VEGA?
Post by: ben8jam on November 21, 2017, 04:21:29 AM
The suckers require two pcie vga connectors each. I've got 4 Vegas running on 2 evga 750W psus, but want to add another two. The 1000W evga only has 6 vga ports (which would allow for 3 vega) so 1000+750 would only allow for 5 vega.

Otherwise I have to get a third 750 PSU to support the next 2 vegas. But something doesn't seem right about that.

Even the Cosairs only have 6 vga connectors.

How are all you managing all the connector needs?

Easy man, just buy the server PSU from ebay for $ 50 -70
And add there with your solderer as many connectors as required

This ^^

Could do 6 with a single server PSU. More than 6 possible if you get the 1500W psus.

Youre better off bitting the bulllet an buying a 1600 watt evga, plug and play , it easily has enough
connectors for 6 vega cards, I buy some server psus as a bridge sometimes for my 1000 watt psus to provide
juice to some of the gpus and make the 1000 watt supplies less taxed, but I promisie you its much easier and simpler to power an atx board off an atx psu.

bunch of my 8 card rigs are stupidly unstable using server psus as sometimes when a rig reboots or dies
since the gpu still is reciving full power from the server psu it never shuts down from the error

vegas are far more stable than modded rx cards so thigh might be a non issue

Just get an IBM 2880 on ebay + plenty of PCI-ex cables to crimp  ;D

Those cost more than $50 and aren't designed for datacenter environments.. It's really not hard to buy a server PSU adapter board and plug stuff in.

Yes, I was talking for good server psu like 2KW -2.4KW
For example ibm BB2000, or hp 2450
They all cost almost same, but you have huge power!!
