Title: Why do some government ban bitcoin?
Post by: abd000 on November 27, 2017, 10:22:44 PM
China-based cryptocurrency exchange BTCC suspended all domestic trading in yuan last weekend. The decision came on the heels of a September 5 statement from regulatory authorities in China, which required all domestic cryptocurrency exchanges publish closing announcements, stop registering new users, and establish a schedule to cease yuan-denominated trading by September 15. Huobi and OKCoin — two other exchanges based in China — have announced similar plans to stop trading. To be clear: China has not banned the use of cryptocurrencies. It has banned cryptocurrency exchanges and initial coin offerings (ICOs). Even still, it has prompted some to consider whether a government might ban cryptocurrencies like bitcoin — and, perhaps more importantly, whether such a ban would be effective :) :) :)

China has not banned cryptocurrency. They just banned ICO and exchanges. Peer to Peer trading is still available and actually quite popular in China. I don't think there is an effective way for government to ban bitcoin anyway.

Right, government can’t ban bitcoin easily because they need this technology. Government may regulate bitcoin but for them get some taxes, government will find ways just to control bitcoin that can never happen.

I mean, Governments may be interested in crypto and bitcoin, but a major issue comes with how it's being used. For all they know, it can be used for illegal purposes and that may scare the governments because it leads to a dangerous country. However, another reason that bitcoin makes governments nervous is that it can be used to dodge fees and taxes that go straight to them to fund their own projects and whatnot. It makes sense that they're nervous about it, but I believe that there are better solutions that they can come up with.

I personally do expect some upcoming discussion in Europe soon because of the energy consumption due to mining. Specially from the axis Germany - France we could get some resistance / pressure. And honestly, although I‘m a cc fan, I can understand the discussion. But I hope it will end in the promotion of energy saving mining approachs (for example via sun energy) instead of any general ban / restrictions.

I am uncertain where all this will go.  In a very general sense BTC could approach becoming a global currency.  Not absolute for now, but when general acceptance spreads more it will have the effect of appearing worldwide in dominance.  Clearly, countries with crumbling fiat are seeing that BTC is propping up investors in huge numbers.  There are countries where the fiat you hold is becoming mostly worthless as the days go by.  The countries controlling those terrible fiat bills absolutely don't want to see BTC take over in their countries.  And yet, if I had access I bet the Gov officials from those very places are buying BTC to cover their A**.

First, any link in this news so we can validate?

On topic, it is just natural for a government to ban or at least limit cryptocurrency in their country. Governments are all control and protecting their interest. If cryptocurrency, particularly bitcoin, is weakening yuan in china, their government is just acting on it that is why they want to close exchanges.

But bitcoin cannot be stopped by that. Users can just swich to decentralized trading platforms and evade those bans. Bitcoin is decentralized and cannot be easily stopped.

they can't totally ban bitcoin but they can do some things to prevent people from using it publicly for example , simply because they aren't profiting from it
so they ask exchanges to stop accepting traders from that area and maybe prevent local stores from accepting bitcoin , but in general no government can totally ban crypto

it's just like gambling where you can find some countries are totally ok with gambling while others are totally strict

I think one reason why bitcoin is being ban by some government in some countries is because, it can be used in some illegal activities like buying illegal guns, drugs, hiring a hitman and many more. Because of that capability of bitcoin, the crime rate of a certain country may increase thats why some government are against it.

Government bans bitcoin because it is a big threat for their financial security. government controls the money flow in their country (interest rate etc..). bitcoin is different, no one controls bitcoin no government or group of people. it is purely decentralized.

Like most other people have said in this thread, I think they ban it because they're afraid of it. They're afraid of this technology overtaking their own national currency. And what do you do when the government itself runs out of money? It's scary to think about. They wouldn't have control over anything much less anyone. You'll see soon governments try to regulate these crypto coins and we'll see how far they can get with that.

I think to ban the bitcoin trade it is necessary to think very hard decisions, bitcoin currency is not controlled by the rules of a country, and bitcoin is very useful for the crowd, should not bitcoin forbidden, but to be developed with the advancement of advanced technology to simplify public welfare.

No. If they really then they should have banned it along with banning crypto-exchange and ICOs. What does this imply? It simply means that they recognize the opportunities that the crypto industry is giving. If they ban it, automatically the mining farms there would shut down hence the money pouring in to their country would reduce and it would be a waste. Stict KYC is the key.

No, China has not banned Bitcoin, they just ban the ICO. They make a decision to ban ICO because so many ICO became a scam and steal money from the investors. I think it's a good policy for their country and i agree with China government, they must save the people before something bad happened to those people.

