Title: Best VPN's using Bitcoin?
Post by: John (John K.) on July 01, 2013, 01:44:59 AM
Hey all,

With the recent NSA antics, I'm finally convinced myself to get a VPN before it's too late.  ;) I've looked at a couple of VPN's like PIA (the one sponsoring the forums) and AirVPN, but I'm still undecided. Is there any suggestions you guys can give me here?

Requirements:
- Payable with Bitcoins
- FAST speeds, low pings
- Reliable
- No logging
- Multidevices possible, e.g.: I want to connect my phone and laptop at once.

Hopefully:
- Many servers to choose from
- Asian servers (Singapore/Hong Kong?)
- Price isn't too crazy (But I'm prepared to pay an upwards of $60+ a year if you can convince me it's worth it)

Thanks guys!  ;D

Bitcoin:
http://vpnlab.ru/ (Russia)
http://in-disguise.com/ (Belize)

If you can pay with webmoney
http://www.doublevpn.com/ (Russia)
http://www.vip72.com/VPN/ (Russia)

or you can setup your own.

Might also add to the list where their office/people are located (as in country) ? Could be important to know.

cryptovpn.com (Russia)

Both I've tried and good.

I use AIrVPN for *all of my home Internet traffic and have been happy with speeds and latencies so far. They don't have an automatic way to set up multiple device access, but apparently if you contact them they'll set you up manually with a plan.

* except for encrypted and anonymized traffic like Tor, I2P, and Freenet. There's no point routing those through the VPN.

+1 for cryptovpn, I've also used them before and they accept bitcoin.

ZorroVPN has many locations and you can link servers together along with TOR easily.
Versavpn has PPTP, l2tp and openvpn so you can access on all devices. They also have a good variety of locations but most are in NA or Europe.
Ccrypto is very cheap but they only have 1 server in France.

Those are some of the ones I've tried and liked so far.

The one thing that kills me about having to decide between these services when its VPN shopping time is that if I were the NSA, MI5, Mossad, CIA, etc, I would sprinkle these things around the globe and snoop all the traffic.

Indeed, people using VPN/TOR usually have something to hide. That's what they think perhaps :D

Any PRISM proof VPN's? I don't have anything to hide but I would prefer nobody's watching over me...

You give the information you want, if you say that your name is Jack Sparrow from the Caribbean, that's the information they have to give.

You can read reviews about this service at TorrentFreak, here's the latest:

http://torrentfreak.com/vpn-services-that-take-your-anonymity-seriously-2013-edition-130302/

It was also discussed at Pirate Bay Forum...

They are specialize in protecting people who shares files over the Internet, it is legal in my country, but it is a crime in many countries arround the world, if they don't protect their users identity, they are not gonna make it in this business.  :)

You have to try some servers to find the best speed for you, one server on port 80 might be shitty but if you try that same server at port 443 it might be great.

When downloading torrents I can get up to 4 mb/s, don't remember if got higher than this...

They have PPTP, L2TP and OpenVPN, I only use OpenVPN.

OpenVPN servers at: Canada, Netherlands, New Zealand, Romania, Russia, Iceland, India, Switzerland, USA and UK, you cannot use torrents in the USA servers.

Random check Speedtest.net just gave me 144 ms ping, 5.7 Mbps down / 0.75 Mbps up. Actual speeds are somewhat higher because I was using the connection for other things at the same time.

As far as your PRISM question goes, you can configure OpenVPN to use a SOCKS proxy, which means you can connect to AirVPN via Tor if you want and that is a configuration they support. It does come at a performance cost though.

Accepts bitcoin.  Fast.  Multiple access points across the world.  No logging.

No logging.
The thing about logging is that it's not possible for a VPN provider to prove they don't keep logs, nor can they prove they will never start keeping logs in the future if ordered by a court.

Never depend on a third party not keeping logs. Assume they are logging everything and if that's a problem then protect yourself via other means (connect to the VPN service through Tor, etc).

Had to replace the machine I was using as a router and that gave me the opportunity to test again with an otherwise idle connection. New results are:

66 ms, 23.3/4.0 Mbps

That's true. US does not have data retention laws but gov can get logs whenever they want.
So basically i don't trust US and European countries.

Here is a list of countries that doesn't have data retention laws.

Argentina - No data retention law

Brazil - No data retention law

Bulgaria - Data retention law not applicable to VPN providers

Cyprus - Data retention law declared unconstitutional (?)

Czech Republic - No data retention law (declared unconstitutional)

Hong Kong - No data retention law (?)

