As with Ledger wallet it provide the option for both as was recommended to moved all from legacy to Segwit. While I don't have a Ledget wallet, it's probably providing an option for you to use SegWit by moving your Bitcoins to a SegWit address. In which case you should definitely do so as to benefit from the numerous advantages that SegWit offers such as a smaller transaction size & probably significantly reduced fees as a result. If the addresses start with 3, then I suggest moving your funds there. If they are like the ones available in Electrum (bc1) then Its better to wait for more people and services adopting it.

Thanks as long it is still the same chain will be ok. Just a bit of confuse when I saw block explorer show only some are segwit and most are not. Worries with the W2X goes away will affect the segwit. Got my answer and thanks. Electrum desktop install gives you the option to install it with SegWit addresses. ;) .... The problem is not all services support SegWit at the moment, so you will have to choose between using legacy addresses for services that support the old addresses and then SegWit addresses for the services/persons that will support that. The SegWit to SegWit tx's are a lot faster and cheaper. ;D Title: Re: store BTC at Segwith or Legacy chain - does it affect anything Post by: Thirdspace on November 25, 2017, 03:37:40 PM The SegWit to SegWit tx's are a lot faster and cheaper. ;D I get the idea of cheaper because of its smaller tx sizebut what makes it faster? wouldn't it get confirmed as fast as legacy addresses as I understand confirmation speed is based on tx fee rate, the higher the rate the faster it gets included in the block so even if segwit smaller size & cheaper fee but if the legacy has the same sat/byte rate, it shouldnt matter or did I miss something here? that might mean you miss out future airdrops that require them if that's your thing. similarly with all these forks, i've no idea whether a segwit address will make claiming them more complicated. i guess that's ledger's job. at the moment i'm too dumb to figure out the other differences so i'll stick with legacy for now until things settle down. |