Everything is having an issue as to how they are used. It is not just Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency for that matter. As we look at the current situation, fiat money is widely used for so many illegal activities. Fiat is the one fueling drugs, terrorism, guns, alcohol, and so on and so forth. All these happened even before Bitcoin was invented. And even before fiat was invented, silver and gold were also used to support illegal activities. It is not on what really. Everything is on how.

A Bitcoin banned state must be for a good cause. For example, a country forbids Bitcoin one of them to avoid the many free investments in the high-risk Crypto world. And again the government is also not responsible for the loss of crypto currency assets.

They have a different kind of how the government works and it seems like they didnt like people having free will to control their money or have privacy. Transparency is what they want so that they can tax everything you own or have a share of it.
That could be one of the main reason.

It is not impossible that China wants to create its own cryptocurrency that can be government legality. During this time many things are banned in China, in the end they make their own.

the government does not want to increase the level of crime because often bitcoin is associated with negative things such as illegal transactions and money laundering. Therefore why the government forbids the use of bitcoin. But actually bitcoin is not monitored directly by the government because bitcoin is not owned by any country so the government does not control bitcoin. It's just a bank that may issue rules about bitcoin in a country.

Reason why other countries are so skeptic when it comes to bitcoin is because of the fact that they can't control it. If Bitcoin will be fully implemented in the future then governments will not have control on the currency that is being used in their countries and they hate that.

Title: Re: Why do some government ban bitcoin?

The reason is simple, they can monitor you but can't interfere with your business and Bitcoin makes it difficult for them even to track your activities. However, understand that governments can not ban bitcoin in any way due to an advanced technology model based on the blockchain. They can only prevent us from doing any Bitcoin-based business and convert Bitcoins into fiat currencies and vice versa. However, in the case of a Bitcoin-friendly market environment (which is on the way and taking its shape), there is no need to convert Bitcoin in any other currency to spend it.

Yes, maybe that is the best reason. In my country, bitcoin is not prohibited but also not officially accepted. Government regulate the use of money, people in my country only can use IDR as medium of exchange. I don't know why this regulation is created but there must be a good reason for this.

The main reason is the lack of control. At the moment, governments of all countries are not able to track transactions made with the help of crypto currency. Hence, there are other reasons. Mining requires a lot of energy, at the same time, there is no legislative base that regulates energy consumption, taxation. And, of course, this is an excellent opportunity for terrorists and scammers to commit their dirty deeds, which is unacceptable.

There is one major reason that's why many governments are ban the bitcoin in their country like the economy will be shifted to the digital currencies and the people will have no physical money to be sure of their wealth. The other reason is the taxes if the money is digital then there will be no check and balance of the transactions of the people. So the governments is not allowing digital money in their countries.

Government ban bitcoin because they see it as illegal money and because of its anonymity it's hard to know where it came from. So they think that it can be use to scam people and the least that they can do is release an order that bitcoin is illegal.
And thinking with this it makes me laugh that government is just so narrow minded and just see the the one side of the story.

Bitcoin unfortunately has been linked with the silk road and it's where it got it's reputation from. Therefore governments ban it due to the things that it was linked with. Also they can't regulate it easy and can only tax it when converting bitcoin into fiat currencies. They don''t profit from you holding bitcoin at all.

Bitcoin transactions are only done by both parties who collect Bitcoin, there is no other party to arrange it. The government has difficulty controlling the development of bitcoin, no income tax from bitcoin transactions. different from other currencies. So the government banned bitcoin in his country. The related government should quickly find a solution, because bitcoin will continue to grow and many people benefit from bitcoin.

Hi there abd000! I think the problem in some country is that bitcoin can’t be controlled by their government and if there are something that can’t be controlled it could definitely be rouge and create damage to the economy. In terms of bitcoin in China, I think that is also the reason behind, and to protect it’s citizen. However, China always want to create their own, thus, bitcoin is included on those lists. But rumors said that China is preparing a good regulation about cryptocurrencies, and will then open it’s door again to crypto.  ;)

They hates bitcoins because its hard to trace transaction. Many if not all criminals use bitcoin to sell drugs because they know people can't reach them. That's the reason why some government banned the use of bitcoin on their country. Another possibility is its volatile nature .People like to invest if its stable and there 0% tax applied. Government know if their people start using bitcoin they won't pay tax.