Iceland - No data retention period specified (?); good privacy laws

Japan - No data retention law

Luxemburg - Data retention law not applicable to VPN providers

Netherlands - Data retention law not applicable to VPN providers

Panama - No data retention law

Romania - Data retention law declared unconstitutional

Serbia - Data retention law not applicable to VPN providers (?)

Sweden - Data retention law going into effect in May 2012, but (presumably) not applicable to VPNs

Taiwan - No data retention law (?) + seemingly good privacy laws
Ukraine - No data retention law

DONT USE HIDEMYASS

Read this: http://www.cbronline.com/news/security/second-lulzsec-hacker-faces-arrest-following-hidemyass-disclosure-report-270911

For ANY VPN provider or any Internet Security or Web Hosting avoid USA / CANADA / UK / AUSTRALIA / GERMANY / RUSSIA / CHINA

This was clear way before Snowden leak but now it is a fact.

Russia likes to play politics but spys on every one just like any one else dont be fooled.

I recommend using multiple vpn providers combined and would recommend the following:

BolehVPN

Mullvad

AirVPN   Now asks for picture and created a whole profile section with "Likes" "Friends" "Posts" their own internat social media wtf?

Ideally you want VPN provider to accept Bitcoin and not require email address. Sign up through TOR Browser (very hard to pin those logs to you later)
Use http://yourtempmail.com/  Temp Mail over TOR if you must provide an email

Also dont go for cheapest vpn with most features...
Govt Agencies setup and finance project like such to gather intel, so if it seem to good to be true it is.

Use TOR if you gonna do something sketchy and at very least boot in to Trails OS from USB

PS: I ended up testing EarthVPN for 1 month after seeing a few irresistible deals on them (2.99 USD per month if I remember correctly), and am still pleased with the speeds here. I literally forget that I'm on a VPN. :)

Maybe when it expires I'll also try AirVPN (which a few guys recommended to me strongly) here.

Signing up through Tor isn't enough - you need to connect to the VPN via Tor as well.

One should never assume the VPN operators are honest, because despite their best intentions they can be coerced and also forbidden from telling your about it.

From a privacy perspective the reason to use a VPN is to use sites that block connections from known Tor exit nodes.

I've been using AirVPN as well. The only thing that sucks about it is that you can only run one instance on any device at any given time.

ProXPN allows you to run as many instances as you want, provided each is on a different VPN server - but I don't *think* they accept Bitcoin yet.

I use AIrVPN for *all of my home Internet traffic and have been happy with speeds and latencies so far. They don't have an automatic way to set up multiple device access, but apparently if you contact them they'll set you up manually with a plan.

I would stay away from proXPN. I looked into them when they started sponsoring Security Now, here is what I found.  https://twitter.com/proXPN/status/326869677122936833

Their whole attitude toward it was a huge turn off for me.

AirVPN is based in France, PIA looks like a great company, but after Lavabit I am not sure we can trust any US company anymore.  Being based in the US now seems to be a liability rather than an asset.

zorrovpn is what you guys are all looking for
Why's that?

Do a quick search for "zorrovpn" on this forum it was started here and full anonymity in mind, allows you to pay with btc with 0 information gathered.

For email durring signup use yourtempmail.com and tor browser, send coins through mixing service first.

This vpn allows you to create chains of 5 access points as a simple preset for you gui using open vpn protocol.
If really paranoid use another vpn service to initiate the hop as the first point or exit point. Then jump on TOR :)

honestly though if you gonna go crazy like that just use TAILS OS (dont use any vpn just crack neighbors wifi) or Whonix VMbox (with all the above hops)

Also another option is to buy a prepaid 3g modem with fake name and set it up outside your house or apartment on a string in a bag so it does not get wet and connect to that (be sure to charge it once a while too lol) this way connections arent yours ever :)

lol but all that paranoia aside zorrovpn is awesome on its own :)

Oh, I saw that a few days ago but forgot to reply.

That step is optional. You don't actually need to verify the checksum. It's just to make sure that you're not a victim of man-in-the-middle attack when downloading the ISO. In other words, to prevent that someone (e.g. your ISP or an intruder on your local network) is modifying your download stream with malware

the most popular VPN worldwide is I guess hidemyass and it's also payable by bitcoins so it's the best here I guess too :D
also I was wondering, it it says for example that it has 3 Danish Servers and 400 IPs does that mean if you purchase the VPN you can connect to 3 different IPs or 400 of them? :D
I think the 400 IPs might be the number of users using those servers so I'm confused :D
any help would be appreciated  :)

Hidemyass records logs and has already given them away to the feds when they asked for it.

