Title: Help with Electrum first insallation
Post by: Mabelle16 on November 25, 2017, 04:00:01 PM
Hi

I've installed Electrum 3.0.2 standard wallet and sent 0.006 Btc to it from another wallet for testing.

Why I am getting 4 outputs as follows?   What are the last 3 strings for?

Another question, why Status is showing 936 confirmations? When I first made the txn it was displaying 168.

Thks a lot for your help

This means that the sender has sent several diffretent amounts to different addresses in one transaction.

Here is an example:

Let's imagine that you are taking your coins from an exchange. You request a withdraw of 0.5BTC and the exchange mark your request as "Pending". Some exchanges will send payments in bulk to minimize fees, so they wait until many users request a withdraw and send them all at once. So, the transaction ends up having several outputs:
a. A output of 0.5BTC to your address.
b. A output of 0.15BTC to a random user.
c. A output of 1BTC to another random user.

Another question, why Status is showing 936 confirmations? When I first made the txn it was displaying 168.
This is the amount of confirmations that the transaction has. It's normal to increase with time.

Many thank for your detailed explanation.

Can I take the same opportunity to ask you some more advices? I've been searching, reading, listening 'everywhere' and cannot figure out what happens once my Btcs are confirmed on my online pc.   Do I have to transfer and store the transaction on the pc offline?  I really spent a lot of time looking for tutorials videos forum topics , however could not sort it out.   (I am wondering whether I'd better get interested in something else ;D ;D)

Thks

No, you don't need to transfer the confirmed transaction to your offline PC (if you're using an "airgapped" offline PC setup). All the offline PC is used for is "signing" transactions. When you create a transaction on the Online PC and transfer it to the Offline PC, it'll include ALL the information the offline PC needs ;)

ps. one piece of advice... unless you are super comfortable using "mBTC" aka milliBitcoin units... I would suggest going to "Tools -> Preference -> Appearance" and changing the units to "BTC" and set the decimal places to 8 ;)

NOTE: you may need to close the preferences window and re-open it to be able to change the decimals to 8 ;)