There are several circumstances in which regulation or banning could come into play, each of which has certain drawbacks from the standpoint both of consumers of Bitcoin and regulators. There are certain ventures within the Bitcoin community which involve cooperation with mainstream banking entities, something that effectively "regularizes" the currency. This, which allows both easy entry and high volume transactions, also is the easiest to regulate, since banks are forced to be compliant with a great number of regulations. In this sense, the more normalized and regularized certain aspects of the Bitcoin economy become, the more vulnerable it is to regulation.
-------------------------------------------------------------
The other tactic is to target Bitcoin partners, all of which by necessity have some sort of address (both literal and virtual). For example, large Bitcoin users like Silk Road could be aggressively targeted by law enforcement via raids and and confiscation of servers, etc. A second tier could be Bitcoin exchanges, suspected on account of being vehicles for money laundering (these charges are what led to the demise of previous digital currency companies DigiCash and E-Gold).
-------------------------------------------------------------
Actually banning Bitcoin is also a possibility. As noted by some Bitcoin experts, it is also possible that a nation-state could dedicate enough computing power to "break" Bitcoin. It could presumably ban Bitcoin as well, but again many things currently traded within the Bitcoin community (i.e. drugs) are also banned -- the more tricky thing is to determine what governments can actually enforce.

A governmental body in any jurisdiction would be fairly limited in their options to eliminate bitcoin. They may be able to regulate and hinder the two-way convertibility with political currencies but that is more of a conversion issue rather than an attack against bitcoin transactions directly. Practical elimination of bitcoin would therefore require shutting down the telecommunications infrastructure that facilitates the peer-to-peer technology of the distributed block chain. Perversely, this action would hinder the rest of the e-commerce activity that occurs online. :-\

Banning Bitcoin would be similar to banning Tor or P2P. They can't ban it. Governments would have to track each connection and have spying software everywhere.
If someone would make Bitcoin illegal, probably all other virtual currencies would have to be treated same. That means any shops vouchers, points or video games currencies would have to be illegal. Each of those is virtual and potentially worthless (not represented by material goods).
If they don't ban all virtual currencies, there'd be quickly next currency similar to Bitcoin - 1 line of code added, name changed (i.e. Bitmoney). Hey, it's completely new currency! That doesn't matter that it has same rules as Bitcoin.

Bitcoin isn't evil as P2P isn't either. That are tools. People decide how to use them.

China has not banned cryptocurrency. They just banned ICO and exchanges. Peer to Peer trading is still available and actually quite popular in China. I don't think there is an effective way for government to ban bitcoin anyway.

Why not effective? Its effective to make the price downfall.
You can see the price down when china ban ico although not so deep.
Imagine if more and more country ban bitcoin and what will happen?

I would say that governments only ban Bitcoin out of sheer stupidity and let me elaborate on this stupid behavior in more detail.
1. Governments are in fear mode and in no way do they want to lose a grip on controlling their subjects.
2. Governments do not like change because most of the times they are corrupt. Bitcoin technology would render corrupt governments useless.
3. Banks work with Governments and they want to keep all the profits form trading and monetary issues for themselves and they don't like to share.
4. They think that most of us are stupid so if they see us all waking up, they know their time is over and they don't like that at all.

There are many other reasons why governments ban Bitcoin I would need to write a book to elaborate.  :)

Governments cannot control bitcoins that is why they see it as a threat to the economy. Bitcoin market is a free zone to invest and earn money, and they have no access to control it. They might think that it could be used as a tool against their govenment that is why they are trying to eliminate it in their countries.

Government ban bitcoin because they are threaten. Since bitcoin is a decentralize peer to peer network. The system doesn't require a third party in which the result would be losing its power to contol. With the presence of bitcoin, banking system will be irrelevant. It may dissolve the banking system. Lastly, tax on bitcoin (in my country) is not yet imposed by the government. If that's the case, the government benefit from bitcoin investments.

they can't totally ban bitcoin but they can do some things to prevent people from using it publicly for example , simply because they aren't profiting from it
so they ask exchanges to stop accepting traders from that area and maybe prevent local stores from accepting bitcoin , but in general no government can totally ban crypto

it's just like gambling where you can find some countries are totally ok with gambling while others are totally strict
Countries with underdeveloped economies have banned Bitcoin from operating in the country, and in my state, they also banned Bitcoin because they did not want people to participate in it. Many countries like India do not wish Bitcoin to affect the economy of the country, and they want to ban the Bitcoin

I think some government ban it because bitcoin don't have tax. They are also afraid that someday bitcoin will change our money and there's a possibility that bitcoin can make our bank disappear. Others say that our government can't control bitcoin so that they banned it in our country.

