Title: Do you know any wallet that supports SegWit?
Post by: ManaMan on November 22, 2017, 09:13:56 PM
Subject of this topic says it all  :)

Also I would like to use , looking to use, some lightweight wallet. Since I don't feel like having the main client as it needs to sync with the network and will need to in the future.

Thanks all for your answers I appreciate them all !

Would be the best if somebody could list me few of them so I can try them out.

Electrum is by far the best lightweight wallet that supports Segwit atm. The only problem is that they generate bech32 addresses which are current unsupported by almost any major service.

Other than that, I only know about GreenAddress (and Trezor/Ledger Nano S if you consider Hardware wallets).

Okay thank you very much sir, Electrum won't be a big problem I think since you can add and remove private keys in case I need some addresses from BIP form.

And also other wallets that don't have segwit will show coins that have been transferred via it? I mean cuz if some service for instance don't accept segwit and I send them coins I don't want to lose my transaction (I mean they will get coins but won't accept my payment).

It depends on how the wallet software was written. If by SegWit addresses you are referring to the ones that start with 3 then It shouldn't be a problem however, for the ones that start with bc1 you may find hard times. Thanks this guy Carlton Banks really explains it in detail, I was out of the "bitcoin world" for a while so haven't heard about these new addresses. But always good to know, I guess for now I wanna use old ones that begins with "1".
