That's the most general question I've seen here in a while. "altcoin" is about a 1000 different coins and tokens, you better do a whole lot of reading first... As for investment tips... no one has a crystal ball, who knows where this technology will be a year or two from now. You have to read and make your assessments and come back with more focused questions.

You can not tell everything here, you need to learn a lot of information on the network, there are a lot of alternative currencies and some have cool technologies and can move bitcoin

The answer is simple: Invest on both. Diversity your portfolio with Bitcoin and the best altcoins (in your opinion), maybe something like 50/50 and you'll be in good shape whatever happens with the market.

If you say altcoin you are referring to all cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin, When it comes to which cryptocurrency is the best for investment, it would be your education on the subject matter, Take time to research, understand all about blockchain and cryptocurrencies and study how to read trading charts then make your own speculative investment. It also depends on your objectives and risk tolerance, decide if your are going for long term or short term investment or both. If you want to be good at investing or trading you should not ask anyone from here which cryptocurrency is the best to invest now.

lol, i dont know that theres an altcoin called altcoins but i think op is talking about the real altcoins here, which is alternative coins (i.e eth, waves, lisk) yet in my case i would still choose and prefer bitcoins because its obvious that it is much more profitable compared to altcoins.

If dont know about fundamental of altcoin is better just make investment in Bitcoin because this digital currency is more profitable and less risk because in the longterm the price only to going up because.its fundamental so strong. But If you would like to try to make investment too in altcoin, so Ethereum will be the best option.

bitcoin:
  • has solid rise with real adoption all around the world
  • everyone is talking about bitcoin when they think about cryptocurrency
  • bitcoin has real usage as a currency and is actually accepted in real shops.
  • the long term is always rise.
  • there is a logical supply and distribution planned for bitcoin

altcoins
  • they get pump and dumped. there is no solid rise, they go up and then crash in less than a week
  • nobody apart from those who already have bitcoin and want to trade knows about altcoins
  • there is no real usage for any of the altcoins. some like XMR have few use cases but not enough to call them a currency
  • the long term is not looking good for majority of them
  • most of them have huge supply, and weird distributions such as premindes, no cap, big block rewards,...

Funny indeed  :D. Talking seriously, though, this one looks like not a bad choice for daily trading. It has regular price drops and pumps.. But yeah, the trading volume is too small even for that.
Well, op, if you meant bitcoin and the realm of other coins then  you have to decide first whether you want a min risk option with chances to have some profit with time or you want to get more risky but, in case you win, truly get high profit. If you choose the first optin then invest in bitcoin, whereas for the second one you then have to decide whether you want to trade (daily) or make an investment (just buy the coin and wait till its price grows). For trading choose a coin which has solid trading volume (from about $500k) and daily cycles of small drops and pumps. For an investment do some research and choose a coin that looks perspective to you. Good luck!

This question is way too vague. It really depends on your investment timeline and risk tolerance.

Bitcoin still wins the battle here. But it is much easier to invest on altcoins because it has a low price. And also, there are altcoins that looks promising and can become beneficial in the future.

No need to be categorical, looking for balance. When compiling a portfolio I always say that you need to keep a minimum of 50% in bitcoins. The most reliable asset in the crypto world. The remaining 50% can be scattered among altcoins. They give a big yield and risks with them to fail in a few long months on the bottom is very large. Therefore, everyone decides for himself. If you keep it long now though everything will be slowly but to grow

Yay! Why no both ? I mean bitcoin is and will be until the last coined mined is mined, the best investment.
While alts like LTC and DOGE work the same way, they are likely to end up increasing their value in a long term.

If you are not too familiar then just choose Bitcoin because the risk of losing money is lower than investing in alt coin, alt coin got a lot of things to check before you decide to invest and it is not that easy to choose right coin to invest, when you already familiar with crypto currencies then you can choose alt coin, alt coin got a better potential to earn

All these questions about future are really interesting... I think future of crypto overall is a very interesting and important topic.. and I want to learn more about it...
From my experience, I feel that conferences could be a good way to learn. I found this one https://blockshowasia.com/ and I'm thinking to go, but tickets are not so cheap, but I suppose it could worth it... what do you think guys? have you heard about it?

Altcoins are more unstable. You need to be careful, make sure that you do the research required before you invest. Bitcoin, on the other hand, is going very strong.

For the next 30-60 days Bitcoin is going to rule. Definitely break 10k may even approach 20k.

There's a bunch of current favorable "news" coming out for Bitcoin.

There is going to be a surge around January for bitcoin. After which there will likely be a 3k-5k fluctuation in price.

I say be ready to buy more BTC in February.

Lol. I've never heared about this alt and I'm pretty surprised that no one reserved the ALT ticker and name before May 2017 :)
What about the OP: better just buy BTC before you get your own understanding of different alts and how to buy them without listening to anyone.

I believe you should spread your investment into both bitcoin and altcoins. The percentage of each side depends on your profile, with btc being more conservative and alts being more risky (and higher reward in case it succeeds) the lower the market cap they have.

Please pay attention at the leading altcoins (I mean their capitalization). Add to the list Monero, NEO and NEM. Read more about these alts and invest into several of them + BTC. It will be the better decision. And do not forget checking their dynamics https://coinmarketcap.com/