As far as we all know our government controls every establishments, companys and all about business matter involving in labor system. They earn income from it in their tax contribution. Not like bitcoin a so called crypto currency, even single piece they can't gain any form of taxation. That is why they are calling it scam and pursue to ban for they were not able to control upon this matter.

the government does not want to increase the level of crime because often bitcoin is associated with negative things such as illegal transactions and money laundering. Therefore why the government forbids the use of bitcoin. But actually bitcoin is not monitored directly by the government because bitcoin is not owned by any country so the government does not control bitcoin. It's just a bank that may issue rules about bitcoin in a country.
Actually some people want to use their people for his own work in order to collect tax from them because tax is playing a very good role in revenue of any country but I don’t agree when some countries will be ban bitcoin I believe if they accept bitcoin in their countries so it can also play a very big role in their economy which can improve their economy and also it can reduced unemployment in these countries so they must accept bitcoin.
I think the government forbids bitcoin because they do not get income tax from bitcoin, while bitcoin users get very much money from bitcoin. even though the government forbids bitcoin but nobody minds and they continue their work.

Government is The body with the power to make and/or enforce laws to control a country, land area, people or organization. However the Government wanted to regulate bitcoin, is impossible, they can't controll it, but the only thing they can do is banning the organization, group of people in a certain country. And issuing a regulation in using Bitcoin.

Bitcoin - and other decentralised cryptocurrencies - allow people to trade directly with each other, cutting out the need for a middleman which, in traditional commerce, is a bank.

And unsurprisingly, banks aren't happy about being made obsolete and - with help from governments - are trying to clamp down on cryptocurrencies after initially dismissing them out of hand.

Government can't control bitcoin and other cryptos. Bitcoin and cryptos can directly trade without the government in between. Imagine buying something without the government knowing it, so it means no tax and government hates it when they have no tax money. That is one of the reason why the government are against bitcoin and crypto cause they can't control it.

They wish to get some tax from it, some extra cash and additional income for them to attain some money on their pockets. They will not shut down Cryptocurrency in their country because of the internet they need, So they just Ban some of its features but not all of them.

Quite a number of countries ban the bitcoin and the cryptocurrency market because they largely don't understand the principles under-girding it hence more of speculative or outright down putting of the market, the method and the digital currency is done by the naysayers. Another reason can stem from the greed and the avaricious nature of the officials who are supposed to correctly guide the decision makers fall into these nefarious tendency of taking bribes in order to speak contrary to the nature of bitcoin, thereby setting their people and economy on a journey to extinction and poverty.

Bitcoin is uncontrollable, it can not be taxed, it is peer-to-peer no governing party in between, it is untraceable and the list goes on. Some government are scared because they think of the fact that they might be overrun by the power of Cryptocurrency and may lead into further conflict inside the country. China is a very business minded country in which you can see every Chinese owns at least one business that they run and gain profit from this industry. Bitcoin may become a asset for some Chinese people if they know how to utilize the use and use it carefully and not abusively. Maybe this is why some country bans Bitcoin or other Cryptocurrency but if they set rules and regulations about this matter, then maybe everybody can profit from the Cryptocurrency Industry.

In the age of paper money, the cost of printing money was negligible, and the government had a monopoly on printing money, so it was able to get all the seigniorage.

The government can buy any assets, goods and services by printing them without cost, so they are a very important income for their government. It would be unthinkable for the government to give up the revenue, and the virtual currency such as bitcoin.

In fact, no government has any reason to let that happen.

I think it is related to the security reasons.
The government see bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies can use anonymously,
so they cannot track the users that use cryptocurrency.

First of all, I think they ban it because they are afraid of it. Secondly, security reason - it can be used in some illegal actions or activities. And of course they don't have any profits from it as bitcoin do not have any tax.

For me the main reason is that the government is afraid of Bitcoin, they can't control it and track it. It is difficult to implement tax on bitcoin, so they don'y have any profit and for government it's completely unappropriate

Because it has no formal basis and regulatory authority, bitcoin is prone to be misused for illegal transactions, money laundering, bitcoin circulation as well as being illegal as it is unreachable to the Central Bank. This could potentially lead to markup or bubble. Therefore, the transaction of speculative virtual currency values. not only harm the community later, such transactions can also disrupt the stability of the state financial system.
i do think those were the reasons why some of the countries banned bitcoin while some are still planning to implement such laws. Whether it will be legalized or not, they must first examine and study how and what will be the effects during and after legalization of bitcoin to a certain country.

Perhaps one factor that affects a country forbidding bitcoin is that a country does not impose a tax on bitcoin, so there is no additional income to the country. Hopefully the future in all countries can legalize bitcoin.

I don't think the banning of the cryptocurrencies would be more effective and the best option i think we should be applying is that we better make some ways to manage those crypto coins because crypto coins cannot be banned suddenly and also banning cannot give you ways to stop the bitcoin trading in your country. For complete ban, you need to stop the internet around your country which is not possible and so you better make some way to manage them with tighter security.