A Switzerland based VPN service would be great (they have a nice and shocking policy on TV reception and redistribution)

It keeps logs longer than any ISP that I know and gives them to the government when asked.

AirVPN is in europe too, Italy to be exact.

can you recommend some good and with a reasonble price?

besides I would only use it to make multi-accounts in one virtual game I play :D

so I just went trought the VPNs myself, and most the VPNs don't have more then 10 countries available, I'm not very much consirned how long do they keep the logs, I'm not hacking anything :D

they have servers in 72 countries, plenty of different IPs from each country

even the small countries which no one would use for anything :D

for example

Uganda --> 125 different IPs

bigger countries of course have more (for example USA 296 servers, 37 742 IP addresses)

this is what I actually needed :D

I bought a 1-month subscription yesterday, I'll probably go for another 6 months later on :)

It's not about hacking, it's about tracking.
And watch out for US-based services. The US law can force VPN providers to log everything and give it to the government without informing the user.

Can anyone recommend a VPN provider that will not block SMTP traffic (secure ports like 587)?

I have been using proxy.sh and a few months ago they started to block port 587. I contacted support several times to let them know the mailservers I need unblocked, but they did not do it.
What's the point of using a VPN if I have to disconnect from it every time I want to send an e-mail and I don't usually use webmail.

What's the point of using a VPN if I have to disconnect from it every time I want to send an e-mail and I don't usually use webmail.

Due to high amount of infected Windows computers and SPAM VPN, providers usually blocks outgoing SMTP connections on the VPN servers.
However Most famous free email services (gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc.) provide their SMTP servers also on SSL port TCP 465 which is more secure and this port is not widely used by viruses for sending spam. If you need to send emails from your email client (Outlook etc.), then just change your SMTP server settings to use SSL SMTP on port 465.

Also I remember purevpn.com enabled smtp port on my vpn account that has dedicated IP so maybe if you contact your provider they make an exception and enable it on your account.

The biggest e-mail provider in Germany, GMX is requiring port 587.
Server: mail.gmx.net
Port: 587
Encryption: STARTTLS

I had logged several tickets with proxy.sh and they were unable to unblock it for me, so now they lose me as a customer.

I will try to double check with some other providers if they allow port 587.

If any VPN providers from the 2014 list could comment, it would be great.

I use AirVPN 99% of the time for 2 years now, think they where 1 of the first who also accepted Bitcoin.

I wouldn't use them for so long as my main VPN and almost route all my internet traffic through it if I wasn't happy with their service and trusted them, they take privacy really serious and also promote the use of Bitcoin for their service. They give great support on their forum and have good guides there, just check the forum and you'll see.

The only problem I have and it's one which is actually not their fault but because of the fact they take privacy so serious also attracts people who do less noble things with their connection which makes the IPs blacklisted a lot and be prepared to fill in a lot of cloudflare captchas. Something I don't have or at least less with other VPNs, but it's a price I happily pay to be safe.

Thanks guys!  ;D

Nordvpn is perfect, check it out

Tor Browser is not a VPN, it's a wrapped version of Firefox portable configured to connect to the Tor Network, routing the traffic on your browser through different nodes.
If you use Tor AND you don't use VPN, your provider will always know that you are using Tor and can potentially block it. They will see your entry node that is listed for the public.
+ some nodes might have been hacked (example by the government or whoever) to get back to you.
So you should always use VPN + Tor.

Have started a new discussion about this topic, where i want really to get a more intenvise discussion about the topic VPN.

Thanks guys!  ;D

nord vpn is the best and secure vpn.i have to use this vpn for my data transferring and making security. so you have to check and use this wallet for your bit coin. express vpn also best vpn it has great demand and these both  vpns has providing security. so you have to use these vpns. vpns not only used for blockchain technology and also we have to use our personal data hide purpose. so check and use these both vpn.if you can also try cyber vpn. those all are good and best vpns for usage.so i would recomanded to this coins.

are there any other options in europe, except Versavpn?
A Switzerland based VPN service would be great (they have a nice and shocking policy on TV reception and redistribution)

https://www.Vip72.com.co (https://www.Vip72.com.co) VPN manages to satisfy the basic needs that users require while surfing the Internet. This full VPN looks for a way to maintain a high performance server that allows you to connect securely.

Another important point, is that https://www.vıp72.com (https://www.vıp72.com) VPN has the ability to bypass the Great Firewall of China, this means that users in that country can access other international servers and thus get to see content that is not available to them.

Users of this VPN have the option to enter P2P sites and exchange files on selected servers. This has generated very good feedback from users, as it is a service that guarantees them quality protection.
