The long story of evercats.com: Back in college when I first learned from a newfound friend that you could make money on the internet, I explored several options related to my interests and talents. First was a blogger blog on C++ coding with adsense, then came building random silly things such as traffic exchanges and whatnot. After those all tinkered out, I realized that blogging long-term on a subject I was interested in was probably the route to go - thus evercats.com was born. I had 3 cats at the time, and used it first as a blog from their perspective - everything from taking a bath to meeting a new kitten (as seen here: http://evercats.com/2009/08/06/second-day-with-samson/ ). That was fun, but I soon learned that just because you have a website, it doesn't mean people will automatically know to visit it : P. From there I started learning the art of Search Engine Optimization, and began writing 100% unique rich content on all sorts of topics under the sun. These informative articles ranged from a study of feline emotional disorders (http://evercats.com/2009/09/03/feline-emotional-disorders/) to the purpose of cat grass (http://evercats.com/2009/09/24/catnip-and-cat-grass-the-truth-revealed/). The most popular article to this day is still the "How to get your cat out of that tree in 10 steps or less" (http://evercats.com/2009/09/09/get-your-cat-out-of-that-tree-in-10-steps-or-less/). I wrote an article every day for what seemed like months at the time. I was very impatient back then, so when I didn't see a sudden burst of thousands of visitors to the site instantly, I got burned out on it. A year or so later when I checked it's analytics for grins, Google had apparently indexed and ranked most of the articles rather highly, and it was receiving a consistent 200-300 visitors a day - many of which were leaving very personal and detailed comments, creating a wonderful community. This was very exciting to say the least! My goal of having it be a reliable fun source of income was revitalized. That time around, I learned from my previous burnout and thus tried to automate portions of the site and the community that had grown by creating a daily contest system as well as adoptable cat searching. These all provided free content while bolstering the feel of community, allowing folks to see their lovely kittens on display for the world. It worked out very well. The problem - and still my weakness today in every project I start - was in monetizing it. I was deftly afraid of harming the community feel of it by plastering ads all over the place. Whoever lucky person I do hand the site off to, I'm sure won't share that same problem - even tossing Amazon product content dispersed amongst the very specific & keyword-rich posts would probably do wonders. The site just became to personal for me to try : ) It's gone through probably 5-6 custom designs throughout the years (I'm picky, what can I say : P) and has been a development hub for me to hone my skills & explore new tools. I'm very sad to see it go quite honestly. As for my reason for selling: I'm now a father, and with that new lovely child (Brooke) comes bills. While I'd love to continue evercats purely out of respect of a wonderful time, memory, and community - I just need the money now rather than later. Typical scenario where the patient will benefit more than the impatient (me). I've done several site sales before (mostly elsewhere, but here as well) and will obviously help out in getting it installed on whatever host you choose to place it on without any downtime. TLDR (too long, didn't read): evercats.com became a hobby site that grew too big for me to try and change; as a new father I need the money to pay for bills & kid stuff. I tried doing some dirt-cheap adwords advertising in the last 2 months, got some nice visits using these ads (which are provided in the sale): http://evercats.s3.amazonaws.com/250x250.jpg http://evercats.s3.amazonaws.com/300x250.jpg Content Sources The photos are a mixture of user submissions and public images from 5-6 sources (Reddit being a big one) automatically combined into a single RSS feed which I have being scraped every 15 minutes via ifttt.com which are then automatically dumped into my Google Drive folder.