Government - is the power and control. Everything new is always perceived by people as a threat. Bitcoins are difficult to control, more precisely, almost impossible. It is very difficult to track payments. According to the Central Bank, the anonymity of the bitcoin system makes it a convenient tool for money laundering and terrorist financing. It's easier to forbid something and block it than to adapt to the new one.

many influences from chinese countries but many countries support bitcoin investments :
Japan
Japan in April 2017 began receiving Bitcoin as the legal currency. Then the electronic retail giant, Bic Camera accepts payments using Bitcoin one week after the cryptocurrency is passed.

Quoting CNBC, Bitcoin's trading using the Japanese yen is the second most liquid after the United States dollar (US). It was mentioned by a trading platform of Gatecoin cryptocurrency.

"The act of legalizing the Virtual Currency in Japan has the potential to have a big impact, because there have been many rumors about Bitcoin's endorsement," Gatecoin Founder and CEO Aurιlien Menant said as quoted by CNBC, Friday (8/9/2017).

United States of America
The US is the number of countries that use the highest cryptocurrency in the world. Citing bitcoin.com is reflected in the high trading volume of Bitcoin.

The high volume of trading occurs due to the support of Silicon Valley which is home to thousands of start-up [Suspicious link removed]panies. The US also has the largest number of Bitcoin ATM machines in the world. The country has always been a leader in digital money.

Denmark
Not only become the most technologically advanced country. Denmark is also the most vigorous country in encouraging the elimination of cash and using digital currency.

Although friendly against the use of Bitcoin, the Danish financial authorities belim recognize Bitcoin as the official currency. But Bitcoin remains usable, because Denmark is home to a number of cryptocurrencies.

South Korea
South Korea today can be regarded as the world's largest technology producers call it very famous products such as Samsung and LG.

The country has the highest smartphone penetration and mobile payment rates in the world, not surprisingly South Korea is rapidly embracing Bitcoin as both an investment and payments or money changers.

Citing bitcoin.com, Bitcoin services are considered safe by using Korbit. In South Korea, people can also buy Bitcoin at 7-Eleven outlets all over Korael.

The country has also hosted a regular Bitcoin conference and has created a friendly climate for the Bitcoin user community.

Finland
Like its neighbor Scandinavia, Finland is also one of the leading countries in terms of technology. The country has also exempted taxes for the purchase of Bitcoin.

Finland already has a very large number of ATMs to meet the needs of the country. From the coinATMradar this country is the most Bitcoin exchange place.

In January 2016, Bitcoin was used to buy a Tesla S series car for € 140,000.

This could be as a result of the fact that At the moment, governments of all countries are not able to track transactions made with the help of crypto currency. Hence, there are other reasons. Mining requires a lot of energy, at the same time, there is no legislative base that regulates energy consumption, taxation. And, of course, this is an excellent opportunity for terrorists and scammers to commit their dirty deeds, which is unacceptable.

Hence the government ban on Bitcoin as they dont have control over it and it is somewhat making the citizens to be at liberty without the government's interference.

Simple, China wants to ban bitcoin because they want to be in control. They want to replace USA and be the dominant country. And since Bitcoin is decentralized, they cant control it. For example, the islands that they are stealing are not even near their country. I mean if you will just use your eyes and check the world map why would China even try to get these islands far away from them. They are hungry for power and that's why they ban Bitcoins, they can't control it.

The main reason due to which government ban bitcoin is it's decentralized nature. As Bitcoin is decentralized in nature so no government or bank is able to control the transactions made through Bitcoin.Due to which the people involved in the transactions remain unidentified. This make the Bitcoin transactions anonymous. Some people uses this feature of anonymous transactions in a wrong way. They know that they will not be identified so they use Bitcoin as a mode of payment for illegal dealings of drugs, ammunitions etc. This forces the government to take decisions against Bitcoin.

Governments circulates money in a society, in order to stay in power, so they tax the public servants, investors and corporate bodies etc.

Cryptocurrencies undermine most monetary policies of governments. For instance,

1. Governments cannot print money to indirectly tax savings.
2. Governments cannot control the exchange and interest rates

Cryptocurrencies undermine fiscal policies of governments. For instance,

1. Governments cannot readily check your current holdings, revenue of their tax base.
2. Governments cannot freeze or seize the cryptocurrencies.
3. Governments cannot track allegiance og the currencies.

They are locked onto thinking that once bitcoi  was implemented as a global currency this means death of the currency and the conomy of these countries.

