Title: 2Card Setup freezes after random time
Post by: qiuness on July 02, 2013, 04:48:00 PM
Hello guys...

Maybe you encountered this before.
I have a PC with 2 7950's running stock.. that means i did absolutely nothing to them from a tweaking perspective.

The problem is.. they freeze the PC.

I use them with 2 16x-16x risers. So far i tried

1. exchanging the risers... no help
2. reinstalled windows... no help
3. exchanged cards between them... no help

I`m running 12.8 Drivers with CGMiner 2.11.4
Temp is max 80C

What i can still try is:
-> Latest drivers...and maybe i don't know.. use a 3rd card as a primary card..i`m out of ideas.

80° is so much, try to use a additional cooler; try to get about 70-72°. Overheat is a reason.

What PSU are you using?  I had this problem when running 2 cards at a higher intensity than 14 with an old 630W PSU.  Swapped out to a 850W and all is fine.

Been trying to blow up an old 5850, and it runs between 85-95ēC all the time.  Been fine going 24/7 for the past few weeks, so I really doubt overheating is the issue.

Thank you for posting this in the correct forum. Cause this is the 'Hardware' sub-forum right?

@Damnsammit, my 5850s go dead if they only go above 72°, however PSU can easily work with five 5850s. I dont know where are your 5850s from :))

Really?  Mine gets sick after it gets above ~92, but then I just have CGWatcher restart it and it works fine.  I know that thing is about to crap out, so I am not too concerned with it.  Got it in like 2010 so it's had a good run lol

Just focusing on making sure the 6950 stays healthy.

My PSU was a 630 Antec from a long time ago and it would crash with the two cards.  I think it was something to do with current, but I don't know.  I used it as an excuse to get a 850W for $60 on CL lol

i've got an antec 1200W and this is the second PSU...
I`ll try to get the temp down, but it's strange that it freezes the PSU

Definitely shouldn't be a lack of power then.

When are they freezing?  After you run cgminer succesfully?

Have you tried them with GUIminer?  Same results?

Solved it apparently by swapping the card with each other and changing the risers
