For example, a thief stole your ethereum
They can't use the Ethereum because made ethereum classic
There is no such thing Etc fork

After DAO disaster millions of ETH where moved towards hacker's address.

Ethereum foundation had decided to fork ETH network and make those hacked ETH unusable by calling new ETH chain as original ETH while the old one was called as ETC.

So basically hackers have millions of ETC right now that is also one of the reason why ETC's price is not like ETH's despite the fact that both have same features.

Currently there is no need or necessity to make a hardfork at etc network. Moreover I've not seen any news about it (may be yet) :)

There is not just one disaster mate, Eth is the mother of disasters, recently hundreds of thousands of Eth were locked by some kill command a coder

Used in a smart contract, we have so many Bitcoin forks, why not having a few Eth, Etc forks while we're at it? refer to Etc main website for information

On any upcoming forks.

i am not really following ethereum development but since ETC is a fork of ETH and ethereum developers implemented the "difficulty bomb" a long time ago before the DAO disaster and the fork, that means ETC has that bomb too which means if i understand correctly it will soon become impossible to mine ETC with PoW just the way ETH is going to be. and they will be forced to do a hard fork and solve it either by removing it or by switching to PoS.

Interesting. Will have to follow up on this to see if there is a new fork in the making.

Seems your friend could be confused with the old fork after the DAO incident like others have suggested.

Why do you think about the fork of Ethereum Classic? It is not the right cryptocurrency that needs it. Probably we will all learn soon about the hard fork of Ethereum, and it might happen this winter.

ETC is having a fork, named ECIP-1017 at block 5 000 000.

Confirmed by ETC devs https://github.com/ethereumproject/ECIPs/blob/master/ECIPs/ECIP-1017.md

However, there will not be any chain split.
So whoever's expecting "free coins", keep on dreaming :D

That fork doesn't exist. As been pointed up on the first answer.

Probably a fake news. I don't think there will be any ETC fork coming.

But ethereum classic is useless, i dont know why a lot of people are always saying that this coin will be worth the same as the real Ethereum has at the moment, because we all know that it is false

So basically hackers have millions of ETC right now that is also one of the reason why ETC's price is not like ETH's despite the fact that both have same features.

the price of ethereum classic has always been manipulated by the miners (the same situation that happened between bitcoin/bitcoin cash, only that a little bit different in this scenario)

But maybe all those spikes that it had in the past were just because of the speculators

And no, it is not going to have a new fork, maybe you said it wrong, Ethereum is going to have a new fork, but we dont know when.

I assume you meant that ETH is a fork of ETC. Since ETC use the original chain.

yes im read about it. you can google it. there will be a fork in late 2017. but i dont think so it will happening. If its true happening there might be a big potential to hold etc cause the value might be increase so much.

ETC is inferior too ETH, that's true. However the same is true for bitcoin, BTC is also inferior to its successor's.
That's how it is in the crypto-market, useless coins sometimes get legendary status because they use the original chains.

Also yes, ETC is going to have a fork at block 5 000 000.