This news has already been done. China including India already banned any bitcoin business and bitcoin related transactions. They do it because bitcoin is a decentralized currwncy which means noone can control it, even the government. With that mentioned, they fear what they cannot control and if not controlled, all that is left to do is eliminate. However, bitcoin is strong enough to withstand that banning in some countries and managed to stay on the top.

Probably because they could not get total control over it. We all know that governments love to take control of anything that generates profit. And Bitcoin surely is one of those things. And so they come up with strategies to regulate, control, manipulate, or have total control of the crypto system. Something that is quite difficult to accomplish even for governments. And so they would resort to banning Bitcoin or the entire system so that no one would benefit from it.

The moment they realize another entity (especially one that is completely independent) is threatening their existence, they will crack down on it.

Reason is simple, when our government looks at bitcoins, they are incapable of tracing any person or
company holding responsibility for Bitcoin not only in their jurisdiction, but in the entire planet!

Legal Implication : In order to recognise any medium as authorised payment and settlement system,
they should have proper licences from Reserve/Central Bank of the respective country.
So that government can ensure all the preventive measures against fraud , money laundering and any antisocial activity .

When a case is filed against Bitcoin, not the people transacting bitcoins, inside the jurisdiction,
governments cannot be able to perform their legal obligation to the society !

This is the first part that makes the government to take hostile approach to crypto-currency.

Governments control fiat currencies. They use central banks to issue or destroy money out of thin air,
using what is known as monetary policy to exert economic influence. They also dictate how fiat currencies
can be transferred, enabling them to track currency movement, dictate who profits from that movement,
collect taxes on it, and trace criminal activity. All of this control is lost when non-government bodies create their own currencies.

I think Bitcoin is uncontrollable, it can not be taxed, it is peer-to-peer no governing party in between, it is untraceable and the list goes on. Governments must have control over the things that happen in their territory, whereas Bitcoin is not allowing them to have this privilege, thus they are banning it.

Just like what other said government accept only bitcoin when they put a tax on it  but everyone against in that because in the first place bitcoin doesn't have tax so who are they to put it. They also saw that there's a chance that bitcoin can replace our real money so that they didn't want it to be legal in their country.

Governments have different policies governing their countries finance related activities. some favor bitcoins while others don't, those who doesn't support BTC has since come up with reasons such as the fact that its independent and therefore free of any controlling institution making it difficult to trace its transactions and tax it, the main claim here is that the governments are therefore denied a chance to earn revenue from taxes, some claim its crime oriented a criminals use it to make illigal transactions hence the ban

Governments are controlling and protecting their interests, and some governments can do something to prevent people from openly using bitcoin.

Managers across the globe are not afraid of virtual money being abused for the purpose of money laundering and other malicious purposes of criminals. They are also worried about the impact on their financial system in the event of a burst of Bitcoin bubbles and the resulting bad effects.

Bitcoin price increases of up to 1,300% last year made many economists, investors and bankers worry about a large fraud.

Because bitcoin has no formal basis and regulatory authority, bitcoin is prone to abuse for illegal transactions, money laundering, and financing of terrorism. There is affirmed, all transactions conducted in the territory of NKRI must use rupiah currency. The circulation of bitcoin is also illegal because it is not reachable by the Central Bank. This has the potential to cause bubble. Therefore, the transaction of speculative virtual currency values. Not only harm the society later, such transactions can also disrupt the stability of the state financial system.

Yes because Bitcoin can be juxtaposed with fraudulent MLM. The exchange rate bitcoin indeed continue to soar, but unfortunately the number is limited. There are only 21 million bitcoins to be contested by users around the world. Not to mention the bitcoin can only be obtained by deciphering complicated mathematical code that can not be done directly by humans.

For this reason, miners can easily sell bitcoins at high prices to those who are tempted by virtual investments. Moreover, many circulated stories about someone who managed to double the bitcoin that he bought several years ago.

In fact, India's Ministry of Finance calls bitcoin a ponzi scheme. This means a fake investment mode that promises to double profits.

Ponzi schemes often exist in cases of fraudulent MLM impersonation. The profit that investors get is actually the money of others who just invest, not the benefits of business or business management as promised.

This has a resemblance to the bitcoin investment chain. With a limited amount of bitcoins, each virtual money owner will resell it at a higher price. Meanwhile, the other buyer is a new player in the world of bitcoin investment that will also sell the money in the future.

Right, government can’t ban bitcoin easily because they need this technology. Government may regulate bitcoin but for them get some taxes, government will find ways just to control bitcoin that can never happen.

Several other reasons why some government banning bitcoin is try to avoid illegal use  by people. It can be used to buy weapon, drug, terrorist funding and money laundry. These transactions are difficult to be traced by the government. It is not expected also that local currency is influenced and become unstable.

