Title: ZenCash DAG file size
Post by: wxxyz on November 22, 2017, 06:53:38 PM
I've search this site, and Google, and can't find any info.

I assume it's fairly small for now, but wondering how long I can mine with a 2GB or 3GB size GPU.

Can you point me to somewhere that I can find out the DAG file size for ZenCash? Or is there some other method I can use to determine size?

Thanks!

What makes you think that it creates a DAG-file?
DAG-file is used in Etherium.

Dag file is used in ethhash based coins like ethereum/ ETC/Music coin / Expanse etc
Equihash based coins don't have this Dag file , Like Zcash , Zencash , Bitcoin Gold etc
So you don't need to worry about the Dag size if you are gonna be mining Zencash

On a lighter note , anyone Has any date when the ETH Dag file will become greater then 8 gbs?

Great thank-you!

Sheesh, it does seem like a stupid question now that I know the answer - I don't recall learning/hearing that anywhere in my interweb travels so thanks for taking the time to respond.

So is it safe to assume that:
1. there are no limitations on the minimum size of memory needed to mine ZenCash, ZCash, or other equihash crypto?
2. any other ethash cryptos also have DAG files? Or is it an Ethereum specific thing?
3. I am a butcher or fisherman?  ::)

2)  ALL Ethhash coins have a DAG file - I believe that the smallest is in the 1.5 GB range but I might be off on the LOW side as I've not actually looked at all of them.
DAG file usage is part of the algorithm.

1)  The real limitation on other algorithms is the compute capability of the GPU, not the RAM size.
The GTX 1060 is a special case, as the "3GB" model does NOT have the same core count as the "6GB" model - they should be counted as DIFFERENT CARDS and IMO Nvidia is arguably guilty of false advertising by calling those 2 cards the "same model" of GPU.

3)  You are a painter or a carpenter.