Bitcoin helps a lot of those good people living in a community and only few are making illegal, Maybe government will see the good side that bitcoin can bring to its people.

The case in china they just put a ban on things related to cryptocurrency to regulate it. The government cannot fully ban cryptocurrency and bitcoin because its something huge and cannot grasp whole. Bitcoin is a currency that pose a threat to governments that's why they try to control it, it also can be a way to conduct underground activities which the government cannot supervise. Bitcoin is gaining popularity and is a huge help for many and governments cannot seem to accept that, that's why they put regulations because they cannot ban it.

Yes they can not really ban Bitcoin but they can do some things to prevent people from using it publicly for example, just because they do not benefit from it so they ask for an exchange to stop receiving merchants from the area and possibly prevent the local store from receiving Bitcoin. But Bitcoin can not be stopped by it. Users can only switch to a decentralized trading platform and avoid the ban. Bitcoin is decentralized and can not be easily stopped.

The reason why the government forbids bitcoin because the bitcoin system is decentralized, so the government can not control or impose a tax on ownership of bitcoin.

At the same time government doesn't have any income through bitcoins, since they cannot charge taxes from bitcoin and its transactions. Also bitcoin can be used for terrorist activities, since those moneys doesn't have any central authority

The plausible reason why the government forbids bitcoin is that the government does not want other currencies to use for its people other than their respective national currencies and they feel that bitcoin poses a threat to the economy of the country so they think bitcoin will create destruction for the national currency in the country. Such governmental thinking would be different if they tried to accept bitcoin as another currency option for their community use. With their prohibition asserting that the government does not accept the technology created as a solution to the problems of the existing economy.

Government bans bitcoin because it is a big threat for their financial security. government controls the money flow in their country (interest rate etc..). bitcoin is different, no one controls bitcoin no government or group of people. it is purely decentralized.

Government bans bitcoin because it is decentralized, direct tax cannot be implied and also it gives privacy to the users which makes the transaction private which can be used in illegal things and to avoid that government bans bitcoin.

Although bitcoin has a good rate it is risky and dangerous to invest and to be involved into it because if you have bitcoin you might lose at any time. Also bitcoin might remove some government jobs because it has a big potential of being the future currency and might as well take over the currency that countries give. Despite the fact that it is banned to other countries desperate investors still invest because of the high rate because they know how to control bitcoin.

Bitcoin, like any other electronic currency, can be used for money laundering or tax evasion. The system does not have a control center, so it will not be possible to appeal or crank the transaction in reverse. This is why Bitcoin has been banned in many countries.

Its very simple. Bitcoin is a decentralised currency, most of the governement wants to be in control of their currency which bitcoin does not allow. Its also a tax free transaction which the government do not support.

The problem is that it "encroaches" on sovereignty, the ability of special bodies to control financial flows.

I think some governments try to ban Bitcoin because they want full control of the financial transactions of their citizens, and also they want to support only their fiat and local currencies.
But they are falling, because Bitcoin is decentralized and people can trade it as long as they have Internet connection and some basical knowledge.

No government never want something in their country which they cannot control. And in bitcoin is more likely that thing. Many government mainly ban it because bitcoin affect their economy growth. Bitcoin user doesn't pay tax their country which ultimately affect their financial status :o. And some time Bitcoin affects their country  currency in both direct or indirect way. In some country like Israel they ban bitcoin because it associate with many criminal activity like kidnapping, Anti money laundering, etc. So here some reason behind ban bitcoin in some countries.  :-*

incidents happen regularly everywhere, where the government simultaneously tries to limit crypto-currencies and maintain a rating among the electorate. Considering the fact that more and more representatives of the electorate are beginning to be interested in crypto-currencies, sooner or later officials are in a situation where one can not sit on two chairs and you have to choose - either to explicitly prohibit crypto-currencies or to allow. The prohibition of crypto-currency at the state level: is it necessary? ;)

I think it depends on what kind of government you are living in, like in our country we are in democratic form, so people has the full rights, the only thing is that bitcoin is not yet popular in lower market that's why the government is prohibiting the use of bitcoin, but if bitcoin starts to invade the lower market the government will eventually allow using it.

Government are afraid on bitclin because it can be use in illegala activities like buy and sell or trading of guns, drugs and etc that will be a big threat tonour government because it can cause increase of crime ratws and terrorism.

And what they are afraid of is because some authorities have taken bribes and moved from cash to BTC to hold. That is why they are afraid of BTC development in their country. And they are afraid that the banking system in the country will be frozen, as investors poured capital into Crypto.

They do this because they can't control bitcoin, ICO and getting taxes from crypto. At the moment there is no necessary legislation to effectively regulate crypto and protect people from scam. I hope we will see a solution to this issue in the near future and China will be able to fully return to the market.

The major reason is because, Bitcoin is uncontrollable, it can not be taxed, it is peer-to-peer no governing party in between, it is untraceable and the list goes on. Governments must have control over the things that happen in their territory, whereas Bitcoin is not allowing them to have this privilege and have the control they want over it.

Bitcoins and other virtual currencies are especially worrisome to the authorities, because such payments are extremely difficult to track - transactions are negotiated between buyers and sellers who may not even know each other's names. No banks and payment systems record their personal data and do not issue at the request of law enforcement agencies.

I think even though I'm a fan, I can understand the discussion. But I hope this will end in the promotion of energy-saving mining approaches (eg through solar energy) rather than general restrictions / restrictions.

Some governments are banning or banned bitcoin because they simply cannot regulate or control it. Bitcoin is virtual currency and provides financial freedom, decentralization and privacy to its users. These things are opposites of the governments policy thats why they are trying to banned bitcoin.

Governments that banned bitcoin are those dont want there people to grow financially. Bitcoin is a natural enemy of the government. In addition to speculators, the faithful are mostly liberals and anarchists.

I think such responsed occurs not because of the lack of understanding, I believe they know it fully, the very reason of banning btc is because they can't find a way to control it.

Money transfers made with Bitcoin and other coins can not be tracked. The governments are against it because it is not clear who they are going to. Terrorist organizations are also believed to have transferred money in this way. Because the crypto money market is blockchain-based, they are laundering money. This is also the most important reason for governments.

I think one reason why bitcoin is being ban by some government in some countries is because, it can be used in some illegal activities like buying illegal guns, drugs, hiring a hitman and many more. Because of that capability of bitcoin, the crime rate of a certain country may increase thats why some government are against it.

Government ban bitcoin because they dont hold on it. As this moment ,government cannot control bitcoin. Bitcoin is also currency only that it is digital. They might afraid that cryptocurrency has a big impact on the government , so the only solution they think to stop any possible challenge they encounter is to ban bitcoin.

Some governments banned bitcoins because they did not really understand bitcoin. They do not know the benefits that bitcoin brings to the cryptocurrency market. Most undeveloped countries are not using bitcoin. I think they should join the cryptocurrency market in order to grow even further.

Governments ban it because they can not control it. They are trying to get rid of it in any way they can, when there is something they can not manage. Now, the only thing they can do: ''ban''.

There are many country's government already accepted the Bitcoin as their currency. On the other hand, some government ban this.In my opinion,I want to say against this matter that in this forum government can't handle this because this forum totally handled by forum staff and moderator.Forum don't give any tax or vat for using this. That's why government don't get anything from it.Its transaction system is too secured and government can't track this. For those reasons, some government ban Bitcoin.

Some governments are banning bitcoin because they are scared when it goes mainstream it might affect their currencies, though some are also worried that it might be a way of moving illegal funds or funding terrorism since funds cannot be traced. They have different concerns but I think with regulations bitcoin and other altcoins should be allowed.

The government of every country thinks they will lose huge revenue if they support the Bitcoin. Moreover, there is no control over Bitcoin because of which terrorist activity may increase. I think. Both of these reasons are the most effective.

China often something prohibited in relation to cryptocurrencies. This does not mean that the state intends to act seriously. Most often it is just the work of the media.

I think the government is worried about Bitcoin, because if cryptocurrency is widely adopted, then the entire banking system can become irrelevant, bitcoin can also be a virtual crime, because its untraceable financial transactions facilitate crimes such as Drugs, Money Laundering, Terrorism, and other illegal activities.

They do have the basis to worried about it because according to the reports from banks and bankers. Bitcoin is represented for a freedom financial which mean the price is totally controlled by the market and noone can do anything about it, the system is totally controlled by a blockchain which mean there will be no cheats, no corruptions.

The bitcoin transaction is very secret and secure. The government is unable to monitor and control it. Some governments prohibit it because it can easily assist the transaction of crime network.

Such prohibitions (let's say a similar story with telegrams) only actively develop the sphere of personal security on the Internet, as programmers are finding more and more ways to bypass these locks. The blockchain system can not be banned in principle in the light of its decentralization, but official enterprises will be very difficult to accept payments if the ban does come into force. It is sad, but I hope humanity will still go in the direction of personal freedoms.

good question. I want to answer your question. in my opinion, why some government banned Cryptocurrency? because cryptocurrency dont have organisation or something who handle full of cryptocurrency, so maybe the government scare if group of teroris use cryptocurrency for the fund.
